Lady Boss Please Spoil Your Husband - Chapter 418
Yang Nina woke up after who knows how long. Her eyes slowly peeled open and surveyed her surroundings. It didn’t look like she was unconscious long enough, judging by the dark sky above her. Either that, or it’s been the next day.
But why is she outside? Did they think she died and was promptly disposed of? That doesn’t make sense though. She clearly remembers being together with her seniors.
Oh, no! Was it all a trap after all?! Were her seniors…killed? While she was taken out like trash in some random place?
“You’re awake. Good.”
Someone spoke beside her. The voice was baritone with a cool and guarded tone. It wasn’t unpleasant to hear, per se, but it gave her an impression of a disciplinary disciple in the Academy that was tasked with overseeing the punishment of unruly disciples. Yang Nina slowly turned her head at its direction.
“Don’t panic, all of you are safe.” Gabriel said, who was sitting down beside Yang Nina by the grass.
They found an empty playground and made it their temporary sanctum to rid themselves of any evidence that would warrant suspicions of tonight’s excursion. Conveniently, there was a public restroom in it.
Although it was a bit filthy, the important thing is that there was clean running water.
It’s already pass twelve midnight and the neighborhood was quiet. The streets were empty and people had retired inside their homes. So there was no one there but them.
Gabriel and Li Yifei were tasked to guard their wards while Lillie and Ethan took their turn to freshen up.
Li Yifei removed her attention from the game she was playing in her phone when she heard Gabriel speaking with their youngest ward. She stood up from her place next to the senior disciples before flopping ungracefully beside her boyfriend.
“We stopped by an empty playground to clean your wounds, but those still need a professional’s touch. Your seniors couldn’t handle the strain and collapsed after a while. We could’ve just dropped you in the hospital but brother-in-law said that it would draw unwanted attention. We don’t know where you guys are staying, so we brought you here for the meantime until you guys wake up.” Li Yifei filled the gaps in her memory.
“I…” Yang Nina tried to sit up but winced. She instinctively put a hand over where her puncture wound was and felt a gauze over it.
“This child, ah,” Li Yifei sighed in mild exasperation as she supported her back to help her sit up. “Don’t move too much. Brother-in-law would be terribly upset if you reopen your wound. Trust me, you don’t want him upset.”
Gabriel helpfully nodded in agreement. He and Yifei already have more than one strike for their antics. They’re treading on thin ice. Who knows how many more it’ll need before Lillie’s leniency on them runs out.
“Here,” Gabriel offered Yang Nina a bottled water. “I’m sure your throat’s dry as the Sahara right now. Don’t worry, it isn’t poisoned.”
Yang Nina took it gratefully after a bit of hesitation. Her throat felt raw, like it’s been rubbed with sandpaper. So when the cool water washed over her parched pipe, the sensation was heavenly.
She screwed the bottled water’s cap back and stared absentmindedly at the bottle’s sticker.
They made it out. They’re alive. These people didn’t kill them.
Yang Nina let out a shaky exhale that released a lot of the internal tension. She felt better after that and it was easy to breathe again. She was thanking every deity she knew before facing her benefactors.
“This one is incredibly grateful for saving me and my seniors. I’m afraid I have nothing of worth with me to pay you back, but please tell me what you desire. As long as it’s reasonable, I’ll return what I owe within the best of my ability.”
“No need, no need. The two of us were only following brother-in-law.”
“I’m afraid I must insist. Our Academy fervently advocates reciprocating other’s good deeds granted towards us by tenfold.” Yang Nina stubbornly said.
“Well, if you feel the need to repay someone, that would be my brother-in-law. But I have a strong feeling that he shares my thoughts about this “repaying one’s good deed” thing your Academy has going on.”
“Exactly as she said.”
Heads turned at the voice that suddenly chimed in. Lillie had returned with Ethan, both are now clean and wearing fresh set of clothes while their disguises remained intact.
Li Yifei lifted an eyebrow as she scrutinized her sister-in-law’s glossy, languid eyes. Then at her brother whose mood seemed to have elevated. And was that cut on his lips there before? It’s still bleeding a little and barely noticeable.
But for someone who has an eye for details, Li Yifei could tell it’s fresh.
Everything clicked in her mind, and Li Yifei contained the urge to whack her brother in the head with a stick. She doesn’t dare try it on her sister-in-law.
This shameless couple, ah.
Lillie cleared her throat, noticing Li Yifei’s realization and pointedly ignored the scandalized looks she’s sending her and Ethan.
Cut us some slack, A’Fei. What happened is not what you think it is. We’re not animals, nothing extreme happens.
“Seeing that you’re awake, your seniors will wake up soon. In the meantime, we couldn’t afford to leave you alone so we’ll stay until then.” She said, sitting down with them on the grass.
“Gracious benefactors, this one offers her utmost gratitude for saving our lives.” Yang Nina would’ve kowtowed but decided to dip head down and hold her hands before her in a salute instead.
Lillie nodded. “If you’re insistent in wanting to repay us, then I’ll take your sincere gratitude as payment. Consider yourself and your seniors free of debt.”
Yang Nina gaped in disbelief. “Bu…but that can’t be! It isn’t enough in exchange for what you did for us!”
“It can, and it is. You asked what I wanted, and have received it.”
“Leave it, A’Nina. He got what he said he wanted. Leave it at that.” Han Taiyi finally woke up. She groaned, her muscles protesting as she forced herself to sit up. This feeling is nothing compared to the intense training she and Chu Lizheng undergo in Gentle Tempest Courtyard.
“It doesn’t feel right, Yi-jie.” Yang Nina mumbled.
“Oh, you sweet child.” Han Taiyi sighed. She wants to squeeze the young girl tightly in her arms but decides against it since she was injured.
After Han Taiyi woke up, it wasn’t long before Chu Lizheng was rattled awake by the noise. Gabriel passed them each a bottled water.
The Heaven students drank after being coaxed that it wasn’t poisoned, plus the fact that Yang Nina already emptied the one given to her and nothing strange happened.
“Mark your words. If you dare seek us out and claim an unpaid debt, I’ll make you regret it.” Han Taiyi glared fiercely, undaunted in offending them.
“You have my word..” Lillie promised.
