Lady Misfortune: Daddy, I’ll Be A Righteous Villainess! - Chapter 117
If it’s an interview they want, it’s an interview they’ll get.
Regardless of the fact that Belle is close with Weiss and Fallon, the Broadcasting Club isn’t allowed to have any biases. For that reason, the Student Elite Society wins.
They’re able to get an opportunity to resolve the conflict as early as possible – that is, by addressing the issue through a live broadcast that will be played throughout the entire campus. Their main goal is to explain their side of the story, and from there, the students will judge who to trust by themselves.
‘We can’t afford to stay still and do nothing while a whole day slips by…’ Ms. Verosica quietly contemplated while watching the Student Elite Society Executive Board Members prepare for the interview with the Broadcasting Club.
‘I’ve known Mr. Saoirse long enough. Worse, he’s teaming up with Mr. Mireille. They’re definitely up to something. Frankly speaking, I thought they’d already been to the broadcasting team. They’re the type to strike when the iron’s still hot. So, it won’t be a surprise if they bribed them or something. I have to be a step ahead of them and Ms. Mirabella no matter what.’
Little does Ms. Verosica know that Ms. Mirabella is totally not aware of what’s going on. The only ones they’re up against are Weiss and Fallon.
“Excuse me, Ma’am…” Belle called politely, walking over to Ms. Verosica.
“The studio has been set up. Will you join the SES in the interview?”
The school has a control room for the club where productions take place. It is used for recording audio and visual programming that is typically associated with radio, television, and motion pictures. This is also where the studio floor can be found. Here, the group conducts their live broadcasting.
At the moment, Belle is playing the role of some sort of producer.
The student council wants to have a ‘regal’ appearance for the interview, and since this academy is known for its young talents who produce quality contents that are said to be at the same level as those of the professionals, the broadcasting club has no choice but to meet what’s being expected of them.
And so, they’ve rounded up their technical producer, lighting and audio operators, scriptwriters, and even their facilitator for the interview – with most of them complaining that they haven’t eaten their lunch yet.
‘Let’s see if you’ll still consider us biased,’ Belle thought sarcastically.
They promise to be fair and balanced. So, they’ll be fair and balanced.
“Oh, my students are more than capable enough. They don’t need their adviser around to teach them what to do. I trust them, too…” Ms. Verosica bragged.
“I’ll just stay here at the side.”
“Alright, then…” Belle replied resignedly, holding back a sigh.
“We shall give you a seat out here, Ma’am. Do call any of us if you need something. In a minute, we’ll start the broadcast.”
“Make sure that the lighting is perfect. The backdrop could be better, but since everyone’s in a rush, what you set up would just have to do. Also, don’t you have any make-up artists here? My students might need some retouching. They’ve got to look their absolute best.”
“I’m sorry to say we don’t have any of that here. Besides, I think they’re perfect the way they are right now. No need for a retouch or anything.”
Belle suffered a minute-long patronizing from Ms. Verosica.
She failed to count how many times she wanted to roll her eyes. Not only is she shamelessly demanding, but she is also incorrigibly condescending.
‘This is a school interview, Ma’am. Not a shooting for some blockbuster film,’ was what Belle had wanted to say.
But she just kept it in. That whole time, she did.
She was expecting that the Student Elite Society would be at their best behavior as well. But then came a point when Belle began to change her mind. The interview has just merely begun when some of the members started ordering the Broadcasting Club around.
“Hey, light this spot up, will ya’?”
“Your audio kinda sucks.”
“Chairs. Give us more chairs.”
“This room’s as cramped as heck.”
“What’s taking so long? Hurry up.”
In each passing moment, the student council members got more and more brazen with their favors – in fact, they’re not even doing favors no more. By this point, the broadcasting team is getting fed up with their bossy attitude. They know that they’re under a lot of pressure right now, but that’s no excuse to treat them like this.
“Ms. Belle! Do something…!” the technical producer begged Belle secretly after getting scolded by Ms. Verosica for not doing the lighting properly.
“I wasn’t even in charge of that, and yet, I still got yelled at in front of all these people! Where’s police brutality when you need it?!”
It was at that moment that Belle made a decision.
She pulled out her phone from her skirt pocket. Then, she dialed a number.
“Who are you calling?” asked her fellow club member.
“Oh, just some people I know,” she simply answered.
Ten minutes into the interview, Weiss and Fallon arrived.
—
That day, Sarah made it to school early as usual.
It’s a habit she picked up once she realized she had a favorite seat in her first class – dead center, three rows from the front. Her classmates began to filter in as time went on, the shuffling of notebooks and chatting in murmurs filling the room.
For the most part, she tuned them out, focusing on her ritual of organizing and rewriting her notes. It’s something she found surprisingly relaxing.
Every once in a while, however, Sarah ended up following a conversation without realizing it.
Slightly behind her, just by the window, a couple of female students were lamenting their grades on their previous exam on Science. It wasn’t a particularly interesting conversation, but a familiar name caused her ears to perk up.
“It’s hard not to be distracted in study hall when I’m in the same club as Orion. He’s not only an adorable space lover, but he’s also way too attractive for his own good. Plus, our club moderator is an old boring dude, so it makes him even sexier by comparison.”
“Wait, he’s in your club, too?! I thought he only joined the SES this year?!”
“He’s into astronomy, apparently, and he’s so damn gorgeous.”
These people seem to be at it again.
