Lady Misfortune: Daddy, I’ll Be A Righteous Villainess! - Chapter 131
Maximilian pierced a spiteful glare at Cecil’s furious one.
It was his turn to snort at him then. He found what he said quite ironic.
“You wanna hear what they want to say…?” Maximilian scoffed conceitedly, making Cecil flare up even more.
“Sure. It will be my pleasure.”
Then, as if those words had the power to summon, the people in question showed up.
Out of nowhere, Benedict and Penelope had emerged from the mansion’s lounge. Going by the looks of utter dismay and abhorrence on their faces, Maximilian could tell that they heard everything – just as planned. Theo and Viscount had immediately withdrawn, turning away in mortification. Cecil, on the other hand, was in a state of shock for the longest moment.
And as the head of the family muttered his first words, it was dead quiet – as though the world stopped for a fraction of time.
“I can’t believe you still call yourselves as Mireille’s, you bunch of fools.”
—
Back in the present, Maximilian continues to have a recollection.
He then chances a glance in Lady’s direction and sees her grinning at something. The sight quickly pushes back the nasty feeling that’s been brought by that exchange with Cecil, Theo, and Viscount. Replacing it is this warm emotion that Maximilian only ever gets from her.
Never did he imagine that he could be capable of feeling this much. In the past, he used to be so emotionless that not even something as bad as getting beat up by his own siblings would provoke him enough to take action.
He was all but empty back then, and that entire time, he could barely understand himself.
It’s different now, though. He finally has someone to protect, after all.
“Daddy!”
And that someone has just called for his attention.
With a smile that he meant to reserve solely for her, he turns to the side. He is instantly greeted by her bright, beaming face, which always seems to complete his day.
“What is it, Lady?”
“Is it alright if I introduce Daddy to someone?”
That gets his brow quirking a bit. The way she asks is a little fishy.
He briefly contemplates if he should ask who it is, but he eventually decides that he’ll see this someone at once. She grabs a hold of his hand, and he lets her take him into the crowd. He sees that it’s less rowdy than earlier, though it may only be because they all just finished eating. She goes on to lead him all the way to the drawing room, which is considerably far from the party venue.
Getting a strange feeling about this, he starts wondering if he should ask after all.
‘Wait, could it be…?’ popped one suspicion in particular.
‘Is she finally going to introduce that boy as her lover?!’
Maximilian abruptly stops in his tracks. Lady turns to look at him.
“Daddy?” she called while tilting her head in confusion.
“No, you can’t,” he rasped, bemusing her even more.
“Huh? What?”
“You can’t go out with anyone. You’re still too young.”
“I-I’m not sure I get what you mean.”
“You and that Saoirse kid – together. I won’t allow it. Just give it up.”
“Excuse me?! Are you talking about what I think you’re talking about?!”
“Listen, boys can be very, very dangerous, okay? Especially that boy.”
“No, he’s not! Where are you getting all these ideas from, anyway?!
They were about to argue some more when the door of the drawing room opened up out of nowhere. Its creaking sound caught their attention. They found two heads materialize as soon as they whisked their gazes towards it.
“Lady?”
Sarah appears along with Hartigan.
She smiles at both of them, relieved to see that they are doing fine again. It just so happened that she had to lend them this drawing room so that the other guests would not see the state that Sarah was in – according to Hartigan, she accidentally drunk some alcohol. She doesn’t know the full story behind it, but she gathers they’re too busy hiding the evidence to explain the whole thing.
Right now, though, Sarah looks better, much to Lady’s delight.
“Are you guys okay now?” she asked with an amused smile.
“Yes. Thankfully, nothing happened,” she answered, blushing in embarrassment.
“Not feeling dizzy anymore?”
“It’s all good. I may have just eaten too much as well. It’s the food.”
Maximilian is stumped at the moment.
He has no idea what they are murmuring about. But at least his initial belief is proven wrong.
“By the way…” Lady continued, pulling Maximilian in front of Sarah.
“You still haven’t officially met my father, right? I mean, you did see each other back in seventh grade, but that was different.”
Now, he gets it.
Lady must have taken him there to introduce the newest addition to her list of friends. She did this with Hartigan and Belle in the past. He recognizes the one this time as Sarah whom she likes to tell him about every once in a while.
“G-Good evening, Sir…” she greeted nervously, somewhat overwhelmed.
“My name is Sarah. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I am Lady’s friend.”
Maximilian quietly regards Sarah.
—
This is the last time, Lady vows.
After officially introducing the two of them to each other, she promises not to force the plot to go the way she wants it to again. She is giving the story one final shot, and if nothing of importance still happens, she is going to relent. There will be no more pretenses, and there will be no more meddling. Whether everything falls in place or not, she will just go with the flow starting from this day forward.
“It’s nice meeting you, Sarah…” was what Maximilian said in response to Sarah’s greeting.
“Do take care of Lady for me.”
It went as simple as that, and just as Lady expected, nothing else occurred.
They had talked for a little bit. Once they’re finished, they went their own ways.
Maximilian has gone back to the party to entertain the guests while Lady decided to stay with Sarah and Hartigan for a while longer.
