Laia & The Transferee - Chapter 48
IT WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT to say that everyone was beyond excited to see who Aiden would sit next to the moment he finished answering some of the questions his new classmates asked him, the question being most asked is whether he had a girlfriend or not.
“I don’t have one,” He sheepishly grins. “I think it’s because of how I often dye my hair, maybe they think I’m a “bad” boy?”
“You can definitely be my bad boy!” Vivi yells from her seat, making most of their classmates laugh at her remark.
Well everyone except for Laia who looks away and tried to distract herself by pulling out one of her textbooks and reading it. The girl almost jumped in surprise the moment Aiden sat next to her, confusing everyone else who thought that he would sit next to them.
“Hi again,” Aiden smiles at the girl seated on his left.
Laia looks away but was able to mumble. “Hi,”
“Hi!” Brie was ecstatic and offered her hand to the boy who reached for it and shook it gently. “I’m Brie,”
“I would introduce myself but you already saw my embarrassing introduction–”
“It definitely wasn’t embarrassing at all,” Brie smiles reassuringly. “You did great!”
She even showed him a thumbs up which made Aiden run his fingers through his hair almost shyly.
“I’ll believe you then,” The boy still looked unconvinced and Laia wanted to reassure him but couldn’t utter a single word.
It doesn’t really help either how most of her classmates were still ogling the boy without any shame at all, watching his every move and probably still wondering why he decided to sit next to Laia out of all people.
I mean, he could’ve sat next to Vivi, Laia thinks as she rested her chin on her hand.
After closing the textbook that she was (attempting) reading, the girl sighs before she tried to focus on what their adviser was currently talking about instead of listening to bits of the conversation between Brie and Aiden.
However, that plan didn’t work and Laia ended up being distracted by the continuous flow of the conversation currently happening on both her sides.
She abruptly turned to Brie who immediately stopped talking. “Should we switch seats? So you can talk to Aiden clearly and without anyone in between of you too?”
Brie’s eyes widened and Laia even saw guilt on her brown eyes. “You don’t have to–”
“Laia–”
“It’s fine,” Laia stood up from her seat and beckoned Brie to stand up as well so they could swap seats immediately before their adviser could notice. “Stand up already,”
Laia knew that she sounded rude but she just had to get out of the situation quickly and distract herself from the ugly pit of despair that she was starting to feel inside her chest.
Her friend reluctantly stood up from her seat and swapped seats with Laia who sat down on her seat with more force than she intended.
It didn’t escape her adviser’s attention who turned around to look at Laia who was still trying her best not to whimper at the pain from sitting down too harshly.
“Ms. Lopez? Is everything alright?”
“Yes ma’am,” Laia sheepishly smiles. “I just had to get my ballpen that fell and I sat with more force than necessary,”
Great. She’s never gonna believe that pathetic excuse.
“Just be careful next time,”
Okay, maybe her adviser was more gullible than she thought.
She steals a glance at how anyone might’ve had reacted to her situation and was quick to notice the asshat looking at her way with a raised eyebrow.
Laia raised her eyebrow in return, making the asshat chuckle.
Sometimes Laia honestly thinks that the asshat thinks her face is funny or he just perceives her whole existence as entertainment.
Rolling her eyes, Laia shifted her attention back to the notes that she was writing, especially with how their third quarter was technically already ongoing and she needs to keep her current rank steady.
And she definitely won’t let the asshat or anyone else take her spot.
Weirdly enough, the conversation between Brie and Aiden ceased completely and Laia could feel the awkwardness between the two from her spot.
It was certainly weird, especially with how Brie had always been good at making conversations flow almost naturally and sometimes endless. It’s a surprise to see how her conversation with Aiden ended as soon as she sat next to him.
Oh well, Laia certainly couldn’t care less at this point. The only thing she should be paying attention to is to write as many important notes as possible for future study material.
Definitely not an attractive boy who sits just one chair away from her.
After their adviser’s discussion, their adviser left the room almost in a hurry. Most of her classmates even ran after her with concern but Laia opted to stay behind.
Their adviser’s probably been called for a faculty meeting or something so there’s not much need to worry.
Or maybe Laia’s just being mean and indifferent.
Shaking her head, Laia stood up from her seat and made her way to the board to start erasing what their adviser wrote earlier that she already had written in her notebook.
Did she bother to ask if anyone was still writing it?
She did not.
Does she care if anyone would get mad at her for erasing the content that would definitely help them soon, especially for future quizzes or even on their quarterly exam?
She certainly does not.
Unfortunately, Andrei just had to care.
“Why’d you erase everything? Someone could’ve still been writing!”
Are you writing though?
Laia rolls her eyes. “Did you hear anyone else complain?”
“That doesn’t mean you could just erase everything without asking!”
Looks like the asshole with the inferiority complex just had to be annoying when Laia’s mood was straight-up bad.
“I said, did you hear anyone else complain?”
“But–”
“I said, did you hear anyone else complain?!”
The increased volume of Laia’s voice surprised and silenced Andrei quickly.
Most of the girl’s classmates turned towards her way as well with surprise on their faces. They obviously weren’t expecting Laia to raise her voice, especially when they were so used to Laia staying silent when Andrei taunted her except during debates.
Only during debates would Laia have this sort of switch that enables her to speak her mind completely without thinking of the consequences.
She would also win against anyone every time, so none of her groupmates would really complain.
“What?” Laia asked no one in particular when everyone’s stares remained on her.
Everyone looked away after that and Laia didn’t receive a single response from any of them.
Except for the asshat who somehow made his way towards her with a grin on his face.
“What now?” Laia scowled at him after she erased the last of what their teacher wrote on the board.
“You’re slowly losing the mask,” The asshat says matter-of-factly, almost as if he was reading from a script. “Do you realize it?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,”
“Do you not know or are you pretending not to know?”
Asshat leaned at the board, effectively making chalk dust fall on his uniform, particularly on his shoulders. “Hmmm?”
Laia glares at the chalk dust that settled on the asshat’s shoulders and glared at the asshat who was still wearing his shit-eating grin. “You are annoying,”
“Annoyingly handsome?”
“Annoyingly annoying,” Laia pushes through him and places the board eraser at the corner of the board, where the chalks are. “Don’t move for a bit,”
The asshat had a funny expression on his face, a mixture of suspicion and surprise. “Don’t move what–”
Laia quickly brushes the chalk dust off the boy’s shoulders.
Asshat stole a glance at his shoulders and smiled. “I didn’t realize I leaned on where there was still chalk dust,”
“No shit,” Laia replies sarcastically after dusting her hands off. “You’re welcome,”
“I didn’t know you were capable of helping others when it doesn’t involve grades,” He continued teasing the girl who was starting to regret helping the asshat.
“I’m actually a very nice person–”
“Debatable,”
“If this was a debate you would’ve had already lost,” Laia grits her teeth.
“Hmm?” The asshat suddenly leaned forward towards her, making Laia step back. “Are you sure?”
“What is she sure of?”
The two immediately backed away from one another and turned to Brie who was smiling at what she was seeing.
“What was she sure of?” She repeats her question.
“Yeah,” Vivi suddenly appears from behind Brie, accompanied by Shane and Jake who were in a middle of a conversation. “What’s with the tension between you two that could be sexual–”
“Definitely not sexual,” Laia’s face scrunches with displeasure as she looked at the asshat who was laughing.
“I’d rather choke on my salad,” She continues when Vivi and the rest still had teasing grins on their faces.
“You don’t like salad, though?” Brie asks almost innocently but Laia was quick to figure out her intention.
The intention was to debunk what Laia was trying to say.
“You are all annoying,” Laia rolls her eyes and then turns to Brie who was not-so-subtly stealing glances at Jake. “Jake?”
Jake looked away from Shane who stopped talking as well. “Yeah?”
Laia grins at Brie whose eyes widened. “How was the arcade yesterday?”
“Arcade?”
Look at this boy acting like he didn’t have the time of his life spending all his time with Vivi and Shane instead of taking the opportunity to talk things through with Brie.
“You should try taking memory enhancing pills, Jakey,” The asshat says in a mocking manner. “Maybe I could recommend you to my cousin?”
“Why would you recommend him to your cousin?” Shane asks, genuinely confused.
“His cousin’s a doctor,” Brie replies for the asshat who chuckles at how Shane didn’t understand immediately what she meant. “Right?”
The asshat nods. “Yeah,”
Jake grins at the asshat. “Are you sure she’ll let you in, though?”
“Why?” Vivi asks.
Jake didn’t miss the opportunity to pinch her cheek and Laia noticed Brie flinch. “They might or might not have had a fight due to Sawyer–”
“No unnecessary details, please,” The asshat glared at Jake for a split-second and retains his smile that was too fake for Laia’s taste. “Anyway, is our next teacher not arriving?”
“Good morning, class!” Sir Mathias suddenly enters the classroom.
Everyone laughed at the asshat before returning to their seats.
