- Chapter 459: The Final Seconds
POV Random Visitor:
“What the hell is wrong with this world?!” A youngster watching the sky full of explosions couldn’t help but step back. He thought he saw horrors and forces beyond his comprehension, but what he saw now was so far away he couldn’t keep his cool.
Dragons, angels, reapers, and demons clashed far on the horizon. They weren’t some random mobs—they were creatures of myths.
‘This is screwed up.’ He shuddered, feeling like even the smallest and dimmest lances of the weakest angels were so fast and damaging they would annihilate him before he could even blink.
Especially the two impossible huge dragons made him shudder and question his life choices.
He thought this world was his chance, and its discovery would change his life. Instead, he faced the cruel truth.
‘My world is just some low-ranked shithole.’
The worst was this entire battle wasn’t anything but a sport. Thousands of humanoids stood everywhere he could see, cheering and shouting at the battle as if they were watching just a sports match.
“Go! Shot him down!”
“Watch out, a demon is coming!”
Suddenly a shockwave sent him flying, the winds whistling around his ears. Abrupt panic flooded his mind, ‘What the hell?’
Even more, cheers resounded, all onlookers celebrating the deaths of their fellow fans while he hit the ground.
“Haha, PoopyPants clan got exploded!”
‘No, this world isn’t just stupidly high tier. Also, its population is fucked up in their heads.’
With renewed vigor, the youngster stood up and patted off the ash covering his cloak. Without hesitation, he turned back and walked away, the cheers getting quieter and quieter.
He was no longer sad—his world was cruel, with dungeons opening everywhere and monsters pouring out, but compared to this world, it was heaven.
“Look! Are those nukes!”
“Oww, Satan is here!”
“Kinda let down, I expected mountains to come to live like the last time, and join the battle.”
The heat washed over his back, the dust clouds rolling past him.
He didn’t even want to look back to preserve his sanity that was already slipping away into the bottomless abyssal chasm to never climb up again.
‘Yeah, I will return back to my world and hide the hole to protect the white light beam was faster.
He closed his eyes and redirected all his mana into his defenses as everyone. This world is too inhospitable.’
POV Vesuvius:
The black, purple, and red beam vanished into the portal and ascended at the angels straight from under their feet, bypassing the barrier enveloping their formation.
Vesuvius had not time to observe the damage he dealt, the magic arrays for the teleportation spell already forming around him. It would take him only a fraction of a second to teleport to safety, but the white light beam was faster.
He closed his eyes and redirected all his mana into his defenses as he waited for the concentrated attack of multiple high-ranked angels and countless lesser ones.
‘Now is the time for me to take the hit.’ He already counted on it when he made his move, but he didn’t care. He was a tank and invested more than enough into his defenses for such situations.
With a blinding explosion of energy, the stream of light smashed through the already crumbling barrier and burned through the seas of chaotic elements around him.
More and more of the magic symbols lit up while Vesuvius fully focused on his spell and counted time to the teleport in his mind.
‘0.5’
The energy hit straight against his armored chest, head, and even wings, everything submerged in the light like a fish in water.
‘0.4’
Pain submerged every nerve of his body, but he ignored it, focusing on finishing his teleportation spell while cracks formed in all the crystals on his wings, horns, and armor.
‘0.3’ His wings shattered, and his armor dissolved, washed away by the stream of light—the pain growing even stronger.
The last of the glowing magic circuits formed, and mana surged into them, letting them up while the dragon’s scales warped and shone with energy, both repairing and damaging them simultaneously.
‘0.2’ Vesuvius counted as the first layer of his scales was seared and cracked, his mana and lifeforce flowing into his scales to reinforce them.
‘0.1’ The last magic symbol fully lit up, and the space warped around the dragon.
The next moment, the pain vanished, and the dragon opened his seared eyelids. The unending swarms of nanites spun around him, devouring the soil and even the air around him, while as his scales and armor slowly knitted back, the cracks in his horns and claws closed, and his wings sprouted anew like grass after a winter.
‘If I still had my reserves of divine energy I could have deflected this attack without even bathing my eye.’ Even with the injuries littering his body, Vesuvius felt only pride and joy as he singlehandedly deflected the attack of multiple high-ranked angels.
“What?!”
Something gleamed high in the atmosphere, the dragon’s eyes locking onto it.
Dozens of small metallic objects were descending down, burning in the atmosphere.
‘Are those warheads?! Also, there are so many of them…’ He immediately identified the objects, his mind filled with anger and even a slight fear—he had to think about his allies with weaker bodies and without affinities shielding them, which would likely disintegrate into atoms.
The nukes were quickly closing on, turning into small fiery meteors as they descended down. <subtxt>.</subtxt>
The dragon’s mind quickly moved, calculating and analyzing possible solutions. Then, at last, his eyes flashed as he found one.
Everyone on the battlefield stopped, their focus fully drawn by the incoming bombs. Even though they lacked knowledge of it, they were all beings with superior instincts and senses, making them feel the threat of them.
The dragon’s domain quickly expanded upwards, and to his surprise, there was no resistance, even the angels letting him freely move.
At once all the bombs stopped and floated mid-air as if they froze in time, the horns crowning his head brightly shining.
‘They are still a metal and metal is my domain.’
Then a voice so dark and threatening resounded that all the angelic light flickered like candles in a storm, “So how does it feel to know that those you were ready to die protecting, decided to kill you themself? Isn’t it betrayal?”
Even Vesuvius himself froze as the strongest demonic and draconic aura he ever felt submerged the entire battlefield. His heart skipped a beat at the sudden wave of oppressive aura.
He already knew who had appeared.
