Learning To Love Again - Chapter 127 The Penalty
“That slut!”
Su Mo Chou throws a vase across her bedroom and it shatters against the wall.
“She slept with the director. I just know she did. How can a girl with no background or influence get the role that I, the first daughter of the Su family couldn’t get?”
“Miss, why didn’t you take the other role?” Yang LiMei asks while massaging her temples.
Su Mo Chou sauntered into the audition hall without reading the script. She didn’t know any of the lines and ended up embarrassing herself in front of the director and judges.
Luckily for her, the auditions were private so no one else saw her make a fool of herself.
The director wanted to give Su Mo Chou some face because she is the daughter of a somewhat influential family and there have been a few rumors going around saying that Li Shaofeng, the young master of the Li family has remained single because he fell in love with the daughter of the Su Feng at first sight.
The Li family is a well-known giant in the entertainment industry. Only the well informed people in the upper society know about the young master’s ‘love sickness’. He only managed to hear it by chance.
Even if it was just a rumor, it is better to be safe than sorry. So as not to offend the potential Mrs. Li, he tried to appease her by offering her a small role in the movie.
In his mind, this is already very generous considering the fact that Su Mo Chou has no experience whatsoever in acting. Her portfolio is empty so having a role in this high-profile movie will be a good jump start to her career.
The movie is a palace drama. The young daughter of the Prime Minister is made Empress but her heart belongs to another. After many twist and turns, she finally ends up falling in love with the emperor and he with her. He dissolves the harem and they live happily.
Although the Emperor and Empress are the male and female leads, there are still several other characters.
He wanted Su Mo Chou to play the role of the palace maid who earned the emperor’s graces and became a concubine.
Although she won’t be an important character, she will still have a few substantial lines and a decent amount of screen time.
But who knew that this idiot wouldn’t accept the role.
Instead of showing gratitude, she blew up in the director’s face and started insulting the actress who was cast as the female lead and everyone involved in the movie production.
The director kicked her out.
She caused such a ruckus that If not for Yang Mei who profusely apologized to everyone and gave the excuse that Su Mo Chou was not feeling well, she would have been permanently blacklisted.
Hearing Yang LiMei’s question, Su Mo Chou turns to glare at her. “What do you mean, why didn’t I take the other role? Who does that bastard director think I am? I’m the real deal. How can I act as a maid? Are you stupid?”
Yang LiMei takes a deep breath and tries to suppress her rage over being insulted. “Miss, maybe if you get some experience it will become a lot easier for you to get big roles. I think you should start small and then you’ll eventually become a sensation. These things take time.”
“Useless!” Su Mo Chou blares.
“Are you trying to tell me what to do? I no longer have a need for you. I don’t want a brainless fool working as my assistant. You’re fired.”
Yang LiMei almost jumps in joy. ‘She can finally leave this crazy person and find a real actress.’
She hides her smile and puts on a pitiful expression. “Miss, you can’t fire me. I signed a three-year contract but I’ve only worked under you for six months. If you want to dismiss me, then you’ll have to pay the penalty.”
Yang LiMei doesn’t really want the money. After working here for so long she knows that this stingy Su family won’t pay her anything especially since Su Mo Chou hasn’t had any success in her career.
What she really wants is to get rid of the contract completely so she can be free.
She knows that by saying this, she is challenging Su Mo Chou. What she hates most is someone challenging her authority or identity. It brings back memories of when she first moved into the Su family.
Everyone had called her mother a homewrecker and even though people didn’t insult her because she was just an ‘innocent child’, they didn’t want to acknowledge her either.
She was born two years before Su Lian, but she was the bastard?
Su Lian took the life that was meant to be hers away from her.
Just as Yang LiMei expected, Su Mo Chou exploded after hearing her words. “Who says I can’t fire you! Give me the contract and this young miss will tear it right in front of you.”
Yang LiMei covers her delight. She had wanted to quit a long time ago the penalty kept her in place. She can’t afford such a large amount of money.
It’s more than her yearly salary.
She manages to maintain an aggrieved expression. This further boosts Su Mo Chou’s arrogance.
She loves the feeling of having people at her mercy.
The feeling of dominance.
She knows that once she marries into the Li family, she’ll have even more of this.
Before Yang LiMei can go get the contract, Qin Rong walks in.
“Chou’er how was the audition? Did you get that part?” She looks at her daughter affectionately.
“No, I didn’t.” Su Mo Chou says in rage and points a finger at LiMei. “I want you to cancel this b*tch’s contract and fire her for me.”
Qin Rong frowns hearing her daughter’s words. She knows that Yang LiMei tries very hard with her job. She studied entertainment in University and if not for the fact that she doesn’t have talent, she would be an actress not an assistant to one.
She is also aware that if they fire her, it will be very hard to trick someone else who is as competent as her into becoming Su Mo Chou’s next assistant.
