Learning To Love Again - Chapter 131 Just This Once
Su Lian lies on her couch and stares at the silver necklace in her hands.
The initials TX and SL are engraved at the back.
She can’t help but think about her mom and how she died so suddenly leaving her and her brother alone.
It happened such a long time ago, but it still remains crystal clear in Su Lian’s mind.
Her mother had moved out of her home and into an apartment a year after she found out about Su Mo Chou’s existence. She wanted to divorce Su Feng, but he kept on delaying it by making excuses.
In reality, he was stalling until she had a change of heart.
Not because he loved her, but because he loved money.
If he divorced her, he would suffer a huge loss.
He would have to get into a custody battle and pay child support on Lian and Qiong. Just the thought of that much money leaving his hands made his heartache, but that wasn’t even the main issue.
Tang Xiu was the largest shareholder after him. She owned 31% of the company’s shares, he owned 51% and the rest were owned by different investors. She had bought them shortly after they got married, when his company wasn’t worth that much.
Although Tang Xiu’s father wasn’t extremely wealthy, he had made a good amount of money in America so she and her sister lived a comfortable life.
Before he died, he split half his wealth among his two daughters. She had used her own share to invest in her husband’s company and it proved to be successful.
Previously, Su Feng had been collecting both his and Tang Xiu’s dividend. She didn’t care much about separating funds because they were married, but after she found out about his affair and illegitimate child, she cut him off.
She didn’t stop there, she wanted full custody of both Su Lian and Su Qiong and got one of the best lawyers in town.
When it could no longer be delayed, they filed for divorce and because of his infidelity, Su Feng’s future was looking quite bleak.
But before the divorce could progress any further, Tang Xiu died in a car accident.
Her car collided with a diesel truck and exploded. Both she and the truck driver died on the spot.
Not even their bodies were found. They buried a coffin with some of Tang Xiu’s most treasured things just to honour her memory.
Qin Rong moved in after that and then everything went to sh*t.
Su Lian thought deeply about everything and felt that it seemed too convenient.
When it all happened her mind was blank, she was muddleheaded and filled with grief. But now, she realizes that her mother’s death might not have been an accident.
She needs some closure.
She has to investigate everything thoroughly, but it happened so long. Will she be able to find anything substantial?
Su Lian was so lost in her thoughts, she didn’t notice when Han Yuan walked in carrying Yichen. He had stolen her spare key the day before so now he has easy access to her home.
He was about to announce his arrival but stopped when he saw her defeated figure.
She was staring blankly at the ceiling and seemed extremely depressed.
He just stands there watching her until a maid walks in and takes notice of him.
“Good evening sir, is the young master asleep?”
Su Lian looked at the maid and followed her line of sight to Han Yuan standing at the door carrying her son.
“Yes, he is.” He replies and the maid takes Su Yichen upstairs with her.
“Why were you just standing there?” Su Lian sits down properly and looks at him warily.
“I didn’t want to
“I shouldn’t have left the Su family just like that.”
Han Yuan raises a brow. “You miss your father?”
He knows all about how she cut ties with her family at her grandfather’s birthday.
“No,” she refutes immediately. “No, I let my mother down.”
Thinking about how hard her mother had been fighting for her and her brother, tears stream down her face. She had put so much in that household and she just let Qin Rong and her daughter have everything.
“Do you want me to handle it for you?” Han Yuan asks stroking her head.
He can’t bear to see her crying.
Not again.
Su Lian looks up at him. His eyes are very sincere and she gets lost in them for a while.
Without thinking, she buries her head in his chest.
He gets taken aback at first but doesn’t push her away. He wraps his arms around her and holds her closer allowing her tears to soak his shirt.
She feels so safe and secure in his embrace. It feels nice to have someone to rely on. She hasn’t felt this way in a while.
‘Just for tonight.’ She thinks to herself.
He cheated on her and broke her heart but just this once, she wants to feel warmth again.
