Legacy of the Dark Sage - Chapter 924: All Hell Break Loose (20)
Kyran watched as bits and pieces of space around him crumbled. But it was not particularly destroying the very scene before him. Instead, it seemed to be experiencing a sort of ecdysis, where it shed its outer skin to replace it with a new one.
As this happened, Kyran caught a slight magic fluctuation coming from a few meters behind.
In an instant, Kyran vanished and appeared right where the fluctuation as purple discs flashed out from his hands. The space before him crackled and distorted, revealing a silhouette of a man.
Before one of the purple discs could slice through the distortion, the silhouette awkwardly swiveled to the side, avoiding the disc by half a centimeter.
“Guah!”
Unfortunately, the man did not see the second disc Kyran had thrown, which arrived precisely in the direction he escaped and pierced his body. Luckily, he managed to protect his heart, preventing the disc from landing a possible one-hit kill.
But the man soon realized that the wound he received failed to show signs of healing even when he tried rousing his magic energy to boost his natural healing ability. It was not bleeding, which was good. But it was only not healing. What kind of attack did Kyran release just now? While the man received a backlash after his Domain was forcefully canceled, that should not have affected his ability to rouse his healing ability!
The man was none other than Obstruction, and right after his Domain was destroyed, it rebounded onto him, which lowered his concealment. He actually planned to sneak attack Kyran the moment he saw the latter standing there motionless. He did not expect Kyran to be motionless because he wanted to destroy his domain!
Kyran did not stop with that one move. Knowing it would take one hit to kill Obstruction, he already took out his black swords and attacked.
Obstruction had not even regained his bearing when he caught sight of Kyran at the corner of his eyes, about to strike him with his swords. Instinctively, he used his magic to teleport away and dodge the blades of the swords.
But.
“Guah!”
The two swords cleaved right before Obstruction’s robes, resulting in two ugly cuts that resembled a huge X. Similar to the disc that pierced through his body, these cuts did not make him bleed, but there was a crackling and sizzling sound coming from the wounds, which seemed to be the cause why they were not healing.
But the wounds were only ones of Obstruction’s concerns. What he was more concerned about was how Kyran managed to cut him when he was already midway through a teleportation.
Kyran’s eyes flashed as he shifted his hold on his swords from a normal grip to a back grip before hacking upward at Obstruction’s torso again.
Rumble! Rumble!
Several thick vines shot out from the floor, blocking kyran’s swords in time, allowing Obstruction to step back and perform a teleportation once more.
Kyran’s expression remained indifferent as his swords cut the thick vines instead of Obstruction. As his cutting motion got to its highest point, he shifted his hold once more, returning his grip to a normal one before turning his body to hack at the rest of the vines that continued to grow on the floor, trying to imprison him.
“Retreat!”
Kyran heard Flos’s voice speak from somewhere as he sensed a powerful magic energy fluctuation coming out from Obstruction. Apparently, the latter was planning to escape with Flos by performing a long-range teleportation.
Kyran’s reddish-purple eyes flashed as a semi-translucent purple sphere expanded outward from within his body. As soon as the semi-translucent sphere touched the vines, they disintegrated into the air.
After which, Kyran warped directly to where Obstruction was preparing the long-range teleportation spell.
Flos, who remained hidden, willed his vines to go after Kyran. However, he soon realized that none of his vines could regrow their bodies.
This was, of course, Kyran’s intention when he summoned the sphere first before warping toward Obstruction. Because he knew Flos would use the already summoned vines to go after him instead of summoning a whole new batch.
As to how Kyran predicted it, it was quite simple.
Flos had been fighting for a while now, exhausting quite a lot of his magic reserves. If he wanted them to retreat to safety, he would definitely want to reserve his remaining magic energy to perform an emergency spell. After all, they were dealing with Kyran at the moment.
Unfortunately, Flos’s decision caused them more than if he summoned a new batch of vines. Then again, if he summoned those new vines, they would not be able to stop Kyran from coming after Obstruction.
Obstruction gritted his teeth as he took out what appeared to be a golden furnace. It was only palm-sized when he took it out, but the next moment, its size grew a hundred-fold, blocking Kyran’s path.
Seeing the furnace, Kyran guessed it was a valuable relic. However, it was not meant to defend, but because Obstruction had little options left, he could only use it as such.
It was such a waste of a relic to be used as a shield.
Kyran retracted one of his swords as he reached out toward the golden furnace. He sensed how valuable the relic was, especially when it already possessed half a sentient. Thus, instead of destroying it, he decided to take it!
Since you don’t want it, then I’ll gladly take it for myself.
Was what flashed through Kyran’s mind at that moment. With a wave of his hand, a fissure appeared in the distance, separating him and the furnace. The fissure expanded to just about the size of the furnace, which was then followed by a powerful suction force that pulled it in.
“You—!”
Obstruction wanted to unsummon the golden furnace but stopped short, knowing doing so would expose him. But if he allowed the fissure to pull in the furnace, he would lose such a valuable relic!
Ultimately, Obstruction could only grit his teeth and allow the furnace to distract Kyran as he teleported once more.
Alas, Obstruction had underestimated Kyran’s insight and control over his magic. The moment he appeared in a new location, the latter was already there, his arms raised, about to cleave his two swords downward.
[No other way, just use the talisman. We’ll just find a way to get it again.]
Obstruction did not need to be told twice; he had already activated the talisman that was still inside his storage pouch.
“Ngh…!”
Obstruction could only endure as Kyran’s swords landed on his shoulders before the talisman could fully activate. Luckily, before Kyran’s swords could cleave deeper, the talisman finally completed its activation and covered Obstruction in a blinding light.
Kyran, with his enhanced sight, was caught off guard by the light and was forced to close his eyes. However, he did not pull out his swords and instead used his other senses to see his surroundings. As he did, he felt his swords falling as their target, Obstruction, seemed to disappear once more.
Realizing this, Kyran immediately observed the surroundings for Obstruction’s magic fluctuation. Soon, he realized he could no longer sense the latter. If Kyran could locate Flos’s hiding place, he would likely discover that he was also gone.
Kyran’s eyes snapped open as he released his magic sense to its full area.
This would be the first time he had done so in Somuli, and it was only possible because the Void theories he unlocked a while ago were still active.
It did not take long for Kyran to find Obstruction. When he did, he also sensed Flos’s familiar aura along with him.
“Who said you can run?”
Kyran did not say those words aloud, but his voice was like thunder that reverberated throughout Armakea.
Flos and Obstruction was shocked. The talisman was a one-time-use magic item that allowed them to teleport at a certain distance. While its use was pretty similar to any teleportation token, the difference was the distance.
Teleportation tokens only allow one to teleport for about ten to fifteen meters at most, with its trajectory following a straight line. On the other hand, the talisman ignores the trajectory restriction in teleportation tokens and also allows one to teleport at a far greater distance. Besides that, it can target more than one person as long as they are within a twenty-meter range of each other.
Because of the talisman’s effect, Flos and Obstruction were shocked when they realized that Kyran was still hot on their heels.
Now, others might be wondering why Kyran was still after them when they already decided to retreat.
The thing was, after Kyran destroyed Obstruction’s domain, he did not release the people he imprisoned. He transferred them to another space.
In any case, Kyran felt that as long as he killed Obstruction, everyone taken to that other space would be released.
For this reason, Kyran was adamant not to let Obstruction go.
Knowing this was the moment where Flos’s remaining magic energy would be best used, he no longer hesitated and summoned one of his powerful creations.
A seed appeared in front of Flos, and as he inserted his remaining magic energy into it, tree roots sprang out from it, coiling and turning until they started to take form.
Soon, it turned into a colossal Treant.
As soon as it appeared in midair, it let out a guttural cry that made anyone who heard it would feel an overwhelming fear filling their hearts.
Kyran appeared a few meters before the Treant. But he did not even stop when he saw it. He simply warped once more as several purple orbs emerged and surrounded the Treant.
The Treant swiped its massive branches at the purple orbs, wanting to destroy them. However, the purple orbs went through its branches, leaving several holes in them.
The Treant let out another cry. However, its cry no longer carried an oppressive might but pain.
Flos and Obstruction left at once, not bothering to check on the Treant. But then the space before them distorted as Kyran’s figure appeared.
Not giving the two the chance to move, Kyran slashed at them at a speed they failed to follow.
Flos and Obstruction’s heads flew upward, their eyes filled in disbelief.
But.
Crackle! Crackle! Sizzle! Sizzle!
“An anomaly has been detected….”
FOOOM!
