Legacy of the Dark Sage - Chapter 941: Unexpected Twist
Kyran exited the independent space with Cyneah. Initially, he wanted to leave her inside, but with Ames constantly glaring at her, he decided it was best to take her along.
True Void and Neo might be there to keep an eye on Cyneah, and she was not a helpless, weak damsel, but Ames was at a whole other level than them. There was no telling what that grumpy woman would do if Kyran were not around. “The border is too far from the Kingdom of Cretea,” Cyneah said as they went outside on foot. She anxiously wondered aloud, “Does that mean he has been en route to the border for some time? But why?”
Kyran was silent, his expression thoughtful.
Not wanting the Sovereign of Bulwark to know his ability to warp, Kyran refrained from warping outside. Besides, he wanted first to observe the renowned Sovereign from a safe distance.
There was also the matter of hiding Cyneah’s identity. While the Sovereign of Bulwark knew what she looked like, he might have brought some of his subjects and had them observe the situation from a distance. If Kyran had warped, those people would definitely presume that his ability to warp was due to the woman beside him. After all, with his appearance that resembled an Imon-spawn, they would think it was impossible for him to possess a border token.
Cyneah’s identity would then be exposed because only a few people could possess the token.
The Abbot, Nahir, Gaden, the border’s messenger, and the Saint.
How did they know? The Sovereign of Bulwark once had his people stationed in the Eidum’s Border. Thus, he was aware of the existence of the border token.
Kyran could pretend to be the border’s messenger by changing his disguise. But apparently, no one in Somuli could pull off a successful transformation because they utilized their innate magic through their Divine Armament. Even the Nobles, who were full-fledged mages, did not know how to perform transformation magic.
If he changed into the border’s messenger, not to mention the others, the Eidums themselves would be frightened.
In this aspect, Kyran realized that the Somulians had the advantage in mage levels, but their Array and Magic Knowledge were passable only. On the other hand, the Humans were far more knowledgeable in different branches of Magic, but their overall level was low.
Humans had a Sovereign, but compared to the Somulians, they did not have an abundance of Legendary.
Several Eidums who guarded the borders gathered outside, just before the steel wall. All of them gazed at the figure of a man in white, with flowing blonde hair and blue eyes, hovering just before the border’s defensive array above.
While they observed the hovering figure, Kyran and Cyneah hid close to the twin doors that led outside.
“This is strange… his light is slightly different, but judging from his silhouette and magic energy, he is the leader of the Nobles, Anshel. Seems like becoming a Sovereign has changed him somehow,” Cyneah told Kyran with a slight frown. Still, she did not want to make a fuss about what she sensed because quite some time had passed since she stood before Anshel and healed him.
Kyran did not respond because, unlike Cyneah, who could only see other people’s lights and their silhouettes, he could see perfectly fine. And looking at the man with a regal aura hovering above, Kyran was sure he had met him before.
“Rather than hiding and observing from afar, why don’t you come out here and look closer?”
Cyneah gasped as soon as she heard Anshel speak. But her reaction was not because she was surprised at being caught, but because he had spoken in the Human language!
Kyran’s brow twitched slightly as he smiled wryly.
“I’ve always been wondering where you’ve gone to, but to actually hide within the Nobles and live a life akin to a king… you are truly something.”
Taking Cyneah’s hand, Kyran led her outside while keeping his eyes on Anshel.
Anshel’s expression changed slightly as he saw Cyneah. There was a hint of uneasiness in his gaze, which he concealed at once. He then focused his attention on Kyran and said with a lighthearted laugh, “Not as good as you, though. I could only fool them because of my uncanny resemblance to the real Anshel. Still, I had to constantly use transformation magic to change the color of my eyes and hair. Unlike you, who wore a mask.”
“I remember appearing before you with this face.”
“Yes, you did. Which is why I recognized you.”
“K-Kyran?” Cyneah called, tugging at Kyran’s hand slightly. She more or less guessed that the Anshel before them was someone from the Human plane. However, she was positive that the Anshel she met back then was a complete being, not human.
Kyran squeezed Cyneah’s hand reassuringly as he whispered, “It’s okay.” He then looked at Anshel once more and said, “Let’s change location.”
“Alright.”
Kyran looked at the other Eidums, who remained silent as they observed the exchange between them. Since they did not understand their conversation, they could only wait for Kyran or Cyneah to give them further instructions.
“There is nothing to worry about,” Kyran told the Eidums. “Stay here while Neah and I talk to our guest.”
The Eidums trusted Kyran. However, knowing who their guest was, they were still feeling a little worried. They all turned to Cyneah, wanting to hear her thoughts. In the end, she only responded with an affirmative nod.
Wanting to solve the matter of Nachum’s ascension as soon as possible, Kyran took Cyneah and Anshel inside the Void World.
Previously, Kyran refrained from taking Cyneah inside the Void World because she did not have a magic core, which meant she could not filter the Void magic energy there. He also did not want Layla, who at that time was using Haylee as her vessel, to track him down using the latter’s connection to her original body, Cyneah.
Even after Cyneah recovered her essence, Kyran was still reluctant to take her to the Void World because of his previous experience with the Macabre Glacier.
However, based on Kyran’s observation yesterday, when Cyneah used the Macabre Glacier to cast a powerful Soul magic, the Shaiha still stirred even when he was not circulating Void magic energy. From this, he more or less guessed that rather than the Macabre Glacier reacting to his Void magic energy, thus affecting the Shaiha, it was the other way around.
It was the Shaiha that reacted to the Macabre Glacier.
Considering this, Kyran believed that as long as the Macabre Glacier remained dormant, the Shaiha would not react even. Thus far, this had already been confirmed since Kyran and Cyneah had been around each other, yet the Shaiha had not reacted.
Kyran took Cyneah and Anshel inside a room that was similar to where Malek was staying. Although the array formation filtering the Void magic energy outside was not as strong, it would not pose any problem since the latter two had magic cores— or, in Cyneah’s case, she had the Macabre Glacier acting as her magic core.
As soon as they appeared, Anshel’s disguise disappeared, revealing the regal appearance of none other than Euan, the Ylfaen Empire’s Emperor.
Kyran gestured for Anshel to take a seat on the couch while he and Cyneah took their seat on the opposite couch.
Euan’s expression remained calm. However, looking at Kyran and Cyneah, there was a strange light that flashed through his eyes. He did conceal it, but Kyran, being his observant self, saw it and said, “Lady Iulia once told me you were considering a marriage between our families, yet you have a very reluctant look in your eyes right now.”
Cyneah almost choked at Kyran’s words as she realized who the person before them was.
This… how to put it. She was not expecting to meet her birth father in this manner! Not to mention, she was not emotionally ready. And what was Kyran even saying in front of her birth father?
Euan shifted in his seat uncomfortably as he cleared his throat, “I have known about your courage and forthright temperament. However, don’t you think there is a right moment to discuss that? Not to mention the correct arrangement of things?”
Kyran shrugged as he removed his mask, “I reckoned bringing that up would break the awkward atmosphere.”
“…”
“…”
The father and daughter were completely speechless because the awkwardness between them was not even apparent.
One could say that both were acting sensible and did not want to let their personal matter influence their meeting.
Not wanting to dwell on the matter, Kyran diverted their discussion.
“How did you end up becoming Anshel?” he asked, looking at Euan curiously.
With Euan’s experience as an Emperor, he was good at adjusting to the situation. Thus, after Kyran directed the conversation, he followed suit and replied as if the latter’s initial remark had not happened.
“It is a long story.”
“Please make it short,” Kyran told him with a deadpan expression.
Cyneah could not help but turn to Kyran with an exasperated look. She initially wanted to rebuke him for making her unexpected reunion with her birth father as if it were a trivial matter, but because he switched topics too fast, she ended up feeling confused and displeased.
Euan shook his head inwardly. If it had been another person talking to him in such a manner, he would have already taken offense. But he could somehow tolerate Kyran’s disrespectful attitude.
“I learned of Anshel’s situation and realized I could take his place. With the help of another person, we succeeded, and thus, I have been posing as him since then.”
“Since when?”
“Half a year after the Saint healed him.”
