Legends Rise - Chapter 17 Stealth Vs Stealth Pt. 2
Li Ming grit his teeth, anticipating the incoming bullet. Just as he had guessed, a pullet pierced through his left shoulder, dropping his health down to 73%. Unfortunately for Li Ming, she had landed a critical hit!
Li Ming grimaced. For the past week, Li Ming had never faced so much resistance in a match. Normally, whenever he closed the gap against a ranged enemy, he would normally be able to prevent the enemy from getting away. However, MeiChie’s ability to avoid him proved to be quite challenging for Li Ming to deal with.
Thankfully, Li Ming had caught sight of the general direction that MeiChie was dashing to while she was shooting. He brought out all his “Wind Arrow Volley” and “Firelance” trinkets and shot the spells in where he anticipated MeiChie would dash to. Fortunately, 4 of his 6 spell trinkets had hit! This granted him stealth for a short period of time, and would give him just enough time to circle around her. This random attack had dropped her health to 82%
Li Ming dashed straight to her back side. MeiChie was aiming down her barrel, waiting for his assault. However, she didn’t expect him to go to her backside. Li Ming quickly reached down and activated his “Grass Roots Trap”. Activating this trinket would remove his stealth, so the moment he activated it, he immediately used “Shunpo” to appear right in front of her!
Li Ming now had her in close combat range. However, this was neither of the player’s normal fighting range! A gunner would prefer long distance engagements, normally over 5 meters away. A spear user might prefer to be about 1-2 meters away. However, Li Ming was now practically face to face with her!
This startled MeiChie, and before she could react, Li Ming swung his spear downwards. Normally, he wouldn’t have the space to do so. However, he had calculated this, and held his spear near the bladed section. This made it so it was like he was wielding a short sword with an unnaturally long handle instead of a spear.
The spear cut into MeiChie, causing her to drop down to 75% health. Frustrated, she dashed backwards in an attempt to flee from Li Ming.
Suddenly, the “Grass Roots Trap” activated, completely binding any of her movements! She would be binded by the traps for a whole 15 seconds, until an ally freed her, or until he took damage again. Since this was a 1 on 1 match, she would not have the luxury of having an ally save her. MeiChie could only attempt to strategize for her next action following Li Ming’s next assault.
‘Perhaps I should use the “Short Range Teleportation” trinket again…’ she thought, ‘Or maybe I should use my own concussive flare to stop him…’
However, her thoughts were cut short.
*Bzzzzzz*
The sound of crackling electricity filled the air.
Looking up, she saw that Li Ming had enchanted his spear with some sort of lightning spell. This was of course, Li Ming’s trinket: “Enchant: Static”. This enchantment would make every third physical attack stun the target for 2 seconds. The enchantment would normally last a whole minute, but because it was a trinket’s enchantment, it would only enchant his spear for 15 seconds.
But these 15 seconds were just enough for Li Ming. At this time, his trinkets for “Wind Arrow Volley” and “Firelance” had come off cooldown. He chose to wait for a whole 14 seconds before making his assault, which also let his “Shunpo” come off cooldown too.
His last attack was from his spear, so Li Ming started his assault by launching a single “Wind Arrow Volley” followed by a single “Firelance”. He timed it so that his spear would hit his target just after the wind arrows would arrived, but just before the fire lance would. It was the same strategy that he had used earlier in the fight. Only this time, MeiChie had no chance of dodging it due to the “Grass Roots Trap”.
Upon hitting all three strikes within a second, Li Ming entered stealth once more. This assault had brought her down to 59%! Both of his trinkets managed to land critical hits as he had angled both of them to strike her neck.
This time, however, instead of aiming down her scope, MeiChie chose to dash away before closing her eyes and listening to the surroundings. Li Ming was surprised by this. She was trying to find him through hearing him!
Unlike a gunner who had insanely long range, Li Ming would need to close the distance between him and the gunner before he could continue attacking. Thankfully for Li Ming though, she had unwittingly turned around yet again.
Li Ming dashed straight at her, activating “Ghost Strike” for his spear. Again, MeiChie’s cloak glowed bright purple yet again. It seemed to be an anti-ambush type of item that would prevent thieves from landing their “Backstab” ability!
However, this didn’t matter for Li Ming. He had already experienced this once before, and had carefully planned around this. He had waited for his “Shunpo” to come off of cooldown before continuing his assault, just to prevent a situation like this from occurring again!
Li Ming activated his shunpo, dashing to MeiChie’s left side, and swung his spear down towards the back of her neck. Before she could respond, she was already hit by the “Ghost Strike” from Li Ming’s spear. The “Ghost Strike” struck thrice, meaning that she was hit by the “Enchant: Static” effect of being stunned for 2 seconds, as well as “High Tempo”‘s effect of increased damage yet again.
This assault dropped her health to 25%! By hitting the back of her neck, Mei Chie had taken 250% of Li Ming’s regular damage. Furthermore, Li Ming had entered stealth once again! She would be unable to react to his next attack!
MeiChie was truly in dire straits now! Unfortunately, her cloak had also been recently activated autonomously, placing it on cooldown. She would not be able to defend against attacks from her back for another 5 seconds.
But Li Ming would not let her wait 5 seconds for her cloak to come off of cooldown.
Li Ming dashed to her back side again, this time, activating the remainder of his trinkets! Li Ming weaved in basic spear stabs alongside his trinkets being cast. This time, he focused on speed in order to deal the most damage possible and activate the stun again. He didn’t have the luxury of taking time to aim at her neck.
Li Ming pressed onwards, alternating between spell and spear. MeiChie’s health dropped rapidly, and with Li Ming’s fierce attacks that were further buffed by “Persistent Mana”‘s 50% attack speed buff as well as “High Tempo”‘s damage buff, Li Ming carved his way towards victory.
