‘Bai Yan has taken my dormmate, Fang Miaoling as his sister.’
Although Ji Xiaonian was uncomfortable with his decision, she realized that it was only natural that Brother Yan would treat Fang Miaoling well after giving it some more thought. After all, she was the daughter of his savior.
Realizing that it was not a big deal, Ji Xiaonian was no longer bothered by the matter.
After a brief moment of quiet, Ji Xiaonian managed to push down her displeasure and forced a plastic smile at Fang Miaoling. She then commented, “Why, congratulations! You’ve finally ascended like a phoenix!”
‘Not just any phoenix, one whose personality completely changes upon ascension.’
Fang Miaoling had become arrogant, and her possessive tendencies were completely revealed.
“Hmph!”
Fang Miaoling snorted coldly once more. While staring at Ji Xiaonian, she took a sharp jab at her, saying, “I didn’t tell you this so you can congratulate me. I just wanted you to know that you should give up on this delusion of yours. Stop trying to seduce him, he’s not in your league, understood?”
At that moment, Fang Miaoling acted like an aloof princess, and she had imposed her dominating aura onto Ji Xiaonian.
There was not a trace of her orphaned past to be found on her any longer.
However, Ji Xiaonian was not a pushover either.
The one thing she hated the most were people who boasted in front of her.
Had Fang Miaoling not pressed the issue, Ji Xiaonian would have taken it in stride. However, after her repeated bragging, Ji Xiaonian’s mood had soured. With a twitch of her lips, Ji Xiaonian met Miaoling’s disdainful gaze with a cold glare of her own, and she snorted.
“Well, I do enjoy my delusions. Do tell me, is there really anything you can do if I were to continue troubling him?”
‘After all, even Brother Yan himself is helpless against my pestering, so what does that make this fake who dares to act rich in front of me?’
Ji Xiaonian would not play along with this farce any longer.
“You…”
Seeing that Ji Xiaonian’s spirit was still going strong, Fang Miaoling turned red with anger as she cried out, “Ji Xiaonian, how much more shameless can you get? Just take a look at yourself, do you really think Professor Bai would actually fall for you?”
“Well, I agree I’m nothing much, but do you really think that you’re such a hotshot?”
“YOU…. YOU…”
Fang Miaoling’s face had turned green as she glared viciously at Ji Xiaonian. The fact that Xiaonian was still able to maintain a nonchalant expression had made her even angrier.
‘Wait, think. Why do I need to get mad at her?’
‘It’s not worth it.’
As if she had figured something out, Fang Miaoling took in a deep breath and stared at Ji Xiaonian.
“Indeed, I might be insignificant as well, but it just so happens that Professor Bai has taken a liking to me. Well, what can I do? He’s already decided to make me his sister, and he’s even promised to give me anything I request. Ji Xiaonian, I’ve finally seen your true colors. When I return with Professor Bai this week, I’ll ask him to change dorms for me. I don’t want to stay with such a shameless …”
“Slap!”
Before Fang Miaoling had even completed her sentence, a loud smack was launched across her face.
Fang Miaoling was rendered speechless as she stared at the girl around her height in shock.
Ji Xiaonian pursed her lips as she slapped Fang Miaoling. With that slap, her mood had improved greatly, and she chuckled, stating, “The purpose of my slap is to clean that filthy mouth of yours. You have no right to judge whether I’m shameless or not.
“Ha, I’ve also seen your true colors now. Human nature is really volatile, huh. Congratulations, then, you’re now as refined and beautiful as a white lily!”
Ji Xiaonian smiled brilliantly. She blinked her eyes and waited for the white lily in front of her to retaliate.
She was not afraid of getting into a fight with Fang Miaoling. After all, it was not as if she had not fought before.
Fang Miaoling stared at Ji Xiaonian with a bewildered expression. The stinging sensation resonating from her face made her feel so wronged that she wanted to cry.
In the end, without uttering a single word, Fang Miaoling ran out of the dorm while holding her face.
Once Ji Xiaonian had made sure that Fang Miaoling had left, she shrugged her shoulders and unhappily made her way to her bed as she waited for the crisis to descend upon her.
As expected, within the next fifteen minutes, a student ran into her dorm and shouted at her. “Ji Xiaonian, the head counselor would like to see you in his office.”
Ji Xiaonian shrugged her shoulders casually. ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way. So be it, I’m not afraid of you.”
‘At worst, he can only issue a warning!’
However, along her way to the head counselor’s office, Lu Yifei suddenly appeared, and he poked fun at her, asking, “You look awful. Where are you heading to?”
She paused her steps and looked at the exceedingly beautiful man in front of her. Suddenly, she no longer wanted to head to the counselor’s office. ‘Yep, I want to head out. Somewhere fun and noisy.’
“Nowhere specific, do you have any plans tonight?” Ji Xiaonian asked.
Lu Yifei furrowed his brows and rubbed his chin while giving it some thought. “Hmm, I don’t think so? Miss Xiaonian, what is your wish?”
“Since you’re free, then why don’t we head to a bar?”
“A bar?”
“Yeah, you know, since I’ve just experienced heartbreak. No, wait, I’ve never even been in a relationship, so how can I have heartbreak. Ahh, whatever, I’m down in the dumps right now, so I want you to take me out drinking!”
‘School counselor? Ha, who cares?’
“You darn brat, I’m helpless against you. Fine, since you’ve invited me and I have no real reason to reject you, let’s go then.”
He tapped the tip of Ji Xiaonian’s nose affectionately, and with one arm across her shoulder, the two then headed to the parking lot.
Once they got in the car, they vanished from the campus soon after.
Naturally, the counselor was enraged over Ji Xiaonian’s absence and ordered plenty of students to look for her throughout the campus.
Alas, their efforts were fruitless.
On the morning of the second day, Ji Xiaonian had yet to show up and she had even turned off her phone.
This infuriated the counselor even further, and he was forced to give Ji Xiaonian’s family a phone call.
Nine o’clock in the morning, while Ji Chen was talking about company matters with Bai Yan, his phone suddenly rang. Ji Chen then waved his hand, interrupting Bai Yan’s speech, and apologized, “Sorry, I need to take this.”
With his phone in hand, he walked to a massive French window. Once he reached the window, he clicked accept, and before he had even gotten a chance to speak, the caller immediately asked, “Are you Ji Xiaonian’s brother?”
The moment he heard his sister being mentioned, Ji Chen turned serious. He answered, “Yes, I am.”
“Greetings, I’m the head of Ning University’s counseling unit. Let me give you a quick rundown of the situation. Ji Xiaonian has hit somebody in school, and originally, I had planned to meet up with her. However, she’s been missing since last night. Try and see if you can contact her. I’ll have you know, avoiding responsibility like this is a grievous offense.”
The counselor spoke with an enraged tone.
On the other hand, Ji Chen had found the situation rather amusing.
He held back his laughter and answered, “Alright, I’ll contact her now.”
After hanging up, Ji Chen did not immediately dial Ji Xiaonian’s number. Instead, he walked towards Bai Yan, and with a smile, stated, “Man, that’s weird. Can you believe it? Xiaonian hit someone in school and fled. Say, who do you think is senseless enough to anger her?”
Ji Chen understood her family’s little girl extremely well. Unless someone had done something overboard, his little girl would never hit anybody.
Bai Yan’s face was devoid of expression as he stated, “This is not the time to joke around. Don’t you think it’s more important to find out where she is?”
