Let’s Grow Old Together When You’ve Matured - Chapter 48
Chapter 48: What If I Called You Hubby?
Ji Xiaonian’s date with Bai Yan had lasted the entire night, and it was already midnight by the time she returned home.
Bai Yan’s car was parked right before the Ji Residence’s front door. Despite that, Ji Xiaonian was unwilling to get down from the car. Instead, she was looking at Bai Yan with pursed lips, and she had an expectant expression hanging on her face.
His arms rested naturally on the steering wheel when he turned to look at her. All he saw, however, was Ji Xiaonian boldly staring at himself with puckered lips.
He furrowed his brows and pinched her cheeks. “What’re you puckering up for? It’s time to leave the car.”
Ji Xiaonian had a bunch of items piled on top of her. They were the products that she had bought when she shopped with Bai Yan earlier.
Nevertheless, Ji Xiaonian refused to budge. She complained, “Didn’t you say that before my brother returns, you would live together with me? Well, since we’re here, shouldn’t you turn off your car’s engine and head inside with me?”
Bai Yan retracted his hand and looked forward. He quietly answered, “You should return first. I need to park my car at home, but I promise to return later.”
Ji Xiaonian took a glance at her house’s garage. ‘Since big bro has gone overseas, that would mean that his car is occupying the garage. In that case, Bai Yan can only park his car in front of my house. That wouldn’t be appropriate!’
After giving Bai Yan’s words some thought, she decided to get down.
While standing beside the car window, she ushered. “You’d better hurry up, then. I’ll be waiting at my front gate for you.”
Bai Yan heaved a helpless sigh at her. Without answering, he immediately left and steered his car to the direction of his house.
Ji Xiaonian could see Bai Yan’s car gradually fading out of view, and as promised, she waited by her front gate while carrying the items she bought.
She would wait for his return, and only then, would she enter her home. If he were not to return, then, she would head to his house instead.
Unexpectedly, however, her front gates were pushed open not long after she had waited there.
She turned around, only to see Yu Shengjie making his way out and heading towards her. He chided, “Where did you run off to? Why did you return so late?”
Ji Xiaonian tossed the items she bought, which included toys, ornaments, and food, all to Yu Shengjie. “I went shopping. Hey, could you help me with these items? They’re pretty heavy. Oh yeah, I also purposely bought this for you. Since it’s your first time here, I bet you’ve never eaten it before.”
Ji Xiaonian dug out a food container from her pile of items and handed it to Yu Shengjie.
Despite carrying a pile of items, Yu Shengjie had still managed to receive the container that Ji Xiaonian handed to him. He was touched by her actions, and he muttered, “You still thought about buying me food even though you were out with someone else?”
‘It seems that the girl isn’t as heartless as she appears to be!’
The fact that she had cared to bring him food was enough for him.
Ji Xiaonian chuckled. “Of course I did. After all, I’m grateful to you. Had it not been for you, Brother Yan would never have agreed to be in a relationship with me. Anyway, long story short, just rest easy, Sister Shengjie. I promise that I’ll treat you well from now onwards.”
She vowed to do the best for him in terms of their familial ties and would ensure that he understood, despite having no parents, life was still full of warmth and love.
Yu Shengjie narrowed his eyes. Upon hearing about how Ji Xiaonian was now officially in a relationship with the man, a sour sensation suddenly manifested within his chest.
‘Could it be? Did these two reconcile during their excursion and progressed to a couple because of it?’
For some reason, Yu Shengjie had found it hard to breathe.
He grimaced, and while still carrying the items, he coldly suggested, “It’s cold outside, come into the house!”
Ji Xiaonian stood still. While shaking her head, she answered, “You head in first. I’m still waiting for Brother Yan.”
A suspicious expression appeared on Yu Shengjie’s face. “Wait for him? Is he coming over?”
Ji Xiaonian’s face reddened as she answered, “Yep. Since my brother isn’t home, he’s promised to accompany me.”
Yu Shengjie was slightly hurt by her words. “Am I not enough?”
Ji Xiaonian’s smile was naïve and vague. “Having him accompany me is different from having you accompany me. Argh, whatever, just go back inside. I bet he’s arriving soon.”
Noticing how firm the girl’s conviction was, Yu Shengjie had nothing else to say. He then turned around and quietly entered the house.
Before this, he had no idea who Bai Yan was.
However, after returning from the hospital, he immediately looked up Bai Yan on the internet. From there, he learned that Bai Yan was the CEO of Shengtian Group, with a net worth of over 100 billion. Moreover, aside from his wealth and successful career, Bai Yan was also a man with gorgeous looks, and to top it off, there was also not a single piece of dirt that could be used against him.
The only rumor Yu Shengjie could find about Bai Yan was that he was homosexual, and he was attracted to the Vice President of Shengtian Group.
However, Shengtian Group’s Vice President was Ji Xiaonian’s brother, Ji Chen.
Yu Shengjie found that the rumor was completely unreliable. He was certain that it was a bad guess made by the media and the vast users of the internet as there was no evidence backing their claim.
In his view, Bai Yan was truly worthy of attracting females to him. If so, what did it make of himself? Not only had he lost his family, but he was also penniless and burdened with heavy debt.
Had he been in the shoes of a woman, he would have chosen Bai Yan over himself without an ounce of hesitation!
If so, the cute and mischievous little girl from the past would definitely have fallen for Bai Yan as well.
Years and years ago, Yu Shengjie was certain that Ji Xiaonian was infatuated with him. Not only did she love playing with him, but she also loved to sleep with him, laugh around with him, and chased him around as well.
‘But now?’
‘Ji Xiaonian already has Bai Yan by her side. In her eyes, I’m no more than a speck of dust.’
Yu Shengjie understood his position well. Since it was already obvious that he had no chance of beating Bai Yan, he chose not to yield back. As long as Ji Xiaonian was happy, it was enough for him.
…
Ji Xiaonian waited by the front gate for dozens of minutes, and her eyes were already strained from constantly peering ahead. At long last, she spotted the tall and powerful silhouette of a man underneath the streetlight, and she immediately rushed to the man’s side.
She flashed a brilliant smile as she stood before him, and commented, “I was worried that you would go back on your promise, but you actually kept it this time! I really didn’t expect that you would come!”
Bai Yan lowered his gaze at the girl and noticed the goosebumps that had formed on her arms. He furrowed his brows at her and chided, “Didn’t I tell you to enter your house first?”
Ji Xiaonian clung to his arms as they proceeded back to her house. “I was waiting for you. I worried that you wouldn’t return, and so, I made sure to wait by the front gate.”
“What use would that have made if I chose not to return?”
“There is. If you didn’t return, then I would’ve gone to your house to find you.”
Upon reaching her home, Ji Xiaonian immediately pushed the door open and bowed down in a welcoming posture. “Young Master Yan, please enter.”
Bai Yan took a glance at her and pinched her ears, gesturing for her to enter the house with him.
JI Xiaonian hurriedly closed the door and followed along while yelping in pain. “Don’t, don’t pinch my ears, it hurts.”
“What did you just call me?”
Bai Yan halted his steps once they arrived in the living room.
Naturally, Yu Shengjie was nowhere to be seen. After all, they were acting lovey-dovey the moment they returned, and as such, he had already returned to his room.
“Brother Yan…” Ji Xiaonian hurriedly altered her words.
Bai Yan finally let her off and began heading up the stairs. “Address me stupidly again, and I’ll give you an even worse punishment.”
Ji Xiaonian trailed behind him, and she jokingly chuckled, “Man, I only addressed you by Young Master Yan, which is a respectable name on its own. If you considered that stupid, then how would you react if I called you hubby?”
Bai Yan halted in his tracks. He immediately whipped his body around and directed his piercing gaze on the little thing under him.
JI Xiaonian responded by fluttering her huge, round eyes, creating an extremely cute look.
He was rendered speechless against this show of cuteness by her, and in the end, he continued heading up without speaking a single word.
