Let’s Grow Old Together When You’ve Matured - Chapter 49
Chapter 49: The Everchanging Man
With a great sense of familiarity, Bai Yan directly made his way towards Ji Chen’s room.
Ji Xiaonian followed behind him, and when she saw him opening the door to her brother’s room, she got curious. She hurriedly caught up to him and asked, “Why are you in my brother’s room?”
While unbuttoning his shirt, Bai Yan turned to look at Ji Xiaonian and asked, “What else do you think I’m doing? It’s pretty late now. You should head back to your room and rest. I’m going to hit the showers and then sleep.”
It was already the wee hours before dawn, and it was high time for them to rest.
Bai Yan was already heading towards the showers as he spoke.
Ji Xiaonian frowned. She was slightly frustrated, “Don’t tell me you’re going to sleep on my brother’s bed? Why? T-The bed in my room is plenty big too!”
She did not say it out loud, but what she had meant was, ‘Why sleep alone when we could sleep together?’
Bai Yan paused. When he turned around and saw the lustful expression on Ji Xiaonian’s face, he was rendered speechless and disappointed.
“You should be glad that I’ve decided to live with you. Stop imitating the acts of whores and attempt to seduce me with every means at your disposal. Ji Xiaonian, you should be well aware that I don’t like lusty women who spend their days constantly thinking about men.”
“Take this as my final warning to you.”
Bai Yan’s face was devoid of emotion. After giving his warning, he immediately entered the bathroom and slammed the door shut, without giving a single ounce of consideration for Ji Xiaonian’s feelings.
On the other hand, Ji Xiaonian stood still in disbelief.
‘Was Bai Yan serious just now? Was he warning me?’
‘Was he warning me to keep my distance from him?’
‘Or was he telling me to be more reserved?’
‘But he was clearly the one who started all this by kissing me first! He was the one who initiated this whole thing. Plus, didn’t we have a blast watching the movies, shopping, and dining together?’
‘Why did his attitude suddenly change once he returned home?’
With Bai Yan’s words still echoing in her ears, Ji Xiaonian stared at Bai Yan’s vague figure in the bathroom. At that moment, Ji Xiaonian felt as if a knife had gone through her heart.
‘I don’t like lusty women who spend their days constantly thinking about men.’
‘In other words, does he see my clinginess as no different from the seduction of other women?!’
For some reason, Ji Xiaonian could feel her nose becoming stuffy. A bitter sensation ran down her throat as it began to ache, and tears began to flow out of her eyes as if they had caught sand.
She choked for a moment, and while gritting her teeth, she stared vehemently at the figure behind the shiny glass door. She was so mad that her chest had begun to tighten.
In the end, Ji Xiaonian slammed the door and exited the room without looking back.
She ran straight into her room, locked the door, and bawled her eyes out while lying on her bed.
Ji Xiaonian had finally understood what kind of person Bai Yan was. He was like a dark cloud with a volatile temperament, he was ever-changing, and Ji Xiaonian had never understood him. She had never known what his thoughts were.
He was the one who started it all when he went to the hospital. He was the one who promised to be in a relationship with her. So, what prompted him to say those horrible words?
‘Am I really that shameless within his eyes?’
The more Ji Xiaonian cried, the sadder she got. The sadder she got, the more her hatred for Bai Yan grew.
‘I had already decided that I would ignore him for the rest of my life, but why did he interrupt my plans by becoming so gentle and warm all of a sudden?’
‘Since his words were especially vicious this time around, then I, Ji Xiaonian should have more backbone. I should stay far away from him and stop taking the initiative to interact with him.’
Due to Bai Yan’s words, Ji Xiaonian had cried for who-knows-how-long throughout the night, to the extent that she had slept in on the second morning.
Conversely, Yu Shengjie had woken up rather early, and he was waiting for her with the breakfast he prepared.
When Bai Yan passed by Ji Xiaonian’s room, he attempted to open her door to check whether she was awake. Much to his surprise, however, he was unable to open the door.
Since he knew where the spare key was, Bai Yan went ahead and retrieved it. When he opened the door, he noticed that the girl was still lying in bed, and as such, he strode to his side and pulled off her blanket.
“Ji Xiaonian.”
The girl on the bed had given no response.
Bai Yan sat down on the bed and shook her with his hand. He then yelled, “Ji Xiaonian!”
“Umm~”
Ji Xiaonian gave a groggy response and flipped her body around, revealing her tear-ridden face, and eyes that were as swollen as peaches. The sight had stung Bai Yan’s heart.
Before Bai Yan had managed to say anything, the little girl was already slowly opening her eyes.
Never in Ji Xiaonian’s wildest dreams would she have expected Bai Yan waking up by her side. She reacted adversely to the surprising situation, and like a torrential river, she flowed far away from him and got onto the opposite end of her bed.
“You! Why are you here?” Visible shock was written throughout her face.
Bai Yan stood up, and in his neat and tidy attire, he answered, “It’s getting late. It’s about time you woke up. Since today’s a Sunday, where else do you want to go to have fun?”
“…”
Bai Yan appearing in her room was certainly a pleasant surprise.
However, JI Xiaonian could clearly recall the words he mentioned the previous night.
She hurriedly got off the bed, and while putting on her shoes, she shouted, “I don’t want to go anywhere! You should go and handle your work!”
Following that, Ji Xiaonian grabbed her clothes from her wardrobe and ran directly into the washroom.
“…”
Bai Yan pursed his lips and stared at Ji Xiaonian’s rapidly receding silhouette as he lapsed into thought. In the end, he decided to make his way to her.
While standing outside the washroom, and through the layer of frosted glass that separated them, he told her, “Since you don’t want to go anywhere, then I’ll be heading to the office to work. Feel free to call me if anything comes up.”
“I understand, please leave!”
Ji Xiaonian had her back facing the glass door. When she heard how gentle Bai Yan’s voice had become again, she stared at the mirror and began to cry again.
‘You psycho.’
‘You’re a psycho, Bai Yan. How could you be so merciless at one moment, and be so gentle in the next?’
Despite the discomfort in her heart, Ji Xiaonian stayed firm in her decision. This time, she refused to cling to him any longer, and she would no longer bother him.
Bai Yan turned around and left. While making his way down, he noticed that Yu Shengjie was sitting in the dining room, as if he was waiting to have breakfast with the girl.
Making no attempt to be polite, Bai Yan immediately walked over and sat in the dining room.
Yu Shengjie noticed that Bai Yan was sitting in Ji Xiaonian’s place. Even though Bai Yan was the head of a major organization, Yu Shengjie saw no reason that he should kowtow to him.
‘Plus, I don’t even know this guy. Why should I share the things I made with him?’
Yu Shengjie rudely spat, “Sorry, but I made this breakfast specially for Ji Xiaonian. Please back off.”
Bai Yan turned a deaf ear to his words. While locking gazes with Yu Shengjie, Bai Yan chowed down on the fried eggs that Yu Shengjie made, and arrogantly declared, “I’ll give you ten million for you to move out of here.”
Bai Yan was exuding a domineering aura and had an arrogant air to him.
“…”
Yu Shengjie was shocked. ‘What kind of person does this man think he is? To think that he would try to get me to move out?”
He was aware that he was currently a poverty-stricken brat with no influence whatsoever. However, he did not see how living in the Ji Residence had anything to do with financial status.
“If you’re really that worried that I’ll steal Ji Xiaonian from you, then, don’t you think that 10 million is a bit cheap for a big boss like you?” Since there was money right before him for the taking, it would be a waste for Yu Shengjie to reject it.
