Let’s Grow Old Together When You’ve Matured - Chapter 53
Chapter 53: Beg Him for Help
In order to protect Lu Yifei, the little girl did not seem to care if something was thrown toward her direction at full speed. Yu Shengjie who was in the backseat noticed the hazard straight away and leaped up immediately to embrace Ji Xiaonian into his arms.
Upon avoiding the egg successfully, he reprimanded the crowd loudly in an imposing manner, “Stop it right now. Who do you think you are? What gives you the right to criticize another person like this?”
Perhaps it was his supercilious nature or his striking demeanor coupled with a stunning appearance, the crowd stopped their provoking actions one after another following Yu Shengjie’s roar. Nonetheless, they still glared with hostility at Lu Yifei, who was now battered and exhausted, as if with the intent to kill.
“Why do other people’s affairs concern you so much? All of you, get out of here now!” Yu Shengjie shouted again.
The students looked at each other in surprise and began to walk away.
When the crowd dispersed eventually, Ji Xiaonian took out several tissues and tried to wipe off the egg mixture on Lu Yifei, all the while complaining furiously, “They’ve gone way too far. How could they do this to you? Yifei, are you okay?”
Lu Yifei remained seated motionless as if his soul had been sucked out of his body. The color had drained from his face and his eyes were staring blankly into the distance.
He looked like a lifeless statue filled with coldness and desolation and was quiet the whole time. Again, Ji Xiaonian questioned, “Yifei, talk to me. Are you alright?”
“Why was your encounter with that man photographed? Why was that man’s face mosaicked? Is he the one behind this? Tell me who he is and I’ll make sure he bears the consequences of his actions.”
That was too much! How could that person do this to him?
Ji Xiaonian was positive that Yifei fought with that man, and now the latter was waiting for an opportunity for revenge. There was no way she would allow such horrible things to continue to develop.
Otherwise, there was no doubt that Lu Yifei would be expelled from the university.
As if suddenly reminded of something, Ji Xiaonian retrieved her cell phone quickly and called her Elder Brother. He was perhaps the only person that could help Yifei to get out of this situation.
Lu Yifei remained in his seat perfectly still. His vacant eyes revealed despair and he appeared as if his heart stopped beating.
Yu Shengjie stood aside in silence although he knew the little girl was not capable of solving Lu Yifei’s problem.
No more than himself.
Hence, he chose to be silent.
Ji Xiaonian shouted anxiously into the phone as soon as it was answered, “Elder Brother, when will you be back?”
The man on the other end of the phone became concerned when he noticed the impatience in the little girl’s voice. With furrowed brows, he questioned, “Xiaonian, is something wrong?”
“The thing is, Lu Yifei is being bullied by a b*stard. Elder Brother, you’re the one that hired him as my bodyguard. Will you help him now that he’s in trouble?”
“…”
Ji Chen kept quiet for a long while before finally replying in an indifferent tone, “You should be focusing on your studies and not stick your nose in someone else’s problem.”
“Eh? It’s not as simple as that. Listen to me, Elder Brother, he’s probably going to get expelled from the university. Can you make a phone call and request them to deal with this matter leniently? You’re one of the stockholders of this university, after all. With you pulling the strings, the dean will not be too inconsiderate with him. You should…”
“Ji Xiaonian, he’s only but a mean, lowly bodyguard. Is it worth it for you to call me personally to ask for help? How do you think I became the stockholder of this university? Focus on your studies and stop meddling in other people’s business. It’s a disgrace to keep him around if he’s indiscreet in his conduct and doesn’t know how to handle his affairs properly. I’ll fire him when I return. Alright, I’m in the middle of something so I’ll hang up now.”
“Um… No, Elder Brother, Elder Brother…”
The call cut off before Ji Xiaonian could speak again.
Holding the phone in one hand, she felt slightly lost and confused.
Why did her Elder Brother reject without hesitation before giving her a chance to explain Lu Yifei’s circumstances?
Besides, he mentioned something about Yifei being a mean, lowly bodyguard, and wanting to fire him? Since when did her Elder Brother become so unsympathetic?
How could he behave so unsympathetically!
“Xiaonian, you should get out of the car.”
Ji Chen’s unfeeling, icy voice also entered Lu Yifei’s ears clearly, as he was seated next to her in the car.
He felt like he had lost the meaning of life. The only thing he wanted to do now was to find somewhere quiet to tend his heavily damaged wound.
Ji Xiaonian was brought back to reality and her attention landed on Lu Yifei once again. She could not bear to witness his sorry expression. “Yifei, that b*stard must be framing you. Don’t you worry, I’ll come up with a solution so that the university does not take any disciplinary actions against you.”
If her Elder Brother did not want to assist because he was unclear about the things happening around here, then Bai Yan should be able to lend him a helping hand!
“Thanks, but you should get out of the car now. I want to leave here to take a breather.” With the things that were going around right now, he definitely should not be staying in the university.
Maybe going out for a ride would cheer him up!
Ji Xiaonian pushed the door open and left the car. She had wanted to comfort Lu Yifei who was still in the convertible, but he left the scene in a flash and quickly disappeared from her sight.
She knew that he must be feeling horrible.
However, seeing as the news was already published in the university’s papers, she knew that the dean was going to take serious disciplinary actions against him.
Therefore, she needed to look for Bai Yan straight away. Maybe Bai Yan would be able to get Lu Yifei out of his misery.
At the thought of this, Ji Xiaonian turned around and took to her heels.
Yu Shengjie trailed after her. “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to look for Bai Yan.”
“Do you think that Bai Yan will help Lu Yifei?”
“He will if I beg him.”
Yu Shengjie kept up with her pace and said rather helplessly, “Niannian, Lu Yifei is only a disposable bodyguard to you. Why are you determined to help him?”
If he remembered correctly, this little girl had just fallen out with Bai Yan.
However, she was going to beg that man, all because to save the reputation of an insignificant person? This little girl was indeed a loyal person.
“Even though you’re right, I’m not used to seeing people close to me getting bullied. Besides, I’m sure Lu Yifei’s been framed and he must have provoked somebody. I’ll not turn a blind eye to his suffering since he’s my friend.”
Ji Xiaonian who was walking in great strides began running towards the university’s Multipurpose Center.
Knowing that he could not convince her, Yu Shengjie had no other alternative than to let her do things her way!
“It’s Monday, are you sure that Bai Yan will be here today? If I remember correctly, he only teaches here on Wednesdays and Fridays.”
At the sound of that, Ji Xiaonian stopped running abruptly. She looked over her shoulder at Yu Shengjie and knitted her brows. “It seems that you might be right. If so, I should look for him in the company. He must be there.”
Without further consideration, she turned and dashed towards the university gate.
Just when she arrived by the gate, she noticed a familiar, imperious-looking sedan coming to a halt right in front of her.
Ji Xiaonian was startled when she saw the people sitting inside the car.
A few moments later, Fang Miaoling appeared from the car, smiling like a beautiful flower. Then, she waved goodbye to the man behind the wheel. “I should get going now. See you later, Big Brother Bai.”
