Level 1 Strongest Sage ~ - Book 12: Chapter 21
Author’s note:
Let us resume the epilogue.
The following story will be about Halt’s establishment of his adventurer clan.
“Captain Gad. The task of supervising the Adventurer Promotion Examination had fallen to us once again after so long.”
Vice Captain Kiel called out to Captain Gad in the barracks of the 20th squad of the Royal Order of Chivalry.
“Ahh, again, huh… Alright, Kiel, you do it.”
“I’m sorry but I can’t. Only knights ranked captain and above are allowed to do that job, given that it’s a test that will evaluate the C-ranked adventurers who would also be taking requests and commissions from the kingdom. You already know that, right?”
In this kingdom, the examination for the advancement of adventurers to C-rank must be conducted by the captain of the knight’s order.
And just as Kiel said, the goal of the exam was to test the strength and character of the aspiring adventurers. C-ranked adventurers are eligible to accept commissions sent by the kingdom to the Adventurer’s Guild.
Those commissions were compensated handsomely depending on the content. However, if the mission fails, it would have a huge impact on the kingdom, so it’s important that the adventurers should be trustworthy and competent or else it wouldn’t work.
Thus, it was necessary for the captain of the kingdom’s knight order to acknowledge the adventurers himself.
“Tsk. What a pain.”
“Come now, don’t be like that. We hit the jackpot this time, after all.”
“…What? For real?”
Gad became excited when he heard the vice captain’s words.
“Yes, it’s true. They’re coming from the Royal Capital’s Adventurers’ Guild, but around 5 gorgeous women and girls will be taking the exam.”
“W-Whoa…!”
Kiel always cuts corners when doing his knight jobs and more often than not dumps all the troublesome work on Gad. Despite his lazy nature, Gad can’t deny that Kiel has an eye for women.
This vice captain used the words ‘gorgeous women and girls’ himself.
Gad can expect that, then. Moreover, it’s not only one, but many of them who will take the exam.
In that case, he might have a ‘chance’.
Gad came to that conclusion.
Even though it was the kingdom’s order of the knights, not all of them held deep patriotic feelings and loyalty towards the kingdom.
Just like Gad and Kiel, there were also many of them chosen for their abilities and skills.
It was enough for them to pay lip service to loyalty.
However, it was also because of that that they rarely get assigned to matters of national importance.
Moreover, the unit they were assigned to was the 20th squad, the lowest-ranking unit within the royal knight order.
Those assigned to this unit were all people who proved their skills, but didn’t hold an ounce of patriotism within them. They were the type of people who would cause a huge problem if left to their own devices as ordinary civilians.
Gil, the present King of Glendale, decided to recruit such people to be part of the kingdom’s order of knights, assigned miscellaneous jobs that were of moderate importance and paid them wages, effectively keeping troublesome people under his watch and keeping them in check.
The 20th squad might be riddled with problematic people, but it was presently quite organized. It was because Captain Gad was strong.
The most powerful guy has the last say — it’s the squad’s rule that any dispute happening within the unit should be resolved by 1v1 combat between the parties involved. The loser will then have to absolutely obey the instructions of the winner.
Despite this unit being the melting pot of the powerful people within the kingdom of Glendale,
every single person within the 20th squad of the chivalric order had been beaten into submission by Gad.
He was that strong.
Gad is known as one of the “Glendale’s Top Four” alongside Cain, the supreme commander of the order of knights, and Leon, the captain of the 13th squad. Actually, it wasn’t widely known that Gil Glendale, the present monarch of the kingdom, was as strong as Cain.
And this Gad had one more problem aside from his lack of patriotism.
He was a huge womanizer.
“Girls who become adventurers are mostly poor air-headed gals, right. Heh, it seems like I can… have a taste this time too.”
“Please don’t forget to give me some if there’s too many of them.”
“I’ll pass them all to you after I’m done with them.”
“Yeah… Well, given the caliber of those girls, I’m totally fine with that.”
In the past, Kiel didn’t make a move towards the women that Gad did in exchange for giving them passing marks.
Yet, he even said that he’s fine going after Gad.
That speaks volumes about how great the incoming women were.
“Ahh, I’m looking forward to it.”
Gad leered as he prepared to go towards the Adventurer’s Guild.
