Leveling Up My Husband to the Max - CH 41
Jenia was still lying down, just as she was when Amber had left. For a moment, Amber worried that Bella’s servants came and harassed her, but she saw no such signs.
Jenia was surprised at the sight of Amber. It seemed like she had no idea that Amber would come again.
“Please, stay still.” Amber ordered, but Jenia shook her head and hurriedly got up.
“I’ve gotten better now. I will return to the laundry area to continue working around dinner time.” Though the doctor told her to rest until tomorrow, Jenia said she would work. “The others will have to work just as much as I rest, after all.”
“About that.” Forcing Jenia to stay in bed, Amber dragged a chair over and sat down as she spoke. “Jenia, I was thinking of taking you as my exclusive maid.”
“… Excuse me?” Jenia’s eyes widened into saucers. “An exclusive maid?”
Even if she was a maid, there was a world of difference between a maid who labored in laundry and a maid who exclusively attended to a noble.
Most laundry maids would never even get the chance to see the interior of the castle, even if if they worked the rest of their lives. To jump over that huge gap so suddenly… Though she wouldn’t be able to compare herself to an exclusive lady-in-waiting, it was still an extremely accelerated promotion.
Jenia’s eyes widened.
“But I’m sure that the mistress and the head maid won’t give permission…”
“The Duke has given his permission. I’ve already informed the butler as well.”
This was Amber’s request, prior to leaving the dining room.
“Of course, you may do whatever you please, Madam.”
The expression on his face was innocent, it was as if he had no idea what kind of political implication within the household to personally choose an exclusive maid.
“I don’t understand why you are treating me so kindly…”
Amber’s expression twisted into confusion at Jenia’s words. “Did you not ask me to take you in? And to change the household?”
“Well that’s…”
Jenia’s eyes shook.
Though Jenia blurted those words while dazed from medication, the regret crashed in once Amber left for her meal. Her words were too overbearing when Amber had only just arrived with no one around to support her.
At that time, Jenia decided that no matter Amber’s reaction, whether she’d hesitate or avoid her, Jenia wouldn’t be disappointed in Amber.
Yet Amber had come as soon as she finished her meal. And reaffirmed her promise, even taking Jenia to be her exclusive maid.
It was an obvious choice for Amber who wanted to change her future, but for Jenia, it was something close to a miracle.
‘So there is truly… hope…’ Jenia bit her lips tightly to hold back her tears. The bond that formed between them in Amber’s previous life had been established again, but it was even stronger than before.
“Can you also recommend a few maids you find trustworthy? I am thinking of having some people by my side.”
“Yes, of course, Mistress.” Jenia, deeply moved, bowed her head.
“Then starting tomorrow, your workplace will be my room. Don’t go back to laundry today and just recover here. This is my first order for you.”
“Yes! I shall rest well to serve you at my best condition.”
At Jenia’s enthusiastic response, Amber smiled.
‘What a warm smile…’
Jenia stared at Amber’s smile with a dazed look. Kalix wasn’t the only one mesmerized by Amber’s smile.
Though Amber herself didn’t realize, her smile held a warmth that embraced those who saw it with the warmth of a fireplace.
It was because she was reborn after experiencing such an excruciating pain that was her life that she was able to make such a smile.
It was at that moment.
“Madam, it is Heinreich.” The butler’s voice came from outside the door.
“I will be there soon.” Amber bid farewell to Jenia and stepped out of the private room.
The person waiting outside the door was an elderly male butler with silver hair who bowed courteously when she appeared.
Lifting his head, he studied Amber with his sharp and flawless eyes.
