Leveling Up My Husband to the Max - CH 43
For Amber’s case, however, it would have been difficult to send livestock for the two month travel to the East. It was the same for magic items that needed careful management. As such, the viscount filled two carriages to the brim with jewelry.
Heinreich became filled with complicated emotions at the order to return her jewelry.
“I have already received the orders to bring the madam’s jewelry to your room.” He answered, with his head bowed.
Amber stared at Heinreich, whose expression never changed, and smiled as she opened her mouth again. “Is that so? It will be easier for me then. Then could you also send a merchant who will offer good value for them? I have to sell them all, you see.”
“Excuse me?” This time, even Heinreich was unable to maintain his deadpan expression.
“Though the jewelry and accessories are quite valuable, we cannot use them unless they are converted to currency, is that not so?”
“You are right about that, but…” Heinreich was surprised at the knowledge that Amber planned to sell her jewelry without a shred of hesitation or regret.
‘Does she not wish to acquire luxury goods?’ To purchase luxury goods, it was much more effective to exchange jewelry than to simply buy them with currency.
Heinreich was surprised that he himself had thought so far on his own. Though he was confident in his ability to see things objectively, he had to admit that he himself seemed to have held quite the strong bias against Amber.
He found himself unconsciously studying Amber’s expression for a reaction. She may have somehow noticed that he held a bias against her, but Amber was surprisingly calm.
‘Thankfully, it seems like she didn’t notice.’ Despite his relief, Heinreich felt a pang of guilt at the innocence of her straight gaze.
“On my way to the castle, I saw a large number of citizens starving for food.”
At that moment, Amber once again said something outside of his expectations. He was once again unable to hide his agitation.
Even on a small scale, they could not ignore the influence that monster waves had on the Eastern Lands.
The citizens of the duchy needed food and provisions that required hunting and gathering during the winter, but because of the monsters, most didn’t dare to leave their homes. As a result, more and more citizens starved from a lack of provisions.
“I would like to discuss how to allocate the money I will acquire from the jewelry. As that is the case, will you come with me?” She spoke of the dowry immediately following the state of the citizens. It was a sign that she planned to use the money to rescue the starving citizens from death.
“…I shall have the maids prepare tea.” In the end, Heinreich surrendered.
Amber sat down with a satisfied expression on her face. After the maids brought refreshments and tea, Heinreich sent them off and set the table himself.
The maid that brought the tea curiously glanced inside and ran off when the door closed.
‘I guess she’s off to report to Bella.’ Amber thought to stop her, but let her be. The dowry was too important an issue to hide from Bella regardless. Instead of having to deal with Bella trying to steal the dowry again, Amber decided to bring Heinreich to her side as soon as possible.
“Let me be direct. After selling the jewelry, aside from 500,000 stals, I want you to allocate the rest of the money for the development and management of the territory.”
Heinreich’s eyes widened. Amber watched for the hint of relief that flashed across his face.
For Heinreich who had been deeply worried about the financial state of the duchy after it had been brought to ruins by Bella who didn’t care about the citizens of the East, Amber’s words were nothing less than salvation.
“I’m sure you know this, but in order to do that I need your full support. It hasn’t been that long since I arrived in the Eastern lands, and there are people aiming for my dowry money.”
“When you mean for me to fully support you…”
“Be someone that I can trust and have on my side.”
