Leveling Up My Husband to the Max - CH 56
Nuova4-5 minutes
Amber was well aware of the reason behind Luna’s fear.
Nobles wanted their servants to serve them out of loyalty instead of money or special treatment. They didn’t like the truth that their servants most likely only stayed to make money.
But Amber didn’t react in any particular manner at Luna’s words.
‘Working out of pure respect and loyalty? There isn’t a single servant in the world that has that mindset!’ Ever since Amber was born, she had never seen a single servant like th… ‘Oh wait, I actually did.’
There was one such case.
The knights that served Kalix. It was impossible to find anyone else with deeper loyalty than those who served as his knights. Even if Kalix lost everything and became a beggar, they would stay by his side.
But for Amber, she had neither the skill nor time to develop such a group of people.
She was the daughter of a merchant. She was well aware of the reality that profit for both sides were often worth more than lofty ideas like loyalty.
“Good job.” Amber complimented Luna without delay. It was Amber’s goal for the servants working in the castle to hear about the special treatment that Luna was receiving, after all. “I told you, did I not? You will be undergoing much hardship, and receive just as much in rewards in return.”
Amber emphasized her words. “I hope you understand that. If you keep working diligently for me loyally, I will also reward you endlessly. This is very rational and something to be proud of.”
The two maids had confused expressions on their faces. Never in their lives had they ever encountered a noble who spoke like Amer did after all.
“The next time someone asks, answer without hiding anything.”
“Yes, Mistress.”
“Ah, and yesterday, you all did very well.” Amber spoke with a genuine tone.
At her compliment, joy filled both of their faces. For the two of them, her words were a kindness they hadn’t received in quite some time.
“Thank you!”
“We promise to serve you even better from now on, Mistress.”
To work under Bella for so long and not receive a single compliment was one of their many disappointments.
“Now then, could you braid my hair for me?”
Jenia proceeded to braid Amber’s hair while Luna arranged pearl accessories.
“Mistress, it suits you very well. You look even more beautiful than yesterday.”
Amber regarded Jenia’s compliment as the usual lip service from servants to master and laughed it off.
But Jenia’s words were spoken in truth. She was as bad at lying as she was at snitching.
Amber’s face and body were filled with life thanks to the comfortable sleep she had last night, and the dress that she brought from the Western Lands looked perfect on her. Her braided hair decorated with subdued pearls also accentuated her elegant and beautiful face.
“Thank you, Jenia. Now then, shall we go out?” Amber spoke, as she stared at her younger appearance.
“Yes! I shall prepare for us to leave right away.”
Soon, Amber appeared outside to see the knights going to battle off.
Kalix was already outside. Ashe was tending to the knights, he had his back towards Amber and hadn’t noticed her appearance. Amber was about to head towards him but suddenly stopped.
It was because she saw Bella standing next to him.
Bella was dressed like she was attending a banquet ball.
With her hair and makeup done, the glamorous Bella stood out like a sore thumb amongst the empty and desolate drill hall.
Meanwhile, the knights present were garbed with worn out armor and held their weapons with determined expressions. Though the weapons were maintained and kept in top condition, while they weren’t rusted or blunt, it was clear that they were reaching their end of life.
At the forefront stood the appointed Sir Jeit to lead the subjugation instead of Kalix. Though middle-aged, he was still bulky in stature and held a powerful spirit that lowered the confidence of anyone who laid eyes on him.
