Life didn’t get easier, even in another world. - Chapter 353
353 Go back
The room they were sitting in was not really bright. It was mainly because there was no natural light in The void, and there was no electricity or anything like that in this place, making some hand-made lights and candles the only stuff that could light up the area.
The light inside the room was not of the kind that Kairen was used to, so he had chosen a spot darker than the other parts of the room to sit in as the light made his eyes sore. On the other hand, Reynold’s face, sitting right opposite Kairen and close to the source of light inside the room, was lit completely. It was as if he was emanating light himself. His face was so bright that Kairen thought he would suddenly ascend to the heavens or something. Among his anger and confusion, this thought made him chuckle inwardly by imagining the all-serious Reynold suddenly moving up into the air in his sitting position.
He shook that thought off of his head and once again focused on what the redhead was saying.
“I can’t say that it will 100 percent work, but there is a high probability that we can connect his soul to the world where his body still resides if we use the link between the two devices. The two devices are supposed to connect through some special paths made in the universal chain, and a soul is also a part of this universe even if it is inside The Void. On the other hand, his body didn’t get destroyed by that artifact, making his soul and body connect, letting them to still be of one reason and result. Thus, when certain factors are taken into consideration, then it is highly likely that he will be able to return to his world.”
“So, how should he use the connection to return back?”
Reynold spent a few seconds thinking about the answer before heaving a sigh.
“There is a way that crosses my mind. It’ll probably work, however, we need to do some preparations before that. In addition to that, the device on your side also needs some adjustments… and probably it should be isolated from the outside… as some unexpected stuff might happen when we try to use the link. But before all that, we need to confirm that Kain still has the ability to use his unique power in The Void… That’s a crucial part of the plan. All of these… might take a long time to prepare. I’m not sure how long it will take as most of them depend on Kain and his ability, but it can’t be done so soon. Also, you need to go back first to fix the link before we can try anything.”
Kairen listened carefully to Reynold’s words and then nodded his head in understanding. Reynold explained things simply and avoided talking about any complicated subjects or going deep into the details. It was probably because he was scared that Kairen might not understand them, and honestly, Kairen was grateful for that. He didn’t want to know more about how the link would work or even the preparations that needed to be done, as knowing more would only make him encounter more problems.
“Then, I can trust you on helping out Kain?”
…..
Reynold cast him a glance, one that was different from the cold eyes he had when he was talking about linking the devices, while the edges of his eyes twitched slightly.
“You can always trust me.”
Kairen couldn’t help but frown at the redhead’s strange tone and expression, but he didn’t say anything as Reynold’s sudden switches in mood had become somewhat natural to him.
There was a brief silence in the room until Reynold spoke up as he moved to his feet.
“Before you go, I must see myself how much control you have over your power.”
Following Reynold, Kairen also got up and walked out of the room without saying anything. He already expected Reynold to test out his control over his power, as the reason he was still in The Void was that he needed to control the power flowing in his soul.
On their way to the place arranged for Kairen’s training, the two of them engaged in simple conversation regarding matters that were not too important. No matter how much Kairen tried, the redhead didn’t answer any of his questions that were related to his past life and the source of his power. Even after he was done showing the man how he could control his power and asked Reynold to teach him how to create some strong offensive attacks with his power, his request was rejected.
“But I want to know how to make one of those strong thunderbolts!”
Kairen had been thinking about this all the time. He wanted to create one of those thunderbolts that The Holy Saint used to attack him. They were strong, effective… and very cool! However, no matter how much he tried, he couldn’t form anything that even looked close to a thunderbolt. He was laughed at by Kain whenever he attempted to form an attack.
“Samuel can use his power in such extravagant ways just because he has lived for a long time. That’s not something that normal humans can achieve, and your power is also not enough for that.”
There was no room left for argument. Kairen nodded his head somewhat solemnly and continued showing Reynold his control over his power and the new things he had learned.
In the next few ‘days’, Kairen had nothing to do but wait for the construction of the device, read his unfinished books, persuade Kain to do whatever Reynold asks him to do in order to return to his body, and bother the redhead. Soon enough, Kairen was once again called to the castle. By then, the machine was almost built.
“I’ll create a portal for you. Jump in it, and you’ll go back to your own world.”
That was the first thing Reynold said as soon as Kairen entered the room. Kairen had long anticipated and expected to hear such a thing, but now that the thing actually happened, he was somewhat taken aback, probably because he didn’t expect Reynold to state those words in such a cold manner. It left him feeling as if he was a guest that had stayed for too long at the host’s house, making them irritated, and thus he was being kicked out.
Kairen swallowed the sudden, and unreasonable bitterness and nodded his head. The ‘host’s house,’ was nothing but a void, the guest had nothing to take from here, nor he could. There were no clothes to pack nor there were any belongings he had left behind. He couldn’t take anything back to his world even if he wanted to.
‘But I’ve got to bid farewell to Kain for now!’
However, before he could even turn around, someone tapped his arm, and without waiting for his response, pulled him into an embrace.
“…”
Searching for words to say was useless. No matter how much he thought, Kairen couldn’t form the proper sentence in his mind and find the right thing to say, so he just silently hugged his brother back. It was the same for Kain. He just patted the little stupid creature on the back a few times before finally letting him go.
Once Kairen turned to Reynold, there was a small, whirling portal beside the man.
“….”
“Jump in.”
“…”
Kairen glanced at the redhead for a second, waiting for any last words or maybe a goodbye to hear, but he only received the man’s blank gaze in response. Nodding his head, Kairen shot a smile at Kain as he jumped inside the portal. He didn’t forget to say his last words to his brother.
“See you later.”
As soon as those words were spoken, the scenery around him changed rapidly and once he reopened his eyes, he was in a familiar place.
