Like A Ray In My Night - 139 Planning Something
Kui Min didn’t even know where to begin. She sat down at Mei Chao Bing’s gesture and then rubbed her hands, looking from one person to the other. She didn’t know what exactly it was that Yang Wu Huang and the others were planning and now that she was here, she wasn’t quite sure if it was alright to just tell them that she suspected something even though she had no evidence.
But then again, maybe Mei Chao Bing would be able to figure it out. At the very least, he would be able to keep an eye open for anything suspicious now that he was warned. “Ao Jing just came to me. He told me that your group had decided to prepare a bit longer and would only leave tomorrow. He suggested that I come and talk to you.”
Mei Chao Bing raised his brows, a little surprised that Yang Wu Huang’s group had actually dared to try to use Kui Min for this. Well, they probably had thought that she was gullible because of her young age. Not that she was that much younger than them. After all, even Yun Bei Fen was only eight years his junior. The only reason he seemed younger was because of how sheltered he had grown up in the Teng Yong Sect. If not for that, he would probably be completely different.
The same could be said about Kui Min though. While the female disciples were sometimes treated a little less strict than the male ones, that wasn’t true for all of them and even then, they would still have to go through the regular training and also the missions outside. It was merely that they would be punished less heavily when something happened and more often than not, the Elders would send more disciples together if there were female disciples among them.
So while Kui Min was indeed slightly younger than them and might seem a little more simple, she was in no way a fool. In fact, if he had to talk about one person that might’ve been more easily used, it would have been Yi Ju. She definitely acted a lot more like Yun Bei Fen. Well, whatever the reason for picking her, it was obvious what he wanted. “They are likely prying for information. They’re planning something.”
Kui Min nodded. “That’s what I thought! I’m not sure what it is though. He didn’t say anything worthwhile. Just that I might miss Yun Bei Fen since we’re rumored to get along well and that I might want to come and talk to you.”
Yun Bei Fen looked from one person to the other and couldn’t help but be amazed. Wasn’t this precisely what that senior martial brother Song had just told them? It seemed he had been right! Maybe they should be happy that he had warned them? He wasn’t quite sure if he should bring it up though. After all, Mei Chao Bing had seemed a little angry at him. He didn’t want to make him think of that again.
Mei Chao Bing pondered a little but there really was no clue to be had. Well, maybe that was also an indication of something. “I guess that they first went to ask Song Mu what we were planning on doing but he mustn’t have told them anything. So they were probably desperate and hoped that they could entice you to come over, ask us about our plans, and would then tell them about it.”
Kui Min furrowed her brows. “Why would I do that? I’m not on friendly terms with them!”
Mei Chao Bing nodded. “That’s true. But then again, you are part of Yang Wu Huang’s group now. It might be difficult to evade them if they ask you about it while you are outside on the mission. And you will have to go out with them tomorrow again. That would give them more than enough time to plan something.”
Kui Min put on a thoughtful expression and then slowly nodded. “That’s true. Well, actually, I feel like it might not be impossible to evade them. Today, they actually split the group up even though the Elders told us not to.”
Mei Chao Bing raised his brows. “Oh? Did Yang Wu Huang explain why he did that?”
Kui Min gave a wry smile. “Well, I’m not sure if you could call that an explanation. He just led us to some spot and then said that maybe we should ‘swarm out’ to have a look around. He told us not to go too far but there was a while where I couldn’t see him anywhere.”
“Was he the only one that vanished?”
Kui Min shook her head. “No. That Ao Jing and Di Huan Bo were with him. I guess they wanted to talk about something privately.”
Mei Chao Bing nodded. That was indeed the most likely thing. “I guess you didn’t notice anything about that, did you?”
Kui Min shook her head. “No, if I did, I would definitely tell you. But they didn’t speak about it again afterward. Yang Wu Huang also didn’t ask us to split up any more after-the-fact. It’s as if it was a one-time occurrence because the place was special. He didn’t explain why though. If there really was something, then wouldn’t he have done that? Honestly, I don’t even know if he is taking this mission seriously.”
Mei Chao Bing furrowed his brows. It was one thing that Yang Wu Huang was planning something against him. He was pretty sure that he could deal with it. Especially if Song Mu was Well, maybe not on his side but at least against Yang Wu Huang in this matter. And then he was pretty sure that Yuan Lei and Liu Bao Ru would do the same. He didn’t know about those two junior martial brothers but for the time being, he would have to hope that this was enough.
But the matter was a completely different one if Yang Wu Huang endangered the other disciples by not treating his actual task seriously. “I’m afraid there’s nothing that we can do about this. You should tell the Elders though.”
Kui Min shrugged her shoulders. “And what am I going to say?”
“Just the fact that he split up the group and wasn’t in sight anymore together with two of the others will be enough. The Elders likely know that there’s an issue. They wouldn’t make things difficult for you.”
Kui Min nodded. “Could you bring me over to Elder Baili? I don’t want to disturb him on my own.”
Mei Chao Bing nodded and then reached over to pat Yun Bei Fen’s head. “What do you think? Should we all go together?”
Yun Bei Fen wasn’t quite sure how he would be able to help but he still nodded. Anyway, it was alright with him as long as he was with Mei Chao Bing.
