Like A Ray In My Night - 140 She Couldnt Let Them Take Advantage
When the three of them arrived in front of Elder Baili’s study, Kui Min wasn’t quite sure how to behave. Other than her own Master, she had never needed to talk with one of the other Elders one on one. The fact that she basically came to complain about a martial brother of theirs without hard proof didn’t make it any better. She just couldn’t help but feel that what she was doing might be wrong.
Mei Chao Bing didn’t have any inhibitions though. He knew that both Elders were very much aware of the fact that there was something fishy going on with Yang Wu Huang and his group. Otherwise, they probably wouldn’t have split them up and only left Di Huan Bo and Ao Jing next to him while putting everybody else in other groups.
He knocked on the door and then went inside with the other two following behind him after Elder Baili called for them to come in.
The Elder looked up, his brows raising slightly when he saw that Kui Min was with them as well. “Did something happen?”
Mei Chao Bing gave a faint nod. “In a sense.”
Elder Baili motioned for them to sit down but there was only one chair there. Seeing that Mei Chao Bing was the oldest of them, he decided to continue to stand and motioned for Kui Min to take a seat. Anyway, Yun Bei Fen would likely want to stand next to him anyway and not care about sitting. And with how nervous Kui Min was, it might help her calm down if she was able to sit there.
Unfortunately, Kui Min felt even more nervous when she was sitting alone in front of the Elder. She looked back to Mei Chao Bing and Yun Bei Fen as if that could somehow help her calm down.
Mei Chao Bing gave a faint smile when he saw her acting like this. Maybe it was because he had spent so much time with Yun Bei Fen since he emerged from closed-door cultivation but he didn’t feel that her behavior was problematic or got annoyed in any way. He just felt that as the senior, he should be expected to take care of his juniors. Thus, he turned to Elder Baili and explained in her stead. “Junior martial sister Kui just came to inform us that Ao Jing told her that our group would only leave tomorrow. He insinuated that she should go and have a talk with us.”
Elder Baili slightly raised his brows. Ao Jing and Kui Min were in the same group. So they had been out the whole day while Mei Chao Bing and the others had been planning what they wanted to do. He normally shouldn’t know what they intended to do unless he had inquired about it. And if he had There likely was more to the matter than met the eye at first glance. “How did he find out?”
Mei Chao Bing raised his hands in a gesture insinuating that he didn’t know. “Song Mu, probably.”
Baili Chao leaned back, tapping the armrest of his chair. Back when they had chosen which people to put in one group, they decided that Song Mu would be the best fit for Mei Chao Bing’s group among all the people that were following Yang Wu Huang. After all, the two of them had been friends once. While it would definitely be awkward for them to have to work together now, at least there might not be just as much maliciousness from Song Mu’s side as the others might have. But now
Baili Chao didn’t know what to do for a moment but finally couldn’t help but inquire further. “Do you trust him?”
“Song Mu?” Mei Chao Bing fell silent for a moment and then gave a faint smile. “That question is difficult to answer. If this is about trusting him with my life or even my well-being, then I definitely don’t. But I do trust that he wouldn’t harm the others.” Even though his opinion of Song Mu had reached its lowest possible point after he entered Yang Wu Huang’s group back then, he still had to admit that there was something about Song Mu that was not like the others following Yang Wu Huang.
Whatever their own conflict, Song Mu would definitely never pull the others into it. Stabbing him in the back while they were outside That definitely was an option. But allowing something to happen that would also endanger everybody else ? No, he wouldn’t do that. Whatever had become of him, Song Mu wasn’t that type of person.
Elder Baili wasn’t too sure what to make of that but as long as Song Mu didn’t want to cause problems with the others, that was already good enough for the moment. “So maybe he didn’t do this on purpose.”
Mei Chao Bing nodded. “I guess Ao Jing first thought of Song Mu when he wanted to inquire what was going on. He probably didn’t tell him anything so Ao Jing next went to Kui Min, hoping that she would find out something when she came here and then inadvertently spill the beans when he approached her again later on.”
Kui Min widened her eyes, unable to believe what he had just said. While he had said something similar before when they were alone, it hadn’t really registered because she was thinking about other things at the time. Now, her full attention was on Mai Chao Bing’s words though and there was no way not to understand when he put it so plainly. As it turned out, Yang Wu Huang and the others had actually thought that she would sell out Mei Chao Bing and Yun Bei Fen.
Mei Chao Bing glanced at her and smiled. “Don’t take it to heart, junior martial sister Kui. Nobody thinks that you would intentionally do this. I think they just hoped that you might not pay too much attention and just let something slip however small that piece of information might be. It will definitely come in handy for them.”
Kui Min furrowed her brows and lowered her head, trying to think about her conversation with Ao Jing before. Had she said anything that she shouldn’t have? She couldn’t remember anything but she was still unsure. In the future, she had to pay more attention to that! She definitely couldn’t let those guys take advantage of her.
