Like A Ray In My Night - 143 You Cant Leave Me
Mei Chao Bing finally left Elder Baili’s study, going back to the courtyard where Yun Bei Fen and Kui Min were playing around with Xiao Hui. He leaned against the door leading outside, watching the three of them with a smile.
Even though he wasn’t perfectly reconciled with the situation, there were ways to solve it. So for the moment, he should just focus on what was right in front of him. He could keep the people he cared about safe. He just had to do everything he could in that regard.
Yun Bei Fen looked up and his face lit up when he saw Mei Chao Bing standing there. “Mei Chao Bing!” He leaped to his feet and then rushed over, plunging into his arms. “Did you know that Xiao Hui actually had spots?”
Mei Chao Bing reached down, gently combing through Yun Bei Fen’s hair. “No, I never noticed. Did you and junior martial sister Kui just find out about it?”
Yun Bei Fen nodded happily. “Yes, we were just playing around when we noticed. They’re only on his stomach though. So you can’t see them when he’s just scuttling around normally.”
“I see. That must be why we never noticed.”
Yun Bei Fen nodded, still looking at Mei Chao Bing with unblinking eyes as if he was afraid to miss out on anything if he closed them for even just a moment.
Mei Chao Bing glanced over to where Kui Min was still playing around with the spiritual beast, and then leaned down, pecking Yun Bei Fen’s lips. “It’s good you were having fun.”
Yun Bei Fen beamed, and then took Mei Chao Bing’s hand, pulling him over to the other two.
Kui Min looked up, giving him a smile as well. “You’re back. I guess I’ll leave then. The two of you probably still need to prepare quite a few things.” She got up from the ground and nodded at Mei Chao Bing before reaching out and patting Yun Bei Fen’s head. “When you’re out there, you definitely have to pay attention to yourself. Senior martial brother Mei won’t be able to look after you every second. You have to make sure on your own that you are able to come back in one piece.”
Yun Bei Fen nodded even though he actually didn’t doubt that Mei Chao Bing would look after him for every second of the day. After all, they were a couple. Didn’t you pay more attention to the person you were a couple with? At the very least, that was what his third senior martial brother told him.
After Kui Min left, Mei Chao Bing turned to Yun Bei Fen and gripped his shoulders. “What junior martial sister Kui said isn’t completely wrong. We don’t know what will happen out there. Of course, I will make sure that nothing happens to you as long as I’m around. But we also have to take into consideration that something might happen to me and that I wouldn’t be able to help you then. At that time, you have to make sure that you think of yourself first before you think of anybody else, alright?”
Yun Bei Fen’s expression fell when he heard that. “Why would anything happen to you? You’re so strong. You’ll definitely be alright.” He wanted to plunge back into Mei Chao Bing’s arms but this time, Mei Chao Bing didn’t let him. Instead, he held him in place and gave him a grave look.
“I’m strong, yes. But I’m not invincible. There are things like demonic practitioners or some beasts out there, that I might have trouble defeating as well. I could get hurt. I just want you to be prepared for that.”
Yun Bei Fen looked everything but prepared. It wasn’t a wonder. This little bunny had idolized him for so many years. Putting the name ‘Mei Chao Bing’ and the word ‘defeat’ into the same sentence was likely impossible to him. Having to tell him these things also broke Mei Chao Bing’s heart but he just didn’t know what else to do.
Yun Bei Fen wouldn’t always be able to rely on him. Of course, as long as it was possible, he would let him. But he also needed him to understand that there were things in this world that weren’t that easily solved. “I’m just saying what if. Maybe nothing will happen. Maybe we’ll make it out of this without as much as a scratch. But we can’t know for sure. Just keep that in mind.”
He let go of Yun Bei Fen’s shoulders only for Yun Bei Fen to hug his waist tightly. Obviously, his words had scared him more than just a little. Maybe for the first time, he had even the hint of an inkling that there even was such a possibility.
Mei Chao Bing sighed and reached up, patting his back. “It’s alright. I’m not saying that it’s definitely going to happen. I’ll also take care of myself.”
Yun Bei Fen nodded, rubbing his cheek against Mei Chao Bing’s chest. He didn’t want to think about it. Whether it was Mei Chao Bing or his Master and his senior martial brothers, he didn’t want to lose any of them. He tightly gripped onto his robe and then looked up at him. “You can’t leave me alone. My parents already left. You can’t do the same too. I’ll be sad if you do.”
Mei Chao Bing nodded, cupped his cheeks, and then leaned down for another kiss. “If I can help it, I will never leave you.”
Yun Bei Fen pouted when he heard that Mei Chao Bing was still putting a condition before that. “Since we’re a couple now, shouldn’t you be nicer? You should tell me that you will never leave me.”
Mei Chao Bing gave a faint smile and pinched his cheeks. “Because we’re a couple I won’t lie to you. Isn’t that much better?”
Yun Bei Fen still looked sad as if he would have preferred a nice-sounding lie over the actual truth. He lowered his head again, rubbing his forehead against Mei Chao Bing’s chest. “You have to pay a lot of attention to yourself then, alright?”
Mei Chao Bing nodded and hugged him tightly. “I will. Don’t worry, I will.”
