Like A Ray In My Night - 63 A Busy Person
Despite Elder Baili’s fierce attitude when talking, Mei Chao Bing was able to talk quite harmoniously with him when discussing his plan. The Elder listened quietly and nodded his head every now and then, finally agreeing to let matters proceed this way.
for visiting.
Mei Chao Bing couldn’t help but wonder if it could really be this easy. Didn’t the Elder have anything to add? He waited but nothing happened. Apparently, the Elder was indeed alright with this.
Mei Chao Bing heaved a sigh of relief. Even though he had expected more trouble in convincing the Elder, he was also happy that it hadn’t come to that. Right now, they had to act swiftly. Otherwise, if the rumors spread even further, then things would get troublesome. After all, as soon as everybody had heard the original rumor, them giving another account of the story would just seem like trying to cover things up.
Not that he didn’t believe that Yang Wu Huang would try to turn things around like that anyway. But with the Elder helping, it shouldn’t be too difficult to at least let the other disciples have some doubt about this. If everything went well
Mei Chao Bing furrowed his brows. There was still one thing he wasn’t too sure about. “Elder Baili, do you think we should tell Yun Bei Fen beforehand?”
Baili Chao huffed. “As expected, you obviously don’t know that child! You better don’t try anything with him before you haven’t spent at least five years with each other!”
Mei Chao Bing raised his brows. Five years? That was unexpectedly accommodating of him. He would’ve thought that the Elder would add at least one zero for him to make things difficult. Well, he certainly wouldn’t complain about that.
He gave a wry smile nodded. “Of course, I will head the Elder’s teachings. Now Why don’t you think it would be a good idea to inform Yun Bei Fen? Wouldn’t it be beneficial if he could play along?”
Baili Chao harrumphed. “What play along? Do you think that child can play along? He’d just ruined things! No, it’s better you don’t tell him even a single word. That way, he can just be his usual self and not give anything away. Otherwise, people would really think we’re doing a big play.”
Mei Chao Bing nodded. He couldn’t help but think that they were actually doing a big play though. They might be doing a truthful play but still. Just when he wanted to agree and praise the Elder for being wise and having foresight, the door was smashed open and slammed against the wall while a rather disheveled-looking little bunny stormed inside.
“Master! You can’t scold senior martial brother Mei! It’s all my fault!” He rushed over to Mei Chao Bing and clung to his neck, not even bothering to make sense of the situation first.
Mei Chao Bing raised his brows. It seemed his little bunny had somehow woken up and noticed that he was gone and then figured that his Master was bullying him in his study? He certainly was quite imaginative Looking at it from this perspective, Elder Baili might be right that it wouldn’t be a good idea to inform him of their plan beforehand. If they did Who knew if he wouldn’t get too much into his role and mess things up?
Elder Baili blew his top when he saw his youngest disciple react like this. “Scold him? What are you even talking about?! As if I’d scold him! I’m a busy person. I don’t have time to scold random people!”
Yun Bei Fen looked at his Master and blinked his eyes, still holding onto Mei Chao Bing. To be honest, looking at his Master, he felt that he looked quite idle. And what was with calling senior martial brother Mei random? He wasn’t random at all!
Mei Chao Bing glanced at his little bunny’s face and could see that things weren’t too good. If he said something bad now, who knew if the Elder wouldn’t really get angry and refuse to help with the plan that he had already agreed to? He couldn’t let that happen!
He gently pulled Yun Bei Fen onto his lap and brushed his hair back, trying to smooth out the black strands. “You were thinking too much. I just woke up early and didn’t want to disturb you so I went and had a chat with your Master. There’s so much that I’m able to learn from him. Elder Baili has really opened my eyes.”
This would’ve been really good if Yun Bei Fen hadn’t had such a look of doubt on his face. It was as if he wanted to hammer home the point that he didn’t believe that his Master was able to teach his beloved senior martial brother anything. Obviously, Mei Chao Bing was so great. What was there that his Master could teach him.?
Mei Chao Bing sighed. “Anyway, we had a nice chat and you don’t have to be afraid at all. It’s still nice to see that you worry about me so much though.”
Yun Bei Fen perked up at that and didn’t bother about what his Master had done or not done anymore. It was good as long as his senior martial brother was happy. And he seemed to be. Thus he happily snuggled up against his chest and closed his eyes. Mn, being with senior martial brother Mei was still the best!
Mei Chao Bing smiled and patted Yun Bei Fen’s back. “Alright, since you’re awake, let’s go brush your hair and then we should head out. Since we finally arrived in the border region we should go and take part in the mission too.”
Yun Bei Fen sat up straight and finally turned back to his Master, looking at him with wide eyes. “Master, your promise still counts, doesn’t it?”
Baili Chao raised his brows. “What promise?” He honestly couldn’t remember. This brat had run off so long ago, he couldn’t expect him to still know whatever he had promised before that, could he?
Yun Bei Fen furrowed his brows and pursed his lips, looking very much like his Master had slighted him. “How can that be! You clearly promised me that I could do the mission together with senior martial brother Mei! You wouldn’t want to go back on your word now, would you?”
Elder Baili’s lips twitched. Right, naturally, it was about that Mei Chao Bing. Why had he expected anything else? Wasn’t it always about him? Well, there was nothing he could do anymore. His little disciple had already been utterly lost.
He sighed and waved at the two of them. “Of course not. Since I promised, then that’s how it will be. The two of you should head out now. Mei Chao Bing is right that you shouldn’t waste any more time.”
Yun Bei Fen didn’t need to be told twice. He jumped to his feet and grabbed Mei Chao Bing’s hand, trying to pull him to his feet. “Did you hear that? Didn’t I tell you my Master was the greatest? If he promises something, then he’ll definitely keep to his words.”
Mei Chao Bing nodded. “Mn, Elder Baili is certainly the best.
The Elder already wanted to puff up his chest at these words when Yun Bei Fen leaned down and kissed Mei Chao Bing. “Of course, you’re much better!”
Elder Baili’s expression turned as dark as the bottom of a pot. “You! Go and complete your mission now! Don’t you dare come back before you haven’t done something useful today!”
The little bunny only blinked his eyes. Why was his Master angry? Hadn’t he just praised him? He really couldn’t understand him sometimes.
