Lines Crossed - Volume 1 Chapter 42 Snappy
I raised an eyebrow at him.
“You are going to go home in the state you are in right now? You can barely walk.”
“And that’s my choice.”
He sighed. “It’s the wrong choice.”
“Please, please, can you let me take you to get checked out?”
I watched his face.
‘But if I stay he could ask questions If you go with him you will also get a free ride home instead of having to take a taxi. Just avoid talking with him as much as possible. I mean, what’s the harm? Maybe he will think you ran into each other by coincidence. Yeah, it will be fine. Besides, you need a rest.’
“Okay.”
“You’ll go?” he looked at me slightly shocked.
“What did you not want me to say yes?”
“No I did, okay, over here.” he motioned to his car but didn’t let go of my arm and instead started dawdling beside me.
I winced again as the pain ached hard in my leg.
He let go of my hand, slid in closer and wrapped an arm around my back and shoulder to support me.
I stopped limping and turned to look at him, his face inches from my own. My heart beat faster, the smell of his skin, so close to mine, the soft coif of cologne that smells like chestnuts and vanilla. An odd smell from another human being, but it smelled warm, fragrant and earthy.
My eyes fluttered and he stared into my eyes.
“I am going to lean you against my body, only for a minute, it’s in order to stabilize you and ease your pain a little. I promise okay.”
“Uh, huh, I know.” I mumbled out stupidly.
Because here was this beautiful man, telling me to lean on him.
He smiled and the large billowing dark pink shirt opened for a moment and a silver chain slipped out from inside it.
I stared down to look at it but the shirt opened up enough that I could see down to the beginnings of the well-defined abs I knew hid inside there.
I cleared my throat and quickly looked forward again.
We hobbled together to the passenger side of his car. He hit the keys and the car made a little noise before unlocking; he opened the door.
“I am going to help you get in, unless you think you can do it yourself?”
I flushed.” I can.” I said bravely, then tried to twist into the car with my left leg that refused to bend.
I whimpered.
He circled his arms around my waist so that we were nose to nose as if it was a normal thing to do.
With how many times we had done it already, maybe it is.
“How can I help you get in without hurting you?” He surprised me asking me first before just doing.
I grumbled with embarrassment. “Um, right So… So, um, come closer so that we can put our chins on each other’s shoulders, then slide your hand down my back, then we twist together so I am aligned with the car. Then just gently with your arms press my body back until I am in a seated position in the air and lower me down.
“Oh, okay I can do that.” he stated then hugged me carefully and followed through.Pressing me inside the vehicle, one hand on my back gently guiding me forward the other reaching under my leg to sit me down.
I groaned in pain but was finally seated in the car.
He released his hand from under my leg and looked up at me. His voice was husky and warm.
“Was that alright? Did I hurt you at all?”
I nodded, since answering him would mean my breath would pour across his face, his necklace dangled in front of me as he stayed leaning forward, he slid his arm out from behind me and focused on the belt. In a moment I was all buckled up.
“How does that feel, do you feel secure? Safe?”
“Secure yes, it’s snappy.” I pulled the belt lightly, like an idiot. He smiled then pulled his head out of the car, put my bag on my lap, closed my door, and walked around.
‘Gosh, what is wrong with you? Get around one mesmerizingly beautiful guy, and you ramble like an idiot. Snappy? Who says snappy?’
Mark started the car and drove off.
I stared down at my bag and opened it up carefully, then pulled out my phone.
The screen was cracked, but I checked it and it turned on just fine. I texted Hyeri telling her I was heading home, since I had some things to figure out and not to wait up for me.
I turned a few times to say something to Mark, but it seemed he was internally preoccupied with something. So I shut my mouth. We arrived at the hospital in silence and he pulled up to the front, opened the door and walked inside quickly then came back out wheeling a wheelchair.
“Do you want help to get out too?” he asked. I nodded no then pulled myself up with my arms which were barely hurting anymore.
I got into the chair with some difficulty and he wheeled me inside.
He went to the desk and immediately came back with a lovely old nurse who led us to the elevator. We rode the elevator as soon as it came. The old lady smiled at us sweetly.
The door binged open and she bowed slightly.
“I can take the chair from here. If you want to go grab something to drink or something while we wait for the tests to be done.”
He looked at me, his face scrunched up with concern as if he let me out of his sight I would disappear again.
“It’s okay, I will be fine. Besides, you know where this room is. It’s not like you can lose me.” I gestured down at my leg.
He smirked. “Okay, if you really think you will be okay.”
“I will lead you to the tests now okay.” She said sweetly and we left Mark standing in the halls.
She dropped me off at a door where another person took me in.
