Lines Crossed - Volume 1 Chapter 59 Body
“Take care of your body?” I meeped.
“Yes, my body.” He agreed, naturally, as if what he was saying wasn’t the most ludicrous thing I had ever heard.
“You seem to have a fundamental understanding of the body and how it works, and you said you were going to become a nurse at one time.”
“So, I assume you know how all the muscles and bones work.”
“Ah, yes of course.”
“Then what would be the problem with it.”
“I”
I gulped.
“You want me to take care of your body As in.” I looked him up and down, slowly.
His eyes slit as he watched me, carefully, observing my reaction, and then quickly figuring out what I had assumed.
“Hey, not like that. I am not asking you to touch me wherever I want.” He said quickly, covering the situation.
“Ah, ah, yes, of course, you wouldn’t need that” I trailed off slowly, embarrassed at how I thought he had been implying he wanted to be touched daily.
“I would only ask when I actually need it. I do actually get hurt when another human being is flinging their body against mine full force and smashing me into the ground, you know.”
“Ah, yes! Of course, that does hurt a lot.”
“I remember how much it hurt when hitting into you. So I know falling on another person doesn’t feel good Your abs make for a hard landing.” I agreed.
“My abs? Make for a hard what?” He said, blinking at me.
“Ah Um.” I sputtered stupidly.
“So do you want me working over here? Or here?” I asked, quickly changing the subject as I walked over to the couch in the room. The couch; sat off to the right and in front of the desk so that if I sat, I had no place else to look but at Mark as he worked.
“Or Neither..” I said slowly, unsure of what to do as he sat staring at me so blatantly.
He smirked.
“Just sit there for a little bit while I work.”
“I have to finish something up, then I have more to discuss.’
“Just sit?” Ah, okay.” I agreed, then walked over to the couch and sat down like an obedient puppy.
‘Sitting here? For how long everyday does he want me to do this? Every day just staring at him?…”
I opened my mouth to ask a question when the loud sound of a woman shouting on the other side of the doors caused me to pause.
‘Who is that? Is my being here going to create a problem?’ I looked over at Mark, but he looked completely relaxed.
“Is he crazy?”
I looked up, startled as the doors flew open, and Miran barged into the room, talking loudly in anger.
“Yah, what kinda crazy dog does he think he is. I wish you guys were there!”
“Jaemin, Mark, stop letting Seungwoo bully me!”
“I swear if he”
“I don’t ever” She huffed to angry to finish her thoughts as they spilled out of her.
“That man is a neanderthal. I have never been more outraged in my life!”
“In my defense, you chase after him begging to be punished.’
“I do not! As if I would ever.” She started saying, then noticed my reflection in the mirror next to Mark.
“Oh” She stopped seeing Mark wasn’t alone and smiled.
“The girl from the paper? Scandal girl?”
“Wait! Awesome!”
“Are you really dating someone Mark?”
Mark scoffed and looked displeased.
“As if.” Miran ignored his answer and walked over to me.
“Hello. My name is Kang Miran.” She held out her hand for me to take.
“And you are?”
“Ah, My name is Mina Taylor.” I started, then paused as she plopped down beside me on the little two-seater couch.
“Hi, Mina, how did you become friends with my brother? Ooh, Mark, and Mina sound cute together.”
“When did you two meet?”
“No, actually, I want to know how did you two meet?”
“Ah, wait, are you really dating?” She asked sweetly. Her tone and manners were gentle, while her questions were inquisitive and excited.
“Um.” I laughed as I tried to figure out which one to answer first.
“None of your business,” Mark interjected.
Miran pouted.
“Now that’s not fair! I really want to know the answer, Mark. That’s why I didn’t ask you, I asked her.”
She turned back towards me and smiled softly.
“Are you?”
“We really are not dating,” I said quickly, the answer shooting out of me so quickly, I turned to look at Mark to make sure he wasn’t offended. He smirked but didn’t say anything.
“I am going to work here. Not here, here, but on Mark. I mean, I am his body. His physical therapist. Ah, I mean physiotherapist.” I groaned and looked down realizing I had stumbled far too much over the words to make it believable.
“I’ll just stop talking now,” I mumbled.
Miran chuckled.
“I like her. She is a terrible liar.” Miran chuckled.
I stared at her surprised. ‘I mean, I am, but it’s so weird to have someone just look at me and tell me that as soon as I meet them.’
‘Normally, I don’t lie to someone the moment I meet them either. But really, these are extenuating circ.u.mstances.’
Miran seemed to sense some of my inner turmoil and pat my hand gently.
“It’s a good thing, dear. Around us, sometimes, we really need transparent people. That way, it can be a little easier to trust them. This goes even more so for people like my brother. I know for a fact Mr. Jaemin over, there is too much of a stick to trust anyone who isn’t a little see-through glass like you.”
I chuckled nervously.
“Anyway,” Miran affirmed quickly.
“You look like you could eat something, and I am starving.”
“You are always hungry,” Mark interjected.
“That”
“Is beside the point,” Miran stated softly.
Mark chuckled.
“I am going to take this pretty Unnie for lunch since it is past lunch and I bet you had her sitting out there for more than an hour.” She gave him a look that dared him to say otherwise.
“You had her sit in that boring, empty room for no reason other than for you to peruse over some boring doc.u.ments in here,” Miran stated, pointedly.
Miran stood up and pulled me up, still holding my hand. I stood up so as not to hurt her.
She let go of my hand.
“I am going to go get the car pulled around. There is this great little place nearby, I will have Felix take us there. The food is really delicious. They have this amazing sandwich, I think you will enjoy it.” Miran walked out of the room, and the door swung shut behind her.
I stood there, unsure what to do since Mark stared down at something on his desk, paying very little attention to me.
“Um, Mark”
“Mark looked up. “Oh, still here? I thought you left with Miran.”
“Ah Right.”
“Then, if you are all done with me?” I asked, trying not to let my nerves show.
“You can go for lunch, I can text you when I am done here and we can meet up and discuss living arrangements and other stuff.”
“Living what?” I stated.
“Moving in with me, of course.”
