When Mu Jianyu found out about the scandals filling the news, his first reaction was to check if there’s a possibility that Ying could recognize him as one of Lin Meirong’s lovers. He tried to gauge Ying’s reaction as she scrolled through the pictures, he was feeling anxious even though his face was purposely blurred by the photographer.
“Ying, let’s go. This isn’t a safe place right now.” He told her, trying to convince her to flee from the commotion that was about to happen soon.
Li Chuntao frowned and placed her phone back into her clutch bag and allowed him to lead her outside of the assembly hall.
“Jianyu, I don’t understand. Didn’t Miss Lin say she is in a relationship and the father of her child will marry her? How come the news portrays her as a succubus who sleeps with married men?” She asked him.
They went to the car park and Mu Jianyu unlocked his car before letting his wife slide onto the passenger seat. He was aware of how his phone was constantly vibrating in his pocket. The Xi family must have wanted him to deal with Lin Meirong’s issue as soon as possible.
Li Chuntao watched with curiosity as Mu Jianyu answered his phone outside the car so she wouldn’t be able to hear their conversation. He occasionally looked at her and gestured for her to wait for a moment.
‘Heh, do you really think you can hide everything from me Mu Jianyu? Let’s see how long you can keep up with your lies.’
After minutes of waiting, Mu Jianyu was done and quickly sat behind the steering wheel driving back to his apartment complex.
“Will Miss Lin be alright?” She asked worriedly, but her eyes showed a glint of excitement in it.
Mu Jianyui shook his head, not knowing how to answer his wife. Ah, even towards his mistress, Ying was so kind to worry about Lin Meirong and this made him feel more uncomfortable than he already was.
‘Ying, we don’t deserve your kindness,’
“I don’t know Ying, but we’ll try our best to pacify the situation. She might need to hide from the public’s eyes and avoid making more trouble in the future,” he tried to reassure her.
Li Chuntao faced him and gave him a slight pout. Something Ying used to do when she wanted to get a favor from someone. Li Chuntao felt silly by doing this trick but she couldn’t just let him go without feeding his guilt.
“Jianyu, would this mean that you’re going to work late into the night again? I thought you promised you’ll try to keep your work within working hours?”
She had complained a few weeks ago about his hectic schedule and how he wasn’t always at home ever since he worked at Redux Entertainment. Of course, this was a good opportunity for Li Chuntao to guilt-trip him.
She might be able to get a few small projects in the future, but that would involve her being naked for pornography. It’s impossible to clear her name now with the amount of hate she was getting from the public.
“Ying, please try to understand. This is hard for me too. It’s not that I don’t want to go home and be with you at this time, but the company is facing a huge problem. You should know by now what could happen if we let the negative news hit the company and Lin Meirong.” Mu Jianyu tried to reason out. If he could, he would rather stay with his wife than deal with his mistress’ problems.
He took a quick glance at the woman sitting in his passenger seat and saw his wife pouting and looking outside the window as if the scenery outside was better to look at than him right now. Another car was trailing behind them, no doubt it was Yu Lou.
“Ying…” He sighed dejectedly. Did he make a wrong decision by accepting the Xi family’s proposal to work for them?
“I know.. I just thought there’s always a distraction between as. You’re barely at home and you spend more time at work than with me. Say, Jianyu, was this the reason we considered divorce back then? Because you didn’t have time with your wife anymore?” She bombarded him with questions. “Am I just an obligation that was keeping you away from work?” Li Chuntao pretended to sob.
Mu Jianyu went speechless. Ying never talked as much as this before. At least, on the bright side, Ying wasn’t giving him a cold treatment anymore.
“It’s not like that, Ying. We had problems before, I admit, but didn’t we agree to try to work it out? Don’t you feel anything for me?” Every day that passed by where he couldn’t touch her, couldn’t kiss her was like torture for him. Even a simple hug would cause Ying to flinch and shiver from his touch.
Li Chuntao remained silent, hiding the grin on her face as she let Mu Jianyu feel helpless by his predicament. It was only when they arrived at the apartment complex did she look at him after she stepped out of his car as he opened the door for her.
“Go now, everyone’s waiting for you. Don’t worry about me. Yu Lou is here to accompany me,” she told him, clearly suggesting to him to get out of her sight now.
“Ying, don’t stay up too late. Go to bed. Don’t wait for me as the meeting may take time to end.” Mu Jianyu told her, which she only responded with a nod before turning her back on him, with Yu Lou following closely behind her.
Mu Jianyu didn’t leave yet and watched his wife’s retreating form. He pinched the bridge of his nose and cursed inwardly. He shouldn’t have involved himself with Lin Meirong. All of these wouldn’t have happened if he resisted the temptation.
Li Chuntao inwardly scoffed and rolled her eyes. It was disgusting for her to watch Mu Jianyu trying hard to be a doting husband to her. Had he been this doting towards Ying and didn’t fall in Lin Meirong’s charm, she was sure the circumstances right now wouldn’t be as bad as it was.
Yu Lou pushed the button for their floor and let the silence engulf the two of them. She was already getting used to how Miss Chuntao spends her days without talking much and always reading in her spare time.
When they reached Young Master Shen’s door, Yu Lou noticed how Li Chuntao’s expression changed as she looked away and her steps slightly slowed down. It had been two weeks and neither of them even saw Shen Zichen’s shadow. No calls or messages for Li Chuntao.
Their fight must really be that bad, Yu Lou thought to herself but she hoped that Young Master Shen would try to make a move to make peace with her Miss Chuntao soon.
