Little Miss Witch: Revenge Of The Tainted Angel - 166 The Joke is On You 2
Before Mu Jianyu went home, he received a phone call from Lin Meirong, informing him about her meeting with Li Xiuying that afternoon. She insisted that Ying was lying, that she was faking her amnesia.
“She’s lying to you. Why can’t you see that? Your wife remembers everything,” Lin Meirong told him over the phone.
Mu Jianyu was momentarily stunned at her words, wondering if she was telling the truth or not. Does Ying truly remember him? Did she not forget what he’d done to her? Or was it yet another lie from this woman?
“Stop this already, Lin Meirong. Whatever you say or do, I won’t leave my wife for you,”
“Even if she is lying to you? I’m telling you that she’s playing with you! Mu Jianyu, why can’t you see that she’s lying to you? She was unlike what people thought of her. She isn’t a kind woman. She’s heartless!”
“Shut your mouth!” Mu Jianyu snarled at her over the phone. “Don’t say that about my wife! She’s not like that. You don’t know anything about my wife!” He shouted back.
“And you do?” Lin Meirong laughed incredulously. “Stop being blind and see that your wife is no angel! She’s taking advantage of her accident to keep you by her side, to torment you. She won’t let you go because she wants to take revenge on you, on us! Li Xiuying is doing this on purpose!” She countered.
Mu Jianyu swiped a hand over his face as he paced around his office, considering Lin Meirong’s words. What if she was telling the truth this time? But did it really matter?
“No matter what you say to me, I won’t leave her.” He made up his mind. It was his sin that he needed to pay and repent, “Even if you’re telling the truth, I’ll accept everything. Ying can hurt me, she can do anything she wants to. It’s her right. Nothing will change.”
And now, he was home. Back in his empty apartment, waiting for his wife to come home, Mu Jianyu felt like waiting for a ticking bomb about to explode.
But what if she really forgot everything? If he confronted her now, wouldn’t that mean he was willingly coming clean to her?
“Ying, please.” He pleaded. He wasn’t sure how Ying was taking the stupid revelation Lin Meirong did. He had no idea where she was and she wasn’t picking up her phone.
Ying must be devastated by now. She must be hurting badly now and it was all his fault.
The sky was already dark outside and the snow was starting to fall again. Although he knew that Yu Lou and Su Ling would keep her safe, he still couldn’t help but worry.
The front door opened and Li Chuntao came in with Yu Lou. Mu Jianyu immediately ran towards the door to meet his wife. He looked at his wife and his heart clenched inside his chest with the way her shoulder slumped, her head hanging low.
“We’re home…” she muttered before walking past him towards the living area.
“Ying, where have you been?” Mu Jianyu followed Li Chuntao and saw her sitting on the couch with a troubled expression on her face. He remained standing a couple of feet away from her, not knowing what to do to console her.
“I… I need to be alone. I never expected my day would turn out to be like this.” Li Chuntao breathed out. “I was waiting for you to come home and a woman called me to meet her.” She lifted her head and looked at him straight in the eyes. Mu Jianyu could see fear and uncertainty clouding her eyes.
“I don’t know anymore, Jianyu. I’m confused. I don’t know if I should believe her or not.”
Mu Jianyu then decided to take a seat across her. She was definitely talking about Lin Meirong. What could have that woman told Ying to make her feel this way?
“Jianyu, please tell me the truth,” Her eyes started to brim with tears, “Miss Lin told me you two were in a relationship before my accident, that you are the one who fathered her child.” Her tone was almost pleading. “Didn’t you tell me that you love me? That we are in love with each other? If you love me, why would you cheat on me and pretend like nothing happened? Or is she telling the truth?”
Li Chuntao covered her eyes with both hands and wailed, breaking Mu Jianyu’s heart. His wife, his angel… she shouldn’t be crying like this. She should be smiling, should always be happy, and yet he knew he was the reason for her tears today.
“I didn’t want to ask or confront you before, because I’m afraid to face and hear the truth.” Li Chuntao continued before pulling out a thin envelope she’d tucked between the table where a stack of magazines was placed.
She placed it on the coffee table and tried to wipe her tears with the back of her hands.
Mu Jianyu eyed the envelope and with slightly trembling hands, he took it and unraveled the tie to open it. Inside, pictures of him and Lin Meirong filled his sight. Someone was following them, so the person was able to take clear shots of him and Lin Meirong as they fought near the window of her bedroom.
“Ying… these…”
How was he supposed to explain all of these? It was an evidence he cannot easily refute or deny.
“I received these a week ago.” Li Chuntao lowered her head and ran her fingers through her hair in frustration, while her tears continued to fall. The pain of betrayal was on her face.
“I want to believe you, Jianyu. I really do, but how can I do it if you’re constantly lying to me?” She asked him helplessly.
“Ying, please let me explain…I…”
“You what? That you wanted to hide this from me? That you didn’t intend to impregnate that woman? Have I been a bad wife to you? Was there something wrong with me that you didn’t like? Am I not beautiful enough? Not sexy enough? Am I really that bad in bed that you took a liking to a loose woman?”
Mu Jianyu desperately wanted to hold her but Li Chuntao wouldn’t allow him to do so.
“No, Ying. That’s not it. It’s not your fault,” he said in despair. “I’m sorry, I’m really sorry. Please forgive me. Please let me try to become a better husband to you,” he pleaded. He threw himself in front of her, kneeling down for her forgiveness. His hand holding hers as he looked at her face.
His affair with Lin Meirong shouldn’t have happened. His wife shouldn’t be shedding tears because of him.
Ying should slap him, should yell at him. Anything if it could somehow lessen the pain he’d inflicted on her.
“But didn’t you promise me… promised me you’ll love and cherish me? How could you have forgotten? You want another chance? Then how about my pain?”
Li Chuntao continued to shed tears, delivering the unspoken words that her twin sister didn’t manage to say to and ask her cheating husband.
“You know I would try to understand you, to try to make this work with you… but Jianyu… to actually make her pregnant? How could you do that to me?”
