“Ying, please calm down.” Mu Jianyu begged her. He could see the hurt and frustration in her eyes, which made him feel guiltier than he already was. He knew that his wife wouldn’t take this easily once she found out, but seeing her like this broke his heart.
“Calm down? How can I be calm knowing you betrayed me?” Her round teary eyes stared back at him with disgust. “Should I congratulate you? You’re going to be a father!” She said with sarcasm, surprising Mu Jianyu, Ying had never talked to him like this before.
Did he turn her into this type of person? His angel was now tainted with his sins. What had he done?!
What was he thinking when he allowed Lin Meirong to continue bothering him after his drunken mistake with her?
For whom did he betray and hurt Ying for? He casted her aside for a woman who only saw his value as a monetary gain. There was no love between him and Lin Meirong at all.
What was he thinking when he allowed himself to sleep with her the second time, while Ying was waiting worriedly for him to come home?
“No, Ying. I know now that everything’s my fault.” Mu Jianyu didn’t know how to convince her to stay at this marriage anymore. He didn’t think he would be able to endure it if Ying gave up on him.
If he could turn back the time, he would make sure to avoid Lin Meirong the moment their paths crossed. All could he do now was say sorry. He had no excuses for doing such things to his wife. He could only hope that Ying would at least give him a chance to become a better husband.
He regretted everything now but he also didn’t know how to fix the damages he’d done. However, how would they be able to start a new life when another was about to come from his betrayal?
“Ying, please. I’m so sorry! I’m so sorry!” He couldn’t say anything to Ying but sorry.
Li Chuntao chuckled and shook her head. Seeing her brother-in-law groveling for forgiveness was quite amusing.
Too bad Ying wasn’t able to see him looking pathetic like this. She could already imagine how her twin sister would frown upon seeing the scene before turning her nose away in disgust, refusing to look at Mu Jianyu’s pathetic state.
“Do you think a simple sorry would be able to fix everything? Do you even have any idea how much you ruined my impression of you? I know now… so this is why we were about to divorce back then.” She paused, her mind filled with Ying’s grievances.
The revenge took time, but she was finally able to deliver it. As Mu Jianyu begged for forgiveness, he still hadn’t realised that the woman in front of him wasn’t even his wife. However, Li Chuntao wasn’t quite done yet. It wasn’t time to let him know about his wife’s tragic end.
Anyway, that wasn’t her problem. Mu Jianyu should have expected Ying’s retribution sooner or later, the only difference was she was the demon who would deliver it and not the angel he knew.
“Why won’t you say anything? Did the cat bite your tongue now? Didn’t you hear my question? How could you do that to me?” Li Chuntao persisted, but how could he answer her when it rendered him speechless?
She was asking him questions that Ying had been asking herself during his betrayal. Shouldn’t he know how to explain himself by now? All of those reasons he had for choosing Lin Meirong were suddenly thrown to the wind as Mu Jianyu looked at his wife’s face.
The day Mu Jianyu started his affair with Lin Meirong was the day he regretted the most. He lowered his head not knowing what to say to his wife. He knew whatever he said now wouldn’t be enough to convince her to stay, but he wasn’t ready to leave her yet.
The thought of Ying abandoning him… turning her back on him was terrifying. He couldn’t imagine his life without her, couldn’t imagine waking up knowing he’d lost her.
“I see. You see if you have a problem with me, you should have told me so. You shouldn’t have lied to me. I know now why my family was hesitant to let me move in with you. So this is what you’ve been doing to me all along? I must be really stupid back then.”
Still, Mu Jianyu couldn’t say anything in defense. Nothing could be said that can make Ying believe in him anymore. Nothing he could do to take back what Li Chuntao had lost.
“Is this because I couldn’t give you a child?” Li Chuntao raised the assumption that people had about Ying. A barren woman, which Ying wasn’t. It was unfair to blame her for her husband’s actions.
When he heard this question from her, Mu Jianyu’s whole body trembled and he raised his head to look at her face in shock.
“So I’m right? It was because I couldn’t give you a child. Why?” She questioned him.
Mu Jianyu lowered his gaze and clenched his fists on his side. How hard was it for him to admit this? Wasn’t this what he’d been telling himself when he wanted to divorce Ying before?
“Because I wanted a happy family and not a perfect wife,” He admitted in a low voice, but Li Chuntao heard him clearly.
This wasn’t something Li Chuntao expected to hear from Mu Jianyu and she was stunned into silence. She wasn’t expecting him to admit it easily. Was Ying truly too perfect in his opinion? Could he see how Ying was also flawed with her indecision that cost her not only her happiness but her own life as well?
‘I see… so his inferiority complex to Ying has caused him to turn his attention to the other woman.’
Still, it was ridiculous to blame her twin sister for the failure of their marriage. Mu Jianyu should have a talk with Ying if he was having issues.
“Ying, I repent for that mistake every day. You don’t know much guilt I’m feeling till this day. Please forgive me!”
Li Chuntao ceased her crying and her lips quivered in indignation. Wasn’t it too late for him to ask for it? Ying was already gone. No matter what he does or what he says, Ying would never be able to see or hear any of it.
“Forgive you? Never. Mu Jianyu, this is the end of us! Since you’ve already got what you wanted from Lin Meirong, why don’t you two continue lying to yourselves and leave me alone!” Was her parting words before she left him kneeling on the floor and called Yu Lou’s name.
Mu Jianyu remained in his position, stunned. He couldn’t believe all of this was happening and just when he thought it couldn’t get any worse, Li Chuntao delivered the final blow before leaving with Yu Lou.
“Mu Jianyu, I want to divorce. Please give me back my freedom,” Li Chuntao’s voice was even and devoid of emotions.
