Little Miss Witch: Revenge Of The Tainted Angel - Chapter 220
Two weeks after Li Chuntao met Mu Jianyu and confessed everything about Ying’s death and her pretense, her condition started to improve each day. She stopped groveling over her sister’s death and paid more attention to her newborn baby.
Shen Zichen was glad that the Li Chuntao he knew was starting to come back to them and hoped that it would be for the better. His wife had stopped having nightmares and was able to peacefully sleep through the night.
He was relieved that every time he looked at her, Li Chuntao was healthier and happier. These days, especially whenever she was with their daughter, her smiles were genuine and at ease. They spoke only a little of what transpired during her conversation with Mu Jianyu, and Shen Zichen was fine with that, as long as his wife didn’t dwell on Ying’s death anymore. He was more than grateful that she chose to move on with him and Xiulin.
Since then, Li Chuntao had easily taken the role of being a mother to their child and took every chance to spoil their Little Xiulin. She seemed perfectly happy to spend time with her and Shen Zichen wondered if she was starting to ignore him in favor of their daughter.
Despite this, Shen Zichen wondered if she was truly moving on and wasn’t bothered by her guilt and grief anymore. He knew it wasn’t easy for someone like Li Chuntao to admit and wear her heart on her sleeve. She tends to keep what she truly felt to herself. Wasn’t this one of the reasons why it took them years before they admitted their feelings to each other?
After submitting his resignation to the hospital, Shen Zichen didn’t forget to drop by his parent’s home at Imperial Residences to talk with his father and younger sister, Shen Lingqing. Since he and Li Chuntao decided to migrate overseas, there were things he needed to settle before they left.
“You don’t have to apologize to us, Zichen,” Madam Shen patted his shoulder and smiled. “Your father and I understand why you need to go with Chuntao. As long as you don’t forget to call us once in a while, we will be fine.”
“There’s nothing keeping you here, Zichen.” His father, who was standing near the huge window of the study, said to him. “Your siblings are all grown up and you’ve done your part as their eldest brother. You don’t have to look after them like you used to. You should prioritize your own family.”
Shen Yi eyed his son over his shoulder and gave him a small smile. Who would have thought that the young scaredy boy he and Lu Xinyi adopted years ago would grow up so soon? For him and Lu Xinyi, it only felt like yesterday when they welcomed Zichen and Yuyan into their household.
“That’s right, Zi gege. As for the company, you don’t need to worry about it. I can manage.” Shen Lingqing assured her elder brother. Since Shen Zichen owned a percentage of shares in SY Holdings, it only made sense that he would be involved in their family business.
“I’m not worried about that, Qingqing. I trust your judgement.” Shen Zichen smiled at his sister. Shen Lingqing probably didn’t know that he owed her so much, he’d already lost count of how many times his younger sister had saved his ass.
He should be the one responsible for her wellbeing, but Shen Lingqing was too capable on her own. This made Shen Zichen think that she’d taken after their father a lot. He could only hope that in the future, he would be able to settle his debts with her and help her when the time comes.
After exchanging some words with his parents and sister, Shen Zichen decided to drive straight home, knowing that his wife and daughter were waiting for his return. Truthfully, when he married Li Chuntao, he hadn’t thought of being a father again this soon. Especially after finding out that he lost his chance to be a father to Li Zirui, their firstborn.
Thankfully, he knew how to deal with babies and young children, courtesy of his prior experience with his younger siblings. When his mother gave birth to Qingqing and Lingtian, Shen Zichen took it to himself to look after them whenever their parents were too busy with work.
However, unlike her aunt and uncle, it seems like Little Xiulin wanted his and Chuntao’s undivided attention. Even when she was asleep she would require her parents’ presence near her.
Shen Zichen pulled his car in the driveway and stepped down, taking the packed lunch and meals his mother insisted for him to bring home. He shook his head in amus_e_m_e_nt. His mother was still the same as always, wanting to make sure that her four children were being fed well with good food and were not skipping their meals.
Li Chuntao narrowed her eyes to her bodyguards.
“What do you mean he’s dead?” She questioned the two of them.
Shen Zichen carefully dropped the bags on the nearby table and hurried to his wife’s side worriedly. What could have happened this time?
“Who’s dead?” He asked curiously as he alternated his eyes from her to her bodyguards. He wanted to know what had caused his wife to be on the edge again. He hadn’t seen her like this since her meeting with Mu Jianyu weeks ago.
It was Su Ling who answered his question.
“Young Master Shen, we received a verified report that Mu Jianyu was found dead this morning. Witnesses said that he committed suicide yesterday by jumping from the same bridge where Miss Ying’s accident happened.”
