Living With An Immortal Dragon Soul - Chapter 19 Exodus
When she looked up Theresa could see a blinding light originating from her clan’s village. This meant that her father met an adversary who forced him to show what he had learned from that old light wizard apprentice.
It was a fortunate encounter for both parties. The old man had someone who could inherit his wisdom while he lived his last days in peace and the chief who was a young man back then could learn to see the beauty of magic. When he was given the orb it didn’t glow in a variety of colors. Instead it glowed with the brightest shade of white. He seemed to become a prodigy if he could delve in the magic of light, but alas shortly after the young man’s father died and he had to assume the title of chief and guard his brethren. He couldn’t leave his village for long times because he would be the last defence in case of intruders. To become a true wizard he had had to attend a school of magic or, at the very least travel around to get a more varied and profound background on magic. Thus the prodigy could only use the three books about light magic he inherited from the old apprentice.
After all these years he was still an apprentice but one who had completely understood his spells. Sadly for him he hadn’t used them in combat before which caused him to be hit by the enemy’s lightning.
Theresa knew about her father’s abilities but she had never seen him using such as spell. His spells were mostly of supportive nature but this light reeked of destruction.
All units, we go back immediately” she shouted Fang! Claw! Mount up we don’t have time to lose”
The next second she sat atop one of her direwolves while the two other ones were ready to be mounted as well. As soon as the three of them were ready the direwolves started sprinting towards the village while the were left in the dust although they were trying to keep up with them.
Forbidden light.”
These words still echoed in my head while I was lost in a world of white. I felt better than before now and stood up but this blinding light seemed all encompassing and robbing me of my senses. I could feel nothing except for the bonds with my familiars. All of them were more or less unharmed and Liz and Little Racer’s health seemed to be slowly restored by the light as well.
I couldn’t talk but Drake was still very active in my head Val, do you know what this was? It wasn’t just a normal spell. The chief used something I thought wasn’t something humans could hope to achieve. It was not simply a light elemental spell but the nature of light. Only beings of light should be able to unleash this spell.’ He seemed to fell my confusion.
In the age of the supreme beasts there were many elemental beings. Some were weaker others were stronger such as Dad. He is a very strong elemental being, he is special and he is fire.’
I finally understood the scale of this scale before it dawned upon me: A spell such as this used by a mere human? Impossible.
The light finally subsided and I hoped to get an answer from the chief who was basked in light and I walked forward in his direction but when the light dissipated so he did. The chief had turned completely into light.
I could hardly believe this when I heard slow heavy footsteps coming from the forest. It was Theresa who had dismounted from her direwolf. She had reached us when her father had almost completely dissipated. He was still smiling and it looked like he was happy to see his daughter one last time.
Forbidden light” she mumbled. You really used it…” she said while the tears were flowing down her cheeks.
She wiped them away and smiled I hope the beings of light will welcome their greatest admirer in their rows” When she said this the last specks of light dissipated but what neither of us had sensed was that a little bit of this light had already entered our bodies.
Meanwhile I looked around: I wasn’t very surprised when I saw that the lightning wizard was gone without remains after this strike of light. What caught my interest was that the female wizard’s body was gone as well. The most amazing thing that shocked me beyond measure was something completely different. Liz and Little Racer carried a person each towards Theresa and myself. These two were barely able to stand but they didn’t appear to have any outer wounds. This was absolutely shocking because a few minutes earlier I had seen a rapier strike them down. Indeed these were Gabriel’s elite disciples. They had come back to life. Gabriel and I looked at each other before helping the two get on their feet again although we were quite suspicious.
Theresa noticed our weird behaviour towards them and asked us to explain ourselves. After hearing this story she fell silent before saying indeed, the nature of light is to heal. These were my fathers words. He liked to talk about the light.
When she stopped talking about her father she looked towards Mercy who had come out of the city hall alongside Natalie and my familiars.
Indeed, healing is the light’s nature” she said when she saw him who was now in top form although the epic battle of the two armies wasn’t even a day ago.
Mercy walked towards me and like a knight who was talking to his king he sank to one knee before telling me the two wizard apprentices were wearing the crest of the king. There aren’t many practicing wizards in this country because it is seen as witchcraft and therefore use of the dark arts which is equal to treason. The only wizard who is openly allowed is the court wizard, an official wizard who is quite proficient in fire elemental and special magic as I have heard. If these two are wearing this crest out in the open it means they must be allowed to do so by the king. Their absence will soon be researched and if the court wizard utilizes his abilities to locate them or anyone who was with them then we are screwed.”
He is right I thought and if he is really their teacher then we will have no chance of retaliation against him.
Fine then” I paused before looking at Theresa and the clan’s people behind her
The chief said I should care for you” Theresa blushed a little …all of you” I added just to be safe.
Since the chief is gone now we are no longer safe here. He has told me something about the north.”
Theresa interrupted me I think he told me the same thing. There is a big tamer clan in the north behind this empire’s borders. We shall go there to get away from this empire and its evil people.
I agree” I said Take as much as you can carry with you or on your familiars.”
When I looked at my statue I called Bambi to my side and called some of the village’s craftsmen over.
I won’t allow that this gift from the chief will fall into the dirty hands of the empire. Build something so that my mount can transport the statue.”
