Living With An Immortal Dragon Soul - Chapter 20 The Journey Begins
It took the clan’s craftsmen two days to build a transport vehicle that was sturdy enough to carry the statue. Meanwhile all the villagers, be they men, women or children helped packing their bags and building equipment so that their familiars could help carrying some of their stuff.
There were two carriages which were normally used if the clan had to go to another town or village to trade their things for some necessities which they couldn’t craft themselves.
On the third day everything was prepared. We could have started the journey right away but before that I wanted that the scouts that were slaughtered by the two apprentices would be buried in their home turf.
I had the warriors dig out several graves and accompanied the to the location of their deaths. We brought them back and those who liked to spoke a few last words. Before the earth was closed again by the warriors shovels I cut the big blanket that once covered the statue before the feast into several little pieces to cover the faces of the deceased. We didn’t have any suitable rocks to place at this graveyard so I carved some words in these pieces while saying them aloud each time I carved them Rest in Peace” the graves formed a circle and the centre was exactly where the chief dissipated.
I stood there for a moment before I took out many of my sabreteeth daggers to form the words here rests a hero, a true wizard of the light”. While writing this a teardrop formed in my right eye, running down my face and dropping down onto these words.
After that we left the village behind and started our journey to the north. What none of us saw was that the soil split apart and a shining white plant started to cover a little spot in the middle of these graves.
We walked for a while when we came to the lake in the middle of the forbidden forest. One last time the Naga siblings and I dived to the ground to harvest the <snake’s third=”” eye=””>one last time and Natalie took a few plants with her hoping she could grow them again once we settled down in the north. She put the plants in a water barrel since it was an underwater plant and after that Gabriel and Natalie went to their previous cave. They prayed to their ancestors that the journey shall be peaceful and that they can settle down in a prosperous place in the north.
When they had said their farewell to their old home we walked further until we had reached the northern end of the forbidden forest.
Many of the children have barely left their village. The forest was the only world they knew. Therefore many were scared or excited about this new scenery. The few elders of the village had probably not seen the world beyond the forest for decades. They were equally excited to see how the outside world looked now.
This wasn’t the location of the battle of the two armies therefore it was nice to look around. Behind us was the lush greenery of the forbidden forest and before us was a seemingly endless space of prairie. It was still a very fertile land but the giant trees of the forest could not be compared to the small plants all around. There were also many animals squirming around but none of them seemed to be the tiniest bit of a danger. This place seemed to be a utopia for many small creatures. We walked for days without a change in the terrain. Meanwhile I studied the characteristics of these animals. They were indeed harmless to humans. The most dangerous animal was a small snake. It’s length was approximately that of a young rattle snake but it didn’t possess any of that snake’s characteristics. It was neither venomous nor did it made lots of sounds. Furthermore I almost did not see it because it had the ability of a chameleon. It blended perfectly within his surroundings. The only reason I noticed it was that it looked at me from afar and took effect without me realizing why at first. The snake then moved towards me and when it closed in to ten metres I finally found it. Its camouflage was truly impressive.
You are a little chameleon, aren’t you? I guess your name should be Cham then.” the chameleon snake named Cham then sat behind me on Bambi next to the three young racer lizards. The fourth one, Lincoln, grew quite fond of Theresa so I let him stay by her side. He was still a little weaker and smaller than his siblings and Theresa carried him on her shoulders. It was a funny scene to look at because it reminded me of a girl wearing a scarf.
After weeks of wandering to the north we found a traveling merchant. We sold him the fur of the creatures we had slain so far and bought some necessities and toys for the children who were bored to death.
He was quite a nice guy so he told us were we would find the next village and that we should be careful because sometimes there were bandits lurking around in the forest that led to the village but, seeing that many of us were armed and looking at the warriors’ brutish appearances his mind was at ease.
if you could kill or capture these bandits the villages might even reward you for it. There aren’t many adventurers in these areas because the villages are peaceful most of the time. Not even a singe goblin tribe is within a twenty kilometre radius. If you overlook the bandits roaming around here the villagers really live the peacefullest of lives in the entirety of the all human empire and because it is so far away from the capital even the nobles don’t bother to collect taxes from them very often. It took us another two months two travel to the forest the merchant had described. On our way we even found some eight-legged horses.
It was quite an easy but still demanding feat for the village of tamers to break these horses. Now almost every adult member had a mount.
That sped up our traveling speed by a lot. The forest which the merchant was said to be around the village came into our field of view very soon. Since the scouts were dead I alongside the took over the reconnaissance. When we met again with the rest of the clan we exchanged our intel. There were approximately one hundred or less bandits. This was a little more than the number of the military units of the clan including the warriors including Gabriel and Theresa, the and last but not least myself. We could probably face them head on but I wanted to minimize the casualties so I decided we would need a plan.
