Living With An Immortal Dragon Soul - Chapter 21 The Serpents Strike
The Night Serpent’s Eyes were perfect for scouting missions. Meanwhile the rest of the clan set up a temporary camp a kilometre away from the main road which was used to travel through the forest. There was a hill that obstructed the view of anybody who would traverse this land. Therefore this would be our hideout until we would have dealt with the bandits.
There were some merchants and people from the village using the road in the forest.
Almost everytime the bandits stood in the middle of the road, waiting for the unlucky travellers.
We found out that there were bandits stationed throughout the whole forest. They were divided into teams of ten to fifteen people consisting of archers and swordsmen. Some of them were quite formidable but in a one-on-one fight against any of the night serpent clan’s military inhabitants they would almost every time be on the losing side.
The problem was that every member of these bandits carried a horn with them in case something unexpected would happen.
If we simply decided to charge each of the bandit teams after each other we might be trapped from all sides when they blow their horns for reinforcements. The bandits’ teams were in each other’s vicinity all the time.
The bandits were more active at night and hid in the bushes beside the road to surprise any passerby when they were on their criminal duty.
During the day they were less active and I finally received some important intel from Fang who had focused on one team that stopped its duty a few hours ago.
He had found out that they had erected a camp nearby. It was located near a river in the middle of the forest.
I commanded all units to continue trailing after the small bandits’ teams.
In the unlikely event that the bandits would leave behind their horns I instructed them to take down the bandits stealthily one after another.
Meanwhile I was headed to the bandits’ hideout.
It wasn’t as much of a fortress as the hunters’ hideout in the forbidden forest, namely hunter’s creek. The problem here was that they had many archers with high quality arrows in their camp and it was lit by many lamps which made my advantages which were surpreme assassination skills much weaker. This body has already become very strong but it was still developing and since I had met with these two wizard apprentices before I did not dare to underestimate the battle prowess of my enemies.
The worst case scenario would be that among these bandits was a battle mage. I did not know how many wizards existed in this world but from the less then three hundred people who I encountered three were proficient in magic.
That was a full percent. If among 100 humans there was one being who is proficient in magic then I would have to be extremely careful when I encountered large quantities of enemies.
Therefore I did not dare to just barge into their hideout but Cham did not seem to be very influenced by my anxiety. He just activated his camouflage and entered the hideout. The little snake was truly a master when it came to the art of hiding. Even when someone looked at him directly he would not be seen unless the person was actively searching for something and had extremely sharp senses.
Although Cham wasn’t very venomous, for small animals this camouflaged snake would be an absolute predator.
I closed my eyes and concentrated after having found some cover. Now I saw through the eyes of Cham. He was slithering around the hideout pretty fast and without making a lot of noises. There were some small, probably improvised, huts and I instructed Cham to slither in through the smallest holes. Besides the sleeping huts that were the most abundant there was a kitchen, a storage room and an area to craft weapons and armour and other necessities.
When I saw this I ordered it to come back and I went back to our camp with Cham on my shoulders.
When I arrived there I took a very small bag with me and then I went back to my hiding place near the enemy hideout.
Cham was equipped with the bag and slowly slithered back to the different huts
Meanwhile I couldn’t suppress an evil grin.
On our long journey here Nat and Gabe told me a lot about the secrets of the Naga and some things were quite interesting to know. They taugt me almost everything their ancestors told them about the variety of plants and animals they knew about.
One such thing is that the <snake’s third=”” eye=””>might be a beneficial plant for Nagas and creatures like these but it wasn’t the least beneficial for humans. It was quite the opposite…
“hehehe” I chuckled “let’s see how poisonous these plants truly are for humans. It’s a pity that I have to sacrifice a few of them but if I am not willing to sacrifice a little now I might not reap any benefits.
I had Cham sneak through the holes in the improvised huts and give them a little … present
‘They won’t like it, hahahaha’ Drake joined in on the evil laugh that just left my mouth.
“The <snake’s third=”” eye=””>is a really amazing herb. Its abilities can vary depending on the person it is used on.”
Tonight will be the right time. Tonight the Night Serpent Clan will strike these criminals down. After that we can finally go to that village inside the forest with a clear conscience and if we are lucky we will even have the possibility to gain some rewards. After that is done and we will have restocked or supplies we can then venture further to the north.
When the little camouflaged Cham returned the little bag it was completely empty.
I could feel Drake’s mood and it was influencing me to continue having this evil smile on my face while going back to our camp.
When I reached it I called the to have a good night’s sleep before they would have to fight tomorrow.
Later on I talked to Gabriel and Natalie once more about another part of my plan before going to bed as well.
