Lord Of Blood - Volume 1 Chapter 10 Bloodline
Linus was sitting on a couch in one of the rooms and looking out the window. He actually was given a room in the cellar just like Seras but he quickly denied that hospitality.
Walter was rather surprised and urged him to rethink that choice. But after Linus did not budge on the matter he could only nod and tell him that if he changes his mind that the next room to Seras is his.
Food and a resting place would always wait there.
“What are you doing up here? The sun will be soon up.”, asked Alucard after he came into the room through the wall.
“Hmm? Ever heard of knocking or entering normally?”, asked Linus back. “And why do you care?”
“You are a bad influence on the police girl with that behavior.”
Linus just squinted his eyes when looking in his direction.
“Then how about you teach her for once and don’t let her run around like that. She is so confused and conflicted it makes one wonder if she really will handle her new life. I don’t know how you handle things normally but I would assume you should take responsibility for her, no? Or are you planning to give me this job? If yes then you better stop mentioning how I handle it…”
It was weird that Alucard just stayed silent after his words.
“You know. I felt your presence. So why did you not show yourself?
“…I was there to watch her performance and make sure the targets get eliminated. Some targets are just too much for mere humans.”
“…Mentioning that. There is actually something I wanted to ask you. How come there are so many different types of kindred? The woman on our mission didn’t turn to ash after the silver-tipped bullets pierced her heart and head. And I remember my body did decompose into ash when you killed me last time?”
Alucard seemed to be in a rather good mood because he sat down on the other couch on the opposite side of him.
“Someone is playing around and creating what we call artificial vampires. I call them cheap imitates because they barely have a resemblance towards us. Every single vampire has a different amount of power. One can vaguely evaluate them by their generation and the bloodline that flows through them.”
Linus smiled in understanding. “So, are you a primogenitor, or are you just very close to the ancestor of your bloodline?”
Alucard grinned widely. “You are catching on fast. I…” His eyes glowed slightly. “…No, I think it is not time to tell you that yet.”
“Huh, playing the mysterious card now, are we?”
“No, I think you are just not ready to know anything about it.”
“…Suit yourself then. But you still didn’t answer my question.”
“They are just too weak. Their regeneration is so marginal that their weaknesses become mostly fatal…That woman was actually no artificial vampire but she also did not go far up in the ladder of her bloodline. She could have probably regenerated if she were to be put into a coffin full of blood. Artificial vampires, on the other hand, seem to be produced by a mixture of bloodlines that have various effects. But because of the nature and basis of the bloodlines being too thin, they end up weak.”
“Hmm, I guess it is to be expected if humans try to become something without going the normal way?”
“The normal way…Do you even know how abnormal your own transformation was? You basically stole some of my blood and used it as a trigger. And I am talking about myself. Someone who is a master of blood manipulation…The very moment you started whatever you did, I had no say in it anymore.”
“I guess we are two then…” Linus squinted his eyes now after some sun rays fell on his face through the window glass. Looking to the side he could see the sun was rising up slowly.
He felt uncomfortable to some degree but soon that weird feeling seemed to disappear. There was only slight drowsiness.
“Looks like my thinking about our bloodline being strong enough to negate sunlight was spot on, huh?”, grinned Linus.
Alucard was only glaring at him now.
“Why that fierce glare out of a sudden?”, asked Linus and could basically feel the killing intent in his look.
“Your hair and eyes…”
Linus just raised an eyebrow. “What about them?”
With that question, Alucard calmed down and pointed at a mirror in the corner of the room. Linus just stood up and walked over to it.
What he saw inside his reflection surprised him as well. His hair was ashen grey and his eyes turned back to an emerald green color that he had as a human.
“Looks like we have to reconsider you being a completely new bloodline after all…” Alucard now stood behind him. “Anyway, don’t tell the police girl anything about this. She definitely won’t be able to walk in the sun yet…I for one will go rest now…”
His last words echoed in the mist that Alucard produced before he disappeared into the floor.
Linus only went through his hair and felt weird. He definitely didn’t see that coming.
Is my hair going to change as soon as night falls or is it going to stay like this? Come to think, I need to experiment with a lot of things since I am a hybrid. Werewolves are flesh-eater while Vampires only consume blood. And the conversation with Alucard showed me that True Vampires come with different abilities and strengths.
He scratched his head then.
Damn it. I basically know nothing about my werewolf powers and traits. And I also can’t remember for the hell of it what that weird robot-voice said when it stole the powers….Actually I probably don’t even know half of my traits as a Vampire as well.
Stopping to think about it that hard he only sighed and looked out. A small smile appeared on his face.
“At least I can enjoy some daytime now. London, huh. Let’s go and visit some pubs and get a beer. I really hope I can drink them.”
Before he walked out he saw himself in the mirror again.
“Right, I probably should get myself a new haircut that could fit this hair color?”
“….”
Why does Dante come to my mind?Hmm
