Lord Of Blood - Volume 1 Chapter 5 Awakening
Opening his eyes Linus could see an unfamiliar ceiling again. For him, it was like having a deja vu moment.
He slowly pushed himself up and positioned his rather heavy feeling body into a sitting position while his feet got placed on the ground. He knew he was on a bed currently so his moves were rather automated.
“Finally awake, kid? How do you feel?”
Because of his sluggish motions, Linus still had his head leaning forward with a hunched back. He froze with his movements and only his crimson eyes traveled up to the origin of the voice.
He stared at Alucard who was sitting on a chair in the corner of the room by a small table. There was even a wine bottle placed on it. And near it, a wine glass that was half-filled. No, he could guess the real content of the fluid that was inside was something else.
Then Linus closed his eyes again and lay his head into his hands while supporting them with the help of his elbows on the knees. Massaging his temples slowly he waited until the slight headache had disappeared that was currently still running through his head.
“It depends…” He slowly answered. “The lucid dream – no, a nightmare. It was definitely no fun to go through that…The fear and the pain I felt were so real…” His voice was rather hushed, nearly inaudible.
Linus had a very painful dream where every second lasted like an eternity. It was very likely the turning he went through. That sheer horror also nagged at his mind constantly and he thought he would lose it.
Sure, the thought about killing himself came often when he was still back in his old world. And generally, he ended up in this mess because of it as well, but he always considered doing it the fastest way possible – preferably painless.
And if one had to feel pain, it should be over at some point. But what he went through while in that state made him fearful of ever going through it again. The horror took a clear toll on his already cracked psyche. He felt to have lost something.
His mind was slowly clearing up but the change will forever remain there. The desire to die now was a thing from the past. Now he only felt tired – angry at best.
But not only his mind was afflicted but his body was also still feeling somewhat heavy and ached from that pain all over. Even his heart was racing rather fast.
The only real good thing currently was that it was all over. The cool air in the room was like a soothing mistress healing his pain slowly and alleviating his mind like a cleanse.
And the more he thought about the events till now the more he felt like an idiot who was completely caught up in the rush. A chess piece used by that goddess. Something just felt off at this point.
But he could think about it another time. Sooner or later he would find it out for sure. Then he looked back up at Alucard. “I guess it’s normal?” His question was aimed at the pain from the transformation.
“And how come I woke up here?” He glanced over the room slightly. “I remember being killed by that priest?”
“For me, you looked pretty dead as a ghoul as well. Just like the last time as a vampire…I wonder what you are now…” Alucard grinned and questioned. He was still rather curious about what was going on with him.
Hearing those words Linus frowned. “You mean you actually remember our first encounter?”
“As clear as day. Well, this time you showed your fangs more in order to eat some brain, I presume.”
Just thinking about the last encounter with Alucard made Linuss blood boil again. The torture was still fresh in his mind since it was barely a few hours for him.
Adding up that dream made it even worse. Now he had the urge to jump him and claw him to death. But there was also something else in his mind – caution. His sharpened instincts rang alarm bells.
“Then why didn’t you just kill me when I turned into a ghoul?” Linuss face became ugly and he slightly gritted his teeth when he snarled that question.
“That would be because I have questions that need answers. For example, why are you alive again?”
“Shouldn’t you be more of an expert in regard to vampire stuff? You tell me why I turned up here.”
Alucard didn’t particularly like the way he avoided his questioning and squinted his eyes. But then again he also didn’t answer anything he asked. “You know pretty well what I really mean. Why are you back alive after I killed you 8 months ago?”
“…” Linus thought about it for a second. “Well, my answer is still the same. Dunno about it. Why don’t you ask God? After all, I am here just because someone plays around with my soul. They came to the great idea I should get a second…Well…more than a second chance to live. First was a fast death. The second try was that vampire accident and the third attempt…Well, you can see the outcome right in front of you. Any more questions? No? Otherwise, I would like a trade here. One question for another?”
“God…” Alucard glared at Linus now. When he heard something about God he became furious. He nearly wanted to charge Linus and ask him if he was trying to fool him. But who else knew better than Alucard how much of an asshole God really was.
“Where is Seras by the way? Don’t tell me you killed her?”
Being confronted with another question again Alucard calmed down and looked at Linus. Then he picked up Some IDs that were also lying on the table beside him. “Linus Braun…Birthplace Munich, huh. Interesting cover…Are you worried about the girl?” The other ID was probably the one from Seras.
“Well, considering you had such a bad temper the last time we met. I guess I am. And that information on the ID is true. The deity sending me here didn’t bother giving me a new identity.”
Alucard was contemplating something. There was actually another person that somewhat defied logic and rose his curiosity. The logic being in this case God. He even chuckled a little thinking about it. “Look behind you.”
Raising a brow Linus looked behind himself on the bed and saw a woman sleeping soundly as if dead. Seras was beside him all the time.
“Ah, I see…Did you turn her and me into vampires? How does it even work with me being the same gender as you? I thought only v.i.r.g.i.ns of the same gender could turn?”
“Hmm, you seem to know some things about vampires. It is true, that normally, that would be the case. But first: I can turn anyone I want. Changing gender…”
Alucard actually turned to dark matter and manifested himself into his girlycard figure. Now even his voice was much higher. “…Is a rather easy thing to do and doesn’t concern me.”
Linuss right eye twitched somewhat because of that creepy move. That was definitely something he would never do even if he ended up bored after a few hundred years.
Good thing Alucard didn’t really care much about that form and changed back. “So even if I bite someone as a man it is up to the person himself to accept the gift of immortality.”
Then Alucard pointed with a finger on Linus. “But you, kid, accepted the blood around you on your own volition. I saw it flowing towards you. In the end, you changed into a true vampire without a sire just like me 500 years ago.”
Linus narrowed his eyes. So the powers inside me still triggered after enough blood surrounded me. Or it may have been because I got bitten and turned into a ghoul. Ghouls are immortal undead as well after all.
“I see…So, are you currently trying to evaluate me to see if I am a threat?”
Alucard grinned. “Don’t delusion yourself. Even if you are the same as me. Your powers are still not manifested and would need years to even get remotely to my level. So I am not worried about that. What I think is that you should join Hellsing.”
“And if I decline?”
“You know what should happen then. If you ever make a wrong move…I will be gladly hunting you down. Oh, and that girl stays. As you guessed, I sired her. She is now a valued asset of the Hellsing organization.”
“Fine…But I like my freedom. If I see something I am against I won’t do it. By the way. I start to smell…” Linus did notice his odor was becoming unpleasant for even himself. Probably his heightened senses “Where is the bathroom in this house? I need a shower first.”
Alucard just leaned back and remained smiling. He then told Linus the location but he had to get there on his own. Alucard had to oversee his fledgling after all.
Linus didn’t care much about that and walked to the place that he was told.
Entering the room with the said bathroom he could see it was a rather old victorian style room. Actually nearly all of the villa was victorian style.
Walking over to a couch he freed his upper body from all the clothing that was now dyed in blood-red. That included things like his police uniform and protective vest. Not that it actually protected him from anything.
The rest of his attire he would undress when he was in the bathroom.
Linus also didn’t forget to take a close look at his own body. He could see that his transformation sure did activate the ultimate metabolism. Flawless ironlike abs were seen by him on places he didn’t even think muscle existed. He was ripped as all hell.
And his skin was also a healthier color even if it was still rather pale. Being undead has its perks. Or was it being supernatural since he is a hybrid?
He should still hide that fact from Alucard. From the conversation a second ago he could tell that Alucard could not just read his mind. Otherwise, there was no need for all his questions and the interest that he had in him.
With a somewhat happy smile, he then walked over to the side room that was the said bathroom and opened the door leading to it. That was rather easy since it was not locked.
Normally a normal bathroom would be the first image one would see after entering. But what came into his view was a young woman in her twenties with long platin-blonde hair, that reached down to her curvaceous ass, standing in front of the mirror. Her darker bronze skin emphasized the color to the point where it looked like it was shining.
The woman was currently drying said hair with a towel near her head. Therefore the scarce clothing that she had with only white panties at the bottom and nothing but a bare chest was a rather normal picture.
Only the frozen shock on her face and the slight tremble of her blue eyes indicated that she was surprised by the uninvited guest.
Linus his eyes immediately traveled to the rather small but tasty looking b.r.e.a.s.ts that perked into his direction.
Getting herself out of the stupor with quick wits, a slight blush appeared on her face either because of shame or anger. “ALUCAAAARD!!!!!!” If he had to bet his money it would be on the latter case.
In the previous room, Alucard had a sheepish smile on his face.
“Master, who was that?” It was Seras that asked the question. She woke up shortly after Linus left and already had a small talk with her master.
“That, police girl, was my master and your new boss.”
“She sounds angry?”
Alucard only grinned to that question.
