Love Amidst The Chaos - -2 Chapter Sixteen
*** Yna ***
My house.
“There it is.”
We walked to the door and knocked anxiously. We kept knocking until the door flew open. And there she was, stood in front of the door.
“Grandma, I’m back,” I said as I ran into her arms.
“Yna.”
“I am back grandma,” I muttered as I cried into her neck.
“Are you hurt, my dear? What did they do to you?” How did you escape?”
“I am fine, grandma. Nature healed me on our way here. Nyx helped me escape.”
My grandmother frowned, walked up to Nyx and punched him on the face. Fiercely.
“That is for betraying us,” she said then she gave him another punch.
“That’s for the my son and grandchildren,” she shouted and gave him another hurtful blow.
“And that is for hurting my granddaughter.”
“Grandma, that’s enough,” I chuckled. But it was obviously not enough for her because she punched him again.
Twice.
“And that was to make me feel better.”
“I understand you are mad. And I am very sorry but it is important that you put your hatred aside for now because we need to leave before my dad arrives with his men.”
“That’s right, grandma. Where is aunt Laila we need to start packing now.”
“The stupid brat hung herself because she apparently couldn’t take the pain any longer. If she kills herself because she lost 3 people, how does she expect me to feel? I lost everything, my husband, my children, their families and the only person living was in the arms of my enemies,” my grandmother ranted.
“Did she actually? Are you okay, grandma? It must have been hard for you? ”
“Don’t worry about me, dear. Like you said earlier we need to pack. I will pack the food and water, you pack a few clothes for all of us and Nyx you pack some weapons and battle gears.”
“OK, let us all meet up here in ten to fifteen minutes.”
“Okay,” they chorused as we all went to do different things.
After meeting up, we setted off on our journey. We walked through grass, sand and even water until we couldn’t walk anymore.
We camped under the moonlight and stared at the glowing stars until we all fell asleep.
***
Dark night. Gunshots. Heavy rain fell upon all of us. I fell to my knees and cried. My heart ached like never before. I couldn’t believe I lost…
***
I woke up with a start. It was just a dream. I sighed loudly with relief. My heart continued to ache. I could still feel the pain I felt in the dream. I lost someone. Who it was, however I am not sure. I felt the pulse of the ground.
They are coming.
“Grandma, Nyx, Get up. Get up. They’re coming, get up.”
“Nyx, Nyx. Oh my God, Nyx, get up.”
“mmm, what, it is not morning yet, ” he yawned.
“We have to leave now, they are coming,” I complained as I forcefully dragged him along.
“Where are we even going? We can’t just keep on going without a destination in mind.”
“We don’t know yet but in the mean time we have to keep going or they’ll catch up with us. They will here any minute.”
“How far away are they?”
Out of nowhere, a bullet flew past me.
“Not far in enough, run.”
More bullets followed the first. I took out my lint gun and fired. Another bullet flew past me but this time from in front of me. I saw more coming from in front.
What the hell.
“Did you think your little present in the woods was going to stop us.”
“Dad…”
“Don’t you dare call me your dad, you are no longer my son. You are a disgrace to me. To your mother.”
I felt rage build up in my bones at his voice. Outraged, grandma took out a lint sword and went straight at the nearest man to her. She dived the sword right through him, spinned it and pulled it back out.
“If you want my granddaughter then you would have to get through us first,” she shouted killing everything in sight.
I think that’s my cue. I took out my sword and followed her lead. It was the battle of the lifetime. Highly unfair though. It was us three versus who knows how many men. Bodies fell to the ground. Blood dripped from our fresh wounds but we raged on. The wind roared with anger.
The horrible smell of melted organs filled the air as more and more hybrids fall to their death.
“Yna, look out,” someone screamed and almost immediately I heard a gunshot and fell to ground before I could act. I smelt flesh burning but I wasn’t sure it was mine. I looked at the body on top of me.
No.
“Nyx, No. Nyx look at me. You must not die,” I cried trying to stop his heart from melting. I pulled out some grass and sprinkled it on his wounds. But nothing happened.
“Yna, I am so sorry,”
“No Nyx, you can’t die. I won’t let you die,” I screamed as the heavy rain poured down on all of us. I couldn’t believe it. It was Nyx. In my dream. It was Nyx. Not Grandma.
“Get away from him. How dare you touch my son? Nyx, Nyx. Look at me.”
“Dad. I am sorry. I am sorry for…”
“No, Nyx. Nyx. Nyx, open your eyes. Open your your eyes right now. Nyx,” his dad screamed.
“Nyx, no. Nyx please. Don’t leave me,” I cried as I held his face in my hands.
“Get away from him. Don’t touch him. Don’t touch my son. This is all your fault. He died because of you. You killed him. And now I will kill you. You killed my son just like your dad killed my wife,” he screamed as he grabbed me and shaked me. He grabbed me neck and squeezed but then he screamed and fell to the ground.
“Grandma,” I cried as I ran into her arms and weeped into her neck.
“Hush, dear. It’s okay, it’s all going to be fine.”
“No, it is not grandma,” I screamed pushing her away.
“It is not okay and it is not going to be fine. He is dead, ma. I killed him.”
“No you didn’t, my dear. Don’t let that crazy man get into your head.”
“He died to save me, lola. He died because of me, ” I screamed at her. The patter of rain, that previously fell like tears, strengthened. The wind roared; thunder and lightning followed.
“Yna, calm down. Calm down.”
“I will not calm down, lola. He is dead, they are all dead. Don’t you get it. I killed them all of them. Nyx, uncle Eduardo and his family, my parents…”
“No, dear don’t even think for one second you killed all of them…”
“I did grandma. I did.” I threw up my arms. Heaps of earth rose between us and swirled into the storm. I couldn’t take it anymore. I was breaking. They pain was far stronger than I imagined. I slammed my feet against the ground. I felt the earth roll beneath. I knew I had lost control. I knew I had to regain control.
“Yna, stop. Stop this instant.”
Rain and wind swirled around me. The electrical storm raged all around me. It uprooted the trees and launched them into the distance.
A tree caught on fire. I felt the darkness crept into my heart. I lifted my hand and held the burning tree then tossed it at her. She ducked and the burning tree hit the tree behind her. The flames rose and rapidly spread across the trees. It burnt anything in its way, men, plants and animals.
“Yna, stop this. If you don’t you will destroy everything and everyone. That means the hybrids won and everyone died for nothing. Nyx died for nothing. And you would lose me.”
Her words struck a cord in my heart. She was right. I had to stop. I need to control my feelings. I felt the storm settle. The rain slowed into a light drizzle accompanied by a soft chilly breeze. I saw the destruction before. The ashes of men alive mere moments ago. I quivered in fear of what happened to grandma. Then I saw her there, standing in the midst of the destruction and there beside her was Nyx’s body.
“Grandma, ” I said weeping. She ran to me and welcomed me into her arms.
“Naaawa ako, lola”
“Hush now, my dear, it’s fine. I will always be with you. It will all be fine. I am here. It is going to be fine.”
“I talagang mahilig ka sa, lola.”
“Mahal din kita, mahal ko,” l she said as she hugged me tighter.
