Love Is So Sweet - Chapter 16
The day after the incident with the drug addict, Lisa was still awake writing in her notebook as she could not sleep a wink. Even though she told Karla she was alright, the truth of the matter was, she was still rattled by the incident and every time she closed her eyes, she can’t help but remember that creepy guy who attacked her.
Lisa tried her best to distract herself by writing, but that wasn’t able to help. She then looked at the clock and saw it was already eight in the morning. When she was thinking about what she could possibly do to alleviate her fear somebody sent her a message.
“Good morning Lisa, I hope you’re feeling better now.” The person who messaged her was Jun. It was sent in such perfect timing that Lisa was a bit surprised.
“Maybe he could help? He does seem to be pretty good in random stuff… Or I could just go to my psychiatrist, but that’s going to cost me and I’m already short on money for this month. What do you think Mia?” Lisa patted her cat’s head as it simply answered with a meow.
‘I guess I could try doing this. He does seem to be really good at making me feel comfortable, in fact, he’s even better than Karla. Also, she did say I need to try and get along with other people. Alright, let’s try this! I can do this!’
After pumping herself up she called Jun.
“Hey, Lisa what’s up?” Hearing his cheery voice felt a bit weird, even with what happened yesterday it doesn’t seem like he was affected.
“Are you free today?”
“Until you post that first chapter of yours in two days, I’m pretty much free any time you want me to be.”
“Then can you meet me in the same coffee shop that we went to yesterday. There’s something I want to talk to you about.”
“Of course, what time should I be there?” when Jun answered he switched his tone from the cheery one to a serious one. The way he could change pace and tone almost instantly was quite unnerving.
“If you can please meet me an hour from now.”
…
Half an hour before the meeting time, Jun was already sitting at the same spot he was in yesterday and ordered the same coffee. The only difference from yesterday was what he was wearing. As he was about to settle in and drink his coffee, Lisa entered the shop. Upon entering she immediately spotted Jun and approached him.
“How long have you’ve been here?”
“I actually just sat down.” While Jun answered Lisa spotted the coffee that hasn’t been touched.
“Do you always come this early?”
“Of course, I can’t make a lady wait for me.” When Lisa heard this she felt like something was wrong, but decided to shake it off as she sat down.
“I see…” As Lisa sat down Jun finally got a good look at her.
“You don’t look so good, what happened to you?”
“I couldn’t sleep,” Lisa answered without any pretense.
“Damn it, I’m sorry, I knew you weren’t alright after going through something like that. If there’s anything I could help with, just ask.”
Lisa was glad that Jun was someone who picks up things fast. This made it less difficult for her to actually ask for help.
“Actually, I just want to talk with you, so I can distract myself. I would’ve called Karla but I’m sure she would be busy with the writer she was ȧssigned to. So you’re the only other person I could turn to. I’m sorry if this is out of line.”
“Not it’s not, didn’t I already tell you when I introduced myself, I want us to be friends. So we can talk about whatever you want. Though, I do think it’s better if we talk about what happened yesterday, to get it out of your system.”
“I don’t like to talk about it, so let’s not do that.” Lisa sounded a bit more aggressive as she spoke.
“Sure, so what is it you want to talk about?” Even as the situation went a bit tense, Jun remained ever calm.
“Actually, I heard from Karla that you once wrote a fantasy novel, back when you were in high school. What happened to that?”
When Jun heard Lisa’s question his mask almost broke as his smiling face almost turned into a frown, even his eyebrows nearly knitted. Lisa was able to notice those slight changes as this was the first time she saw Jun show any other emotion aside from cool and calm. This was also the first time she saw a different expression from him that wasn’t him smiling, though it did only last for a few seconds before he returned to his slight smile.
“Why do you want to know?”
“I’m just a bit curious.”
“Then I don’t want to tell you.”
“Why?”
“How about we talk about something else, like why you freaked out on me yesterday for inviting you to eat lunch.”
“…”
“You see, that’s what I’m feeling when you asked me that question. So how about we forget that we ever asked them and start talking about something else. How about we talk about your switch from mystery novel writer to romance novel writer?”
“…” Lisa remained silent as she seems to be in deep thought.
“You see I actually read one of your works and I really found your mystery novels to be quite intriguing.”
“How so?” When Lisa heard Jun talk about her novel, Lisa’s quirk kicked in. Even though Jun just met Lisa recently he could somehow understand how to have a conversation with her. As they continued talking about her novel, Lisa actually felt way better than before. Though she was still a bit rattled by what happened, it feels like she could probably sleep now.
After talking for a bit more about her mystery novel, Lisa looked at Jun and resolved herself.
“I’m sorry about asking something that made you feel uncomfortable… Also, thank you.”
“Like I said let’s just forget about it. It’s better for both of us. So what else do you want to talk about?”
“Actually I think I’m alright now, so I’ll just go back to my apartment and sleep.”
“Allow me to escort there. Since you look like you might suddenly sleep while walking.” Lisa who was really feeling sleepy now agreed to Jun’s suggestion without a fuss.
