Loving The Devil - Chapter 2
The moment Chloe entered the cafe, she saw Sam attentively cleaning tables. “Hey, Sam, were you guys busy today?” Chloe asked as Sally shoots Sam a malicious look. Trying to convey that if Sam tells any other version to her story, she will regret it.
In return, Sam simply smiles and states “We have been fairly busy, nothing we couldn’t handle. Oh, did Phillip get ahold of you? He stopped by looking for you; I ȧssumed he would try to call.” Chloe doesn’t notice the discontent on Sally’s face. This was something between Sally and Sam.
….
Earlier that day Sam had walked in on Sally kissing Phillip. Sam was so shocked that she slammed the door and tried to hurry away. When Sally caught up with her, she just said it wasn’t what she thought and to dismiss it out of her mind.
Currently, Chloe looks at her phone and sees that she has no calls from Phillip. She tells Sam “thank you, but he hasn’t called. Let’s close it up it’s getting late.” Chloe steps away to the office with Phillip filling her thoughts. Sally on her heels, starving for gossip.
“What’s wrong Chloe? You don’t look too well. Did something happen between you and Phillip?” Sally stares at Chloe with a sparkle in her eye, feeling like she will finally get her chance.
Chloe looks distraught and confused ” I’m not sure, he has been weird lately. I mean today was the anniversary of their death, and he hasn’t called to check up on me. It seems like everyone is forgetting about them and moving on. While I’m still here moping about and it’s not just today. Recently it feels as though he is avoiding me, I just wish I knew why.” Chloe starts to tear up, her emotions getting the best of her. “Sally, do you think he wants to break up? I mean what if he thinks I’m boring, or what if he wants to leave me because I haven’t given ‘IT’ to him yet?” Sally sees the sadness in Chloe’s eyes as she remembers how Chloe is still a vɨrġɨn. “Chloe, how is it possible that you still have your virtue? You guys have been together for almost three years. Why haven’t you slept with him yet? You know he’s not going to stick around much longer if you haven’t given it to him or won’t. What are you scared of?”
Chloe stops counting the books and stares at Sally. “I’m not scared I just want it to be with the right guy. I was going to let him have me, but then my parents passed. Since then we haven’t had the right time.”
The room went quiet, with both women deep in thought at this time. When a loud knocking sound comes from the office door, both ladies became startled and jumped.
“Honey, are you in there? May I come in?” It was Phillip, “Yes, you may come in. I’m sorry that I missed you earlier I was at the cemetery.” Phillip opens the door, the old heavy wood scrapes against the wood flooring. “Need to get this fixed.” He looks at Chloe and then at Sally, smiles a crooked smile and walks forward. “So, who was the mischievous one who mentioned I stopped by?” “Sam told me.” “She should be fired for getting into my personal affairs.” “She will not. She has done nothing wrong. Why, don’t you want me to know you dropped by?”
“It’s not that sweetie; it’s just, I….. I wanted to surprise you, and now it’s all messed up. I don’t want to argue. It seems that’s all we do anymore is argue.” “I’m sorry are you ready to go home? I can get Sally to finish here.” Sally looks at Phillip with pleading eyes, not wanting to finish the work but instead wanting to finish what they were doing earlier. Phillip noticed this and smiled.
