- 73 IF YOU CHOOSE TO REJECT MY KIND OFFER...
“Samantha! We’ll be late. Hurry!” her husband called and is becoming impatient.
“Okay coming!” she looked at the woman for the last time and said to herself that she will definitely pay her a visit someday.
On the other hand, Ingrid is becoming impatient waiting for this ill-fated event.
“Excuse me…” and simultaneously looked at the woman’s name, “…ahh Sheery, could you just call your manager, please? I am really in a hurry.” She started to project her impatience.
“Right away, ma’am..” she without delay dialled and called the manager.
Within minutes the manager appeared.
“Miss Howard, we apologize for our negligence. We have sent a follow-up e-mail to your secretary stating that the reserved suite for you has been occupied by that time. However, the couple then further extended their stay an hour after we confirmed your reservation. So we immediately sent you an e-mail…” the manager showed her the sent e-mail.
“My gosh! But my secretary haven’t received any e-mail from you.” She feels so exasperated. Her phone suddenly rings and immediately answered it.
“Daisy, did you or did you not receive any e-mail of cancellation from the hotel?” but the person on the other line did not respond. “..Daisy, are you listening?”
Then she looked at the number who called, it was an unknown number.
“Hello? Who is this?” she asked impatiently.
“Where are you now?” it was a man! His voice was strong and yet alarmed.
“Who are you??” annoyance is written on her face.
“It’s Clifford. Where are you? What do you mean by that e-mail whatsoever?” his voice thundered. Ingrid fell silent and almost cried when she heard his voice it’s either because of exhaustion or anger.
“Ingrid, please answer, where are you?” his voice became calm and full of concern.
“I-I’m at the lo-lobby, err–at the front desk of the hotel–”
“Okay, I am coming over. Wait for me.”
Clifford hurriedly went over to them. While he was on his way, he felt something is wrong with the reservation. He keeps on fidgeting feeling that the elevator became so slow. When he finally reached the first floor, he almost runs towards the front desk. And he stopped on his tracks when he saw Ingrid’s worn out face while cradling Clark. His heart aches looking at her face while the boy she was carrying is peacefully asleep.
He quickened his steps and within a minute he reached out and put his hand on her back.
“Ingrid…” she jerked when she felt his hands on her back. “…let me carry, Clark, you seem so exhausted.” Ingrid did not protested and hand over Clark to Clifford. But she is still disquieted within her that it will make his son to wake up.
Normally, if the boy was asleep in her arms and then be handed over to someone, he would easily wake up. But what surprises her is that he is still sound asleep in the man’s arms. He stood there as if he is really his son’s father.
“What is the matter here?” his gaze was cold and sharp to the staff and manager. The manager started to perspire underneath.
“Mr. Briggs, there was a mistake on the suite that was earlier reserved under Miss Howard. But we outrightly sent her secretary about the cancellation but she did not received our notice and unfortunately there is no vacant suite for her because we are fully booked as of yesterday.” The man’s face was so apologetic.
He fell silent and wanted to scold all of them but then on different note it’s his advantage. He cleared his throat before he spoke.
“If that’s the case,” he looked at the bellboy and instructed. “…bring their things on the penthouse…”
But Ingrid protested. “Excuse me? What are you doing?”
“Relax, the penthouse has two bedrooms so you don’t have to worry about privacy…” inwardly Clifford was celebrating knowing that this unfortunate event is for his advantage.
“But-but, it isn’t proper, what would the clients’ will think. Oh my God! Where did I put myself into?”
“Well, if you choose to reject my kind offer, where will you go?” his brows rose.
She has no choice but to act in accordance with his offer. All she could no is to sigh deeply indicating that she does not like it.
