Lucky Unluckiest - 33 Chapter Thirty Three
Logan
I woke up to the sound of someone calling me on my phone. I hardly opened my eyes and answered it, it was Liam. “Hmm?” He knew what I was saying. “When are you leaving?” He asked me which surprised me enough to open my eyes.
“Day after tomorrow, why?”
“Let’s have breakfast together, I’m treating you.” With that, he ended the call. I got up and got ready to leave when I got a message from Sophia,
‘at when and where do you want me to come?’
‘Kataomoi river, it’s a 15 minutes ride from your place. Let’s meet at 8pm.’
I am going to tell her everything. Kataomoi river is the spot where I went everyday when I was young, it was my spot to think, play alone and get lost in my own fantasies. It was a perfect place for stargazing since the sparkly untamed river makes the breeze fragrant, cool and gentle. And the grass around the river was short bright green and sweet smelling made it a perfect spot for it, I used to gaze at the stars all night and ask the moon all the questions I was curious about, hoping that one day I’d get the answers to it all.
I brushed all my thoughts away and wore my overcoat before leaving since it was freezing outside. I reached the place Liam told me to and saw him waving at me, signaling me to come. He smiled at me and I smiled back. “I was thinking all night, I want to know if you’ll come back after your studies.” He said with his sad eyes.
I looked down and shook my head. “Liam, why don’t you co-”
“You know I can’t. My father won’t let me, he has high hopes from my side. I don’t want to disappoint him either.”
I nodded completely understanding him.
“Let’s not lose contact with each other.” He said, smiling with tears in his eyes which he tried his best not to let them fall. I nodded, avoiding eye contact cause I know I’d cry too.
Liam stood up and told me he’d order but instead I saw him walking in the restroom and I clearly knew the reason why. I have been trying so hard to get a chance like this and been so happy since I realized I can start a new life away from here but why now my heart is aching so much?
I saw him walking out of the restroom and to the counter, he ordered and came back smiling brightly. After our order arrived, we peacefully ate like we always did but this time, silence felt heavy and sad. After finishing our food he asked me if we could watch movie together, I agreed since I had nothing else to do till 8 pm. We made our way to the closest cinema and watched a movie together, he bought popcorn and he bought the beverages even the tickets. He didn’t let me buy anything this time.
After the movie Liam told me that he had something important going on in the family so he’d go home now. I checked the phone, it was almost 4 pm. I saw Liam leaving and I had nothing else to do so I decided to watch another movie to spend my time. Coming out of the cinema, it was already 7pm. Time does fly by. I took an Uber from here to Kataomoi river since it was a little far away from here.
I got there at 7:30 pm so I went to the nearest convenience store and bought two cans of sodas and got back. Walking to the spot, I saw Sophia, I checked the time, it was 7:45. She was here early. “You’re here early.” I said as soon I got near here, almost startling her. She smiled and sat down on the grass. I did the same. I passed her the can I bought and she accepted it. “Is everything okay?” She asked me as she opened her can. I nodded as I opened mine.
We quietly sat and drank the can looking at the shimmering river right before our eyes. The wind was so relaxing and cool yet somehow felt sad. She sighed as she looked up at the sky. I did the same, it was dark already, there weren’t many stars but the moon was there. My companion.
We both looked at the moon, she was as mesmerized by it as I was.
“The moon is beautiful, isn’t?”
There was a silence between us when she admiringly nodded at the moon. She took a long breath in and out. She couldn’t take her eyes off the moon and I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Sad, hopelessly I looked at the moon, complaining in my heart that my words could never reach her heart.
I tried my best to hold the tears back in and I was successful.
Sophia
“Sophia.” He spoke
“Hmm?” I didn’t take my eyes off the sky.
“I’m leaving.”
“What do you mean?” He caught my attention this time.
He didn’t look at me but at the sky, “I got accepted by the university I’ve been trying to get in and this-” he kept saying things I couldn’t understand. He didn’t stop and I couldn’t get a single thing.
What is he saying? Why is he acting so serious? It was my turn to get angry on him, instead he’s leaving me speechless. What’s happening? Why is he leaving? When is he leaving?
“-day after tomorrow.” He finished talking. And all I understood was that he was leaving this country with no intentions of coming back, he’s leaving day after tomorrow. And he’s telling me this NOW!?
I stood up when I couldn’t take it anymore. He was surprised by my actions and he stood too. “I-I am going home, it’s late.” I didn’t look at him and I felt him nodding. I walked away as the anger was rushing through my veins.
Was I joke to him? Something for him to play with till he gets tired? Was I the only one being serious here? What does he think he is telling me he’s leaving right before leaving? Why didn’t he tell me beforehand so I wouldn’t expect anything!?
Tears fell down as my heart ached. I sat down at the bench of the park I was passing by, then I cried. I covered my face with my knees so nobody could see my as I let my emotions out.
He’s the worse.
Why does he has to do that? Why is he leaving? I thought things were going so well till he decided to leave, that’s the reason he was avoiding me all this time. I must have known. Does Liam knows about it?
I called Liam and asked him if he knows about Logan.
“Y-yes.” He replied and I closed my eyes as I felt my heart breaking into two.
It’s all gone before it even started.
I switched off the phone and started walking as wiped my tears with the coat I was wearing, tried my best to hold back my tears from flowing.
I got home and it was already 10pm.
“Honey.” My mom called out.
“I’m sleepy.” I tried best to hold my trembling voice and buried myself in my bed.
