Madtaks : Legend Of The Four Corners - Volume 2 Chapter 35 35
“Oh no! Wait let me see hmm… ” Chiko rummaged all his pockets only to get three pieces of five peso coin and five pieces of five peso coin.” I only have twenty here. I have to sell more baluts before I can pay, do you mind I pay them in a later date?”
“How long would it take you to earn five hundred?”
“Around a month.”
“Why that long?!”
“I need to sell baluts, you know. Also, I only depend on my personal allowance. The money I earn selling baluts is for the house goods and my future savings.”
“This won’t work.”
“You have a better plan?” Chiko asked.
“Actually I do.”
“Really!?”
“Yeah, Beethoven – the present team captain of the school’s official sepak takraw team, told me after our match that we try the Sepak Takraw try out next week!”
“And?”
“If we pass the tryouts, we can be official sepak takraw athletes and represent the Madridejos Community College for athletic events!” Yang explained enthusiastically but Chiko still has a blank face. He seems to have not yet fully understood what it means to become an athlete. Yang sighed and added:
“In other words, if we pass the tryout, we will become athlete scholars with one hundred percent free tuition fees and would also get some school funds and basic allowances!”
“Wait..allowances? Do you mean, I get to save more money?” Chiko eyes shone brightly in an instant and suddenly became excited.
“You can put it that way.. that is if we can pass the try-outs though.” Yang stood up and patted his pants to remove the sticking grass. Chiko is already in a daze with his hand counting and mouth mumbling something.
“If I can pass these tryout… I will get an extra allowance and therefore… I will have more money to save!” Chiko stood up excitedly as well and faced Yang.
“Hey! I’m in!”
“Good! But you need to practice, although you have a good build and natural Sepak Takraw talent, you need to know more about the rules and regulations of the Sepak Takraw Sport.”
“Yeah, you are right! But, how do I start?” Chiko asked helplessly. He knows he does not have any experience for a real Sepak Takraw match so he may have to start with the basics.
“Well, first we can start by practicing the basics. Meet me here tomorrow after classes and I will teach you what you need to know to prepare for the tryout.” Yang said sincerely.
“That is so cool! I might have to go now Yang, I still have class.”
“What course did you enrolled?”
“My late grandmother told me to learn the new technologies so I decided to enroll in Information Technology.”
“So we have the same course!”
“That is great!” Chiko replied excitedly.
“You don’t have a dream of your own? Like being an engineer or a police perhaps?” Yang asked.
“My grandmother’s dream is my dream.” Chiko replied full of smile.
Yang was struck suddenly by Chiko’s words. He remembered these exact words from a very important figure from his past. His mind wandered back in time and he can vaguely remember a girl in his hands. She was dying and covered in blood.
“Go and fulfill your dream. As long as you continue to dream, your dream will be my dream…” It was her last dying words and her eyes closed slowly while her breath completely stopped.
