Maiden Of The Splitting Moon - Chapter 722: Where is the Ring?
“There’s the Muhou Troupe but who are they fighting? Are they working for the one who ordered this? It’s possible but… why would they be fighting?” she wondered.
With the fight still going fiercely, neither group noticed this third party until it was far too late. Still high in the sky, Ming Yue suddenly dove down with both blades out. Her speed skyrocketed as her body became a blur, blowing through the battle!
Like a falcon hunting, her swords were the claws that culled the lives of both sides. And her speed left behind a shockwave that blew everyone back.
“What just happened?!”
They all froze in shock after experiencing that but she came down again, killing off another two.
“Who is that?!” one of the guards shouted, “Could it be someone else aiming for the ring?”
The masked members of the Muhou Troupe shared a brief look before suddenly throwing out bombs. With several bangs, thick smoke engulfed the meadows as they looked to finish the fight quickly.
Better to get rid of the weaker enemies first than deal with both threats at the same time.
However, Ming Yue saw through it.
“Hmph, this is nothing compared to Hei Yue’s fog.”
She flew into the smoke, moving as if it didn’t affect her at all. The cultivator made quick work of the rest of the Muhou Troupe, leaving the guards of that mysterious young master alive.
All they could hear was the sound of a sword cutting through armor and flesh. Gathering together, the guards escaped the smoke and kept their swords out, pointing back at it.
Soon there was silence as the last of the masked members perished and Ming Yue casually strolled out, staring at the guards. Their faces turned a bit white, seeing the blood staining her clothes and weapons.
If that wasn’t enough, the gap in strength was immense.
“This… a Sky Realm Expert?” one of them muttered out loud.
As soon as one of them figured it out, the others quickly understood their position. There were still a number of them but winning against Ming Yue was not a definite result.
The young cultivator just stood there with both swords lowered. She eyed the guards silently, watching as they all took a step back out of fear. Giving them a moment, she spoke.
“Tell me, do you know where the ring is?”
None of them answered immediately. After all, doing so meant betraying their master and that could lead to some unfortunate consequences. But when faced with the threat of death before them, things didn’t seem so clear anymore.
But one of them pointed their sword at her, staying loyal to their master.
“Why should we tell you?! Who are you to demand answers from us?!” they told her.
Ming Yue looked straight into their eyes, staring at them with a blank face. The guard opened his mouth but couldn’t utter a single word. However, she had something to say to him, to all of them.
“You don’t have to tell me but you also will not leave here alive.”
The smoke dispatched by the Muhou Troupe had finally gone away, revealing the bloody scene she left behind her. The masked members of that very troupe were laid out on the ground, blood pooled around their bodies. For some, their masks had fallen off their faces, revealing dead looks.
A few had their heads cut off cleanly and others had a single stab wound through their chest.
It was a chilling sight to see. Even more so with Ming Yue standing there and staring at them. In their minds, she looked like a crazed killer.
“I… I…”
The guard struggled to say anything, they couldn’t even think of anything to say.
“If you have nothing to say then there is no point in speaking.”
Ming Yue spun Blood Moon around, letting the blood fly off, Some of it even landed on some of the guards. At the same time, a dangerous aura came out of her.
It was a dreadful feeling, a chilling sensation that seemed to drain the guards of their strength. The grip on their swords loosened and their legs began to shake and buckle.
They were all experienced warriors who had gone through life-and-death situations but they are guards now. When was the last time they had truly fought with their lives on the line? When had they come across someone as terrifying as her?
They did their best to steel themselves, trying to prepare for a fight.
Ming Yue slowly took a step towards them, coming closer while brandishing both swords. She could see the fear in their eyes, the hesitation was as clear as day.
It wouldn’t be long until one of them would break.
And one of them did.
“Fine, I’ll tell you! Our master went there and one of the Muhou Troupe Members is chasing after him!” he revealed.
The others all looked at him in shock while he just pointed in the direction they had gone. He had looked down at the ground, with his eyes closed. If she wasn’t going to kill him, his comrades would’ve done it.
But it didn’t happen.
“Thank you.”
Without saying anymore, Ming Yue flew off with Xiao Yin and Hei Yue following her.
The guard that had broke opened his eyes and looked at his fellow guardsmen. All of them looked at him with shock and disappointment.
“Why would you say it?” one of them asked him, “You know what will happen if he dies right? It’ll be our heads next!”
He just looked at them all with defeated eyes.
“So what? Either we die here or we die later. At least like this, we can escape”, he reasoned, “Besides, that rich bastard still has his carriage. Do you think she could break through its defenses?”
The other guards had nothing to say. He was right but now they had other things to worry about.
“We should leave, split up and escape before anyone else comes!” said another guard.
They all nodded, going their separate ways after dumping the armor they were given. Soon the area was empty, there was nothing else but the bodies of the Muhou Troupe and the pile of abandoned equipment.
It was a good choice that they had left for others did come.
Among them were the experts sent by the Chamber of Gold and the Splendid Goose himself.
“Look at this, what happened here? Who killed them all?”
Seeing the carnage, they had nothing but questions on their mind.
“This armor… it seems kind of familiar, do you know whose it is?”
The next thing they checked was the abandoned armor and one of them did recognize it.
“This… this is the armor of the Raven Guards. They are the personal guards of the Tang Trading Group. They’re the ones who’ve been growing explosive in the past few years. With the Calamity that nearly destroyed the continent followed by the end of the war in the Demon Continent, they’ve been moving quite strategically, using these events as opportunities to grow”, one of them explained.
“The Tang Trading Group? They’re just a group of caravans that mainly deliver goods! What would they want with the ring?” another asked.
They all then turned to the Splendid Goose who studied the armor with interest. He held a piece in his hands, turning it around and looking at every single detail.
He looked up, seeing their curious eyes waiting for his input.
“Well the Tang Trading Group, eh? If it’s them then I think I know what they wanted from me. Rather, what the head of the group wants from me”, he said.
“What? What did you have that they’d want from you?” they asked.
The Splendid Goose chuckled before answering.
“A key”, he said, “A key to their inheritance.”
