Maiden Of The Splitting Moon - Chapter 725: Death God
That was all he said when looking at them all. This one figure stood firm and his expression was still as cold as before.
The Splendid Goose smiled, no doubt amused and impressed.
“Heh, the Muhou Troupe certainly lives up to their name, determined to complete the mission to the last man. You certainly prepared, aside from ambushing me and taking my treasure you had a countermeasure for nearly everything”, he said.
He furrowed one brow while lifting the other.
“From the tracking talismans that I had to the possibility of betrayal by your client, you were prepared for it. So tell me, what is to stop me or anyone of us from just killing you and taking it from your dead body?” he questioned.
The Muhou Troupe Leader promptly answered.
“It isn’t on me but you’re welcome to kill. That ring you covet so much will never be found.”
Everyone raised a brow when they heard those words while the Splendid Goose roared out in laughter.
“Gahahaha! Do you think those words will stop me? Who do you think I am?! I hunt treasure! Do you think that’s enough to convince me?!” he responded.
“No, but unlike you, there are those in urgent need of the treasure you have. I’m sure that they do not have the patience to wait”, the troupe leader pointed out.
The famed treasure hunter grinned, looking at the troupe leader.
“Interesting, how interesting! The Muhou Troupe certainly is a scary bunch. So then, you’re willing to part with the ring for a price, eh? Well then name it! What price do you ask for?”
When met with this question, the troupe leader was quiet. But he asked a question soon after.
“You said ‘determined to the last man’. Does that mean that the rest of them are dead?”
The Splendid Goose was seemingly at a loss for words and no one else was able to speak up to answer. But all of their eyes were on Ming Yue, the famed “Fairy of the Moon”.
And she answered.
“Yes, I killed them all.”
The troupe leader looked at her.
“I see. In that case, the one who kills her will get the ring. That is the price.”
Things turned dead silent as the stares on Ming Yue continued. She looked around, staring back at them. There was hesitation in their eyes but there was no doubt that they were considering it.
The situation could turn for the worse at any moment.
Aside from the Splendid Goose and the team sent by the Chamber of Gold, the others were just hired to retrieve the ring. If getting the ring meant having to kill her, that was what they had to do but were they willing to do it?
Some of them started to get a bit restless, opening and closing their fists.
Were they willing to go head-to-head with her? Were they confident in winning?
But then, these thoughts were interrupted by the galloping of horses. Tang Bi Gan’s face lit up in delight as he smiled.
“Ahahaha! They’re here! They’re here! My army!” he cried out.
Off to the distance was a splotch of black, moving in unison. As they came closer, one would find that this splotch was in fact hundreds of armored warriors, riding to their master on black horses.
“Ah, there they are, the private forces of the Tang, the Shaqi Ravensguard.”
The Splendid Goose looked at them, unbothered by their appearance. Meanwhile, the young master of the Tang Trading Group couldn’t be happier. Despite the knife to his neck, he glared at Ming Yue.
“What are you going to do now, bitch?! With my men here, do you think that you’ll be able to get out of this alive?! If I kill you, I’ll get the ring for myself!” he said to her.
He laughed victoriously before suddenly stopping. His body twitched for a few seconds as blood began to drip from a hole in his forehead. Opposite to him was Ming Yue who had pointed a finger right at the man, aimed for his head exactly where that hole was.
“Since it’s come to this point, why are you still alive?”
Lowering her hand, she moved on to the Muhou Troupe Leader, who let go of the dead man.
“What happens if I were to kill them all?” she asked him.
Suddenly all of that pressure that she had exuded was focused on him. Unlike the previous guards who shuddered and trambled under it, he was still unwavering. But he didn’t answer her question, he merely looked at him just as she looked back.
“A Sky Realm Expert…”
She thought this while sizing him up, checking to see just how strong this man was. But the young cultivator couldn’t see through all of it, all she knew was his general level of strength.
But that act of hers flipped the situation around.
“Alive or dead, you would’ve wanted to pit everyone against me, manipulate the situation into an unfavorable one for me. It can’t just be to avenge your comrades, is it? You can try to spin it that way but your eyes speak differently.”
She muttered quietly to him and he responded in kind.
“You’re right, the Muhou Troupe is much larger than you think. I am just the leader of one squad amongst a dozen others. We are all replaceable. You, the Fairy of the Moon, are someone we’ve always been wary of especially after the destruction of Redmist Sanctuary. We also know that the Ascetic is after your life.”
Ming Yue leaned forward, sticking a finger close to his throat.
“Then you should know, getting that ring is life or death to me. So, are you willing to wager that I live or die here?” she asked him.
For once, the troupe leader was beginning to crack just a bit, taking a very controlled breath to stay calm.
After all, she gave off a dangerous feeling, perhaps something more than dangerous. The blood on her hands was far more than he could imagine, far more than he could endure.
“A fairy… you seem more like a death god”, he said to her.
“It doesn’t matter what name you call me. Just answer the question.”
At the same time, the Shaqi Ravensguard were coming ever so closer. The others were already getting ready to fight. After all, with Tang Bi Gan dead, that army of his would not leave without someone’s blood.
Ming Yue kept staring straight into his eyes whilst raising her other arm up, pointing the Black Blade towards the sky.
Suddenly the clouds gathered and darkened, the sun was nowhere to be found. Thunder crackled and lightning flashed between them. The amount of power gathering slowly grew and grew and there was no end to it.
“What is she trying to do? Smite this place to destruction?”
“Should we try to stop her?”
“We could but imagine the backlash, all of that power isn’t going to suddenly disappear!”
The hired experts quickly spoke to one other, watching the situation grow out of hand. The armored warriors that were coming had slowed down, no doubt wary of the darkening skies.
Even with all of this happening, Ming Yue did not break her gaze from the Muhou Troupe Leader. Her eyes practically pierced his body and deep into the very core of his being. Suddenly, he was unsure of himself.
The Muhou Troupe has always prided itself in preparing for any situation and completing every job. But she was an unknown variable, appearing and disappearing at different points in time.
Ming Yue could see it in him, the doubt within him. And so she struck a deal with him.
“Give me the ring and I don’t have to spend the end of my days eradicating the Muhou Troupe. And I swear to you, the Muhou Troupe will be no more before the Ascetic gets to me. It is your choice unless you truly want to end up like the rest of your team.”
