Maiden Of The Splitting Moon - Chapter 738: Plan for Revenge
Bai Meng had a triumphant look as she faced off against Daji and the remaining guards. Cracking her whip once more, she pointed it at them.
“I’ve long known that you had plans to dispose of me. After all, you had little use for someone that did nothing but eat away at your resources. But just as you planned to use me from the very beginning, I too was thinking the same”, she said.
The guards pointed their swords at her while Daji took a step forward.
“Perhaps we underestimated you but try as you might, you cannot escape here alive”, said the masked figure.
Unlike the guards, Daji had no weapons, only their bare hands. But as they raised their hands into a fighting stance, sharp claws came out as the fur on their skin grew thicker.
“Daji reverted?” one of the guards muttered.
Indeed, knowing that this fight would not be an easy one, Daji had reverted to the first of seven stages, Primal Instinct.
Bai Meng could sense the change in the surrounding air, knowing that the fight wouldn’t be easy. But she wasn’t here for a fight, she was looking to escape. Cracking her whip once more, she smiled at them.
“Unfortunately, this place has lost its use. I doubt that we’ll cross paths but if we do… well, pray that you don’t.”
The woman cackled as she swung her whip, whisking herself out of the house in seconds. The guards could barely react but Daji moved in an instant, going after Bai Meng. With an outstretched arm, they reached for her clothes, just barely ripping them but they couldn’t grab tight.
But Daji didn’t stop there, sprinting out of the house, they chased after the woman who escaped onto the roof of one of the buildings.
Turning around, Bai Meng looked back at her pursuer while running off. Her whip cracked once more, striking at Daji multiple times. The black cloth that covered their body was torn at several points, revealing fur underneath. And then, the mask was knocked off, showing their real face.
It was the face of a woman whose eyes resembled that of a fox, black pupils with amber irises.
Having reverted, her face looked more fox-like with fur just barely growing out.
“Oh, what a beauty! Too bad you can’t catch me!”
Bai Meng taunted the fox-kin, before using her whip in a wild fashion. Instead of focusing on Daji, she attacked her surroundings, causing damage and mayhem all over the Huxian Tribe’s land.
Suddenly, warning bells rang everywhere as soldiers and guards gathered against this attacker.
But by then, she had already left the grounds, escaping into the wilderness with Daji at her tail. However, the unmasked fox-kin could only chase her for so long before needing to return.
She could only watch as Bai Meng ran off practically unscathed.
“Tch, I need to report this to the Tribe Leader.”
Daji soon returned to find her tribe fully mobilized to help clean up and start repairing the damage. She leaped down to the ground, picking up the mask that had been knocked off her face.
Releasing her first form, her appearance changed back and the claws in her hands retracted. Putting the mask back on, Daji went back to the main hall.
As for the one that had escaped, Bai Meng soon stopped once she realized that Daji no longer chased after her. Looking behind her and then checking her surroundings, she found a place to hide and rest, suddenly letting out a sigh of relief.
She looked tired. That escape had drained quite a bit of energy from her.
“Hah, I would’ve liked a bit more time to recuperate but… I suppose this was long enough”, she muttered to herself.
Although the woman looked quite exhausted, there was still a triumphant smile on her face.
“Still, I got out while I still could. The fact that they kept me alive for as long as they did was luck on my side. Even if they did keep me locked into a cage. Hmph, those sly bastards think luxury can sway my heart so easily. Keeping me fed, I just needed time to regain my power and refine my body.”
Raising a hand, she curled her fingers into a tight fist.
“Fortunately, I’ve gone back to the level of Earth Realm. Not quite my peak strength but not far from it either. Now then, what should I do next?”
Bai Meng thought about this carefully. Having spent a decent amount of time in the Beast Continent, she naturally knew the current situation and was quite familiar with what was happening. Now that she was no longer tied to the Huxian Tribe, her options were limitless.
“Maybe there’s another tribe I can make some offers to. I do have some information about the Huxian Tribe, things like their information network. Perhaps, that will be how I go about things, work with information.”
She narrowed her eyes, thinking about this possibility before deciding on it.
“Mm, this will work for now. But I should still focus on building my strength back up and then, going after the Sky Realm.”
Her eyes seemed to glow with determination as she moved onto other matters.
“Right, Ming Yue. She’s still alive. Perhaps, I should find out where she is. See what information about her is out there… what sort of weakness might she have? That little bitch has been in the way of my path to power. I should look for the Ascetic too. Where could that monstrous man be?”
She continued to ponder and plan, thinking about her next moves. In the next few months, Bai Meng would move in the shadows, gathering information and moving towards her goal step by step.
But before any of this, Elder Shen would soon return to the home of the Zodiacs with the letter in his hand. As he entered, he noticed Ming Yue in the courtyard, cultivating just as the moon was setting and a new day was about to begin.
Her eyes fluttered open when she noticed his arrival and she stood up to greet him.
“Did you take care of your business?” she asked him.
“Ergh, not quite.”
The Elder seemed a bit awkward as he held the letter out.
“I haven’t looked at it yet but it’s from the Huxian Tribe. It seems that they would like to offer you something if you choose to join their side. It has something to do with Cheng Wei”, he told her.
She furrowed her brows, looking at the letter before turning to the Elder.
“Let’s go inside and look at it.”
Together, they walked back inside and opened the letter. Reading through it, Ming Yue found it somewhat incredulous as evidenced by the surprised look on her face.
“This… they were going to use this?” she asked aloud, “How can it be that they already know what I’m looking for?”
The Elder looked at her before examining the letter.
“Hmm, it looks like they have a very good grasp of information. They must have eyes and ears everywhere.”
“But to just tell us that they knew our every move and are telling us this, it seems more like a threat than an invitation”, she reasoned.
“It does but that also means that they may already know where Cheng Wei is. Revealing the extent of their strength, perhaps this is their way of showing off.”
Despite that reasoning, Ming Yue could only shake her head. It didn’t sit right with her to join hands with a tribe like this.
“There’s no guarantee that they have the answers I need. This could very well be some sort of trap.”
Elder Shen gave it some thought, knowing that what she said was also a possibility.
“We should consult with Zhu Xie, perhaps he has a better understanding of this letter.”
