Maiden Of The Splitting Moon - Chapter 741: Heading North
The figure turned around, revealing itself to be another human like her. However, Ming Yue cared little for who they were.
Her pursuer was a young man who had a rather scared look on his face. He raised his hands up, surrendering to her sword before trying to pacify her with his words.
“I’m no one special, just someone who’s interested in you”, he said.
Unfortunately, it didn’t look like she would back down with such words.
“Interested in me? Why? Who wants to know? Choose your words wisely.”
Pressing her sword to his neck, the woman gave him a warning, making things very clear to him. The man laughed nervously as beads of sweat began to form on his forehead. It didn’t take much for him to crack.
“Alright, I’m with the Huxian Tribe, okay?”
Ming Yue raised a brow, although her guess was right, she still had some suspicions left.
“You answered so easily. How can I trust that response?” she asked.
He responded almost immediately, feeling the pressure of the sword grow stronger. A drop of blood even came out from the little wound the sword made.
“Of course it is! No matter what that tribe offers, my life is worth more than that!” he blurted out.
“You don’t believe me?! I have this! Proof that I’m with their tribe!”
He quickly fumbled through his pockets, taking out a small fox charm for her.
“Look! See! This is a little charm that they give to those who ally themselves with the Huxian Tribe! Everyone you meet will have it!” he quickly explained.
Ming Yue glanced at it before looking back at him, pulling her sword away from him.
“I won’t kill you but I do want to send a message to the tribe. Let them know that I decline their invitations and all future invitations from them.”
The man quickly got away from her, turning back to look at her in fear and surprise.
“You’re really going to let me go like this?” he asked, “You’re not going to kill me?”
Ming Yue just looked at him and scoffed.
“What use are you if you’re dead? If they decide to send someone else, I will have you hand deliver a head to them. Now go, before I change my mind.”
Her words sent a chill down his spine. Better yet, the look on her face was enough to frighten him.
She put her sword away while the man ran off. But before he did, he gave her his name.
“I am called Zhen Jing, I will take this as a lesson to never cross swords with you!”
Ming Yue didn’t really care much for his words but that decision was a very important one for him. Watching him go, she walked down the same path she came from, returning to the mansion where she saw people rushing in and out of it.
She furrowed her brows with slight confusion.
“Lao Yang is already moving in so quickly?!”
She wasn’t expecting this on such short notice and when she walked inside, Elder Shen was in the courtyard with Hongyu and the four beasts. They were all gathered together in one spot with the little girl almost hiding behind Elder Shen.
But when she saw Ming Yue, she came out and ran up to her with a big hug.
“Oh, did you have a good night’s sleep?” she asked.
Hongyu nodded before looking up at Ming Yue. The woman knelt down, lifting the girl up before bringing her over to the Elder.
“She woke up just a while after you left with Zhu Xie. But then all of these people started coming over and she is quite shy around strangers. But seeing this. I take it that things went well.”
Ming Yue nodded before recounting her talks with Lao Yang. Once she explained everything, Elder Shen stroked his beard in thought.
“In that case, we’ll be staying here until you come back?” he asked her.
“If you’d like but if you think that it’d be better to return to Heaven’s Gate, I’m sure Zhu Xie can take you back to the Reticent Fortress. I’ve already sent a warning to the Huxian Tribe. Whether or not they’re willing to follow it is another thing.”
“Hm, I see. In any case, I doubt we’ll be leaving any time soon. I am interested in talking to this Lao Yang, we might discover answers to Hongyu’s origins. Speaking of, I doubt that she is willing to leave without you.”
The Elder looked at the child who clung to Ming Yue quite tightly. The young cultivator looked down as well.
“I think so too”, she said.
Looking at the little girl, Ming Yue softly called for her attention.
“Hongyu, Hongyu, can you stay with Elder Shen for a while?”
The child looked up at her before looking at him.
“Yes, I have to leave for a little bit with Xiao Yin and Hei Yue but I’ll be back! I won’t take long, maybe a month but two at most. Is that okay?”
Hongyu took a moment to answer, nodding her head before letting go of Ming Yue. She then turned around and went to Elder Shen’s side before looking back at Ming Yue.
The young cultivator smiled before whistling, calling for the owl and fox to come to her side.
“You’re leaving now?” Elder Shen asked.
Ming Yue nodded, checking both beasts before looking over her own equipment.
“Yes, the quicker I go, the quicker I can come back”, she answered him.
Seeing as everything was in order. she turned to go before stopping as Hongyu opened her mouth.
“Be safe”
Ming Yue looked back and smiled.
“I will.”
Standing in the courtyard, she summoned a blade of wind and waked onto it, grabbing Xiao Yin and Hei Yue with her. She gave them one last look before flying off, heading straight for the North.
“Hah, I didn’t think I’d be headed back there again”, she muttered to herself.
The North didn’t hold many good memories for her. After all, that was where she brought Hongyu to after losing their original home. It was a rough journey as she had to care for the child.
Even if they managed to survive and build a new home for themselves, the North was not one of Ming Yue’s fondest places. Nevertheless, if she wanted to obtain the last piece of the pill and destroy the Everygreen Heart once and for all, she had to go there.
But where should she start?
Ming Yue thought about it carefully.
“If he were to hide in the North, where would he go?”
It was a fast area to search through and not even she had seen all of it. Ming Yue had to think of a starting point.
“Hmm, I guess I’ll stop at the house first. See how that place has been.”
She flew straight there, remembering the path towards it. Soon it came into sight, an empty wooden house that stood beside a small waterfall. Despite looking a little run down and dirty, it was still a beautiful sight.
The fact that it hadn’t been destroyed was proof enough that no beast dared to come.
Descending in front of the house, the blade of wind dissipated as they landed on the ground. Ming Yue looked at it, seeing the dust and cobwebs gathering in the nooks.
Both Xiao Yin and Hei Yue split up, looking around in interest.
The young cultivator then walked in, examining the inside to see what remained.
“Mm, most of the furniture remained as well as the dishes and bowls but…”
Looking around she felt that something was amiss. Things didn’t quite feel right.
“Hmm, I could’ve sworn had had one more chair and a few more bowls. There should’ve been five bowls but there’s only three. Could it be?”
