Maiden Of The Splitting Moon - Chapter 748: Ending a Chapter
The man nodded.
“Yes, but it seems that she has escaped my grasp once more”, he answered.
Bai Meng was silent, thinking about this current situation. She looked up at the Ascetic, gazing at the man curiously before finally saying something.
“I mean, she may have escaped but there are still ways to bring her to you. I’m sure that if you were to come to the Den and use the right people, she’ll come right back.”
It seemed that she had a plan cooking up in her mind but the Asceti didn’t seem to care much for it.
“There’s no point searching for her or doing anything, I’m sure she’ll come to me eventually”, he told her.
“Then what do you plan to do? Wander?” she asked him.
He just nodded.
“Indeed, I need to cleanse myself of the blood on my hands”, he explained, “As for you… you’ve gotten weaker… or rather you haven’t quite recovered yet.”
The woman sighed quickly recounting her experience.
“….in the end, I knew that she was the one behind it all but I was far too weak to do anything.”
The Ascetic just looked at her, assessing her current state.
“Hm, even at your level, it’d be impossible for you to contest against her. You’re better off focusing on your cultivation, pointless as it may be”, he said, “In any case, I should get going, walk wherever the path takes me.”
The woman just stared at him in silence. She knew that he was right but at the same time, she was trying to find out what to say.
“Of the Fourteen Evils, I was the best at manipulation! Using my looks to get what I wanted. But how you do manipulate someone whose goal is to be emotionless, detached from everything? What will get him to be interested in the Den?” she thought.
Her mind raced as the Ascetic no longer had anything to say.
“Wait! Even if you’re not going there to lure Ming Yue, I’m sure that you would be intrigued by it! After all, there is knowledge spanning thousands of years on this continent. None of it has been touched by human hands. I’m sure that when seeking enlightenment, that knowledge would serve you greatly. Besides, you may not need to do anything, just being there might be enough!”
She spoke quickly, practically running her mouth.
The Ascetic stopped in his tracks, turning around to look at her. It was just for a moment before he turned back to leave.
“Hmm, that knowledge may be helpful but…”
He suddenly moved, appearing right before her. His hand moved before Bai Meng could even react, grabbing her neck. Squeezing hard, she started to choke, grabbing his wrist and trying to pull him off.
“Agh, what… what are you doing?”
She was both shocked and afraid, not expecting this at all. As for the Ascetic, he just stared at her with those empty eyes.
“I’m no idiot, it’s not hard to see that you’re trying to use me. Who knows what you plan to do once I go there but it doesn’t quite matter what you do. After all, I had thought that Ming Yue was the only one left connecting me to Redmist Sanctuary after she had destroyed it but it seems like you survived. I would’ve let you go if you didn’t try to use me but, oh well.”
His had squeezed even tighter and Bai Meng struggled to escape from his grip. She did whatever she could to free herself, even grabbing her whip and striking him.
“You… bastard!”
Her whip cracked, striking him a dozen times. But no matter how hard she attacked, it didn’t even leave a scratch on his body. Even if it shredded his clothes, the man himself was untouched.
She grew more desperate, the whip lashed out again and again. Each time was quicker and rougher but her effort produced no results.
In the end, there was a single resounding snap as he crushed her neck, killing her. She shuddered and her eyes turned white. Her body went limp and without any hesitation, he tossed her to the side.
Leaving her on the ground, he finally turned to go.
“With that dealt with, I only have one more person tying me to Redmist Sanctuary. Once I end it, this chapter of my life will be done and I will be one step closer to the Immortal Realm.”
He flew off, heading towards the Den.
With the way he was, there was no doubt that he’d blend in. After, how well-known would he be in another continent?
As he made his way there, Ming Yue was headed straight for Heaven’s Gate. She didn’t stop until she arrived, slowly descending at the open gates.
She was panting, limping forward. Those that saw her were startled, both recognizing her but also surprised by the state she was in. The young cultivator didn’t even notice those looks, she quickly walked through the streets, entering the towering halls.
As she walked through the first floor, several figures quickly approached.
One was Elder Xiang while the other was Elder Hua, both were accompanied by multiple disciples. The Medicinal Elder was the first to reach her, examining her condition.
“Oh my, Ming Yue, what happened to you?!” she asked her.
Even Elder Xiang looked concerned.
“What happened? Is Hongyu safe?”
Ming Yue looked at the two elders before facing Elder Hua.
“I… I don’t have much time. Please, help me.”
The two elders looked at each other before they helped her stand up.
“Of course, come with us, you’re in no state to talk right now.”
As they brought her away, taking her to Elder Hua’s Medicinal Hall.
“Sit, and take this.”
The Medicinal Elder quickly handed her a pill along with a cup of water. Taking it, Ming Yue consumed the pill before drinking all of the water. As the pill entered her body, it dissolved filling her with a cool and refreshing sensation. All of a sudden, she could feel the exhaustion fade away while her injuries started to recover. But, she was still far from getting back to her full strength.
Still, it was enough.
Once she had recovered enough, she looked at the two elders who had been waiting for her. Looking at them, Ming Yue turned towards Elder Hua, handing her the pill recipe that the Crow Immortal gave her. Alongside that were all of the ingredients for that pill that she dumped on the floor.
Then she took off the Evergreen Heart Ring and tossed it in as the last item.
“This is everything on that paper, a recipe for a pill given to me by an Immortal. He saved me when the Ascetic came to take my life, giving this recipe when he sent me away. After searching for those ingredients, the last piece was in the Beast Continent. I found it but the Ascetic found me, I managed to escape with help but now I don’t have much time. This pill, it might be my only hope.”
While Elder Hua examined the recipe and checked the ingredients, Elder Xiang continued to question her.
“What about Hongyu and Elder Shen? Where are they?” he asked.
“They’re at the Den, safe with some trusted people. I sent Xiao YIn and Hei Yue back to them with a message. They should’ve received it and left by now.” Ming Yue told him.
The Medicinal Elder looked at her.
“Then… once this pill is made, what do you plan to do? The Ascetic… isn’t he at the Heaven Realm?”
Ming Yue was quiet when met with this question. For the first time in a long time, she was afraid of someone. The gap between them was too large. In fact, she was unsure of herself even with the help of the pill.
Even then, she had to say it.
“I will fight him.”
