Maiden Of The Splitting Moon - Chapter 750: Defending Against the Heavens
The Grand Elder’s golden barrier stood strong against the pill tribulation’s force but the lightning dragon had yet to disappear. Its jaws clamped down on the barrier as if trying to devoir it along with the rest of Heaven’s Gate.
Ming Yue watched the Grand Elder, who then made several hand motions and pushed his hands out.
The barrier glowed, pulsing with power as a wave of energy coming off of it, pushing the lightning dragon away. With its bit undone by the attack, the dragon hovered above everyone, staring down with its glowing eyes.
The spheres of energy that its claws held suddenly grew and merged into one massive orb. And this divine beast started to cycle around it, letting it grow and grow before condensing it. It happened a total of nine times, growing bigger before condensing over and over again.
“Reactivate the barriers! Not just the Four Gates and the Black Tortoise! All barriers this time!”
As this happened, the Grand Elder shouted out his orders while reinforcing his own barrier. Then, four more barriers were erected making it a total of five. While the Four Gates Formation and Black Tortoise Barrier were reactivated again, they were much weaker this time.
“I… I can help too.”
Seeing this, Ming Yue suddenly took off the Dusk Lily Pin, placing it in her hands. Sitting back down cross-legged, she closed her eyes and focused, feeding the pin her energy. It glowed before producing a small white barrier around her body. From there, it grew and grew until it enveloped the entire city.
It wasn’t quite as impressive as the other barriers but it was better than doing nothing at all.
Their preparations were completed just as the lightning dragon completed its ninth cycle. The orb of red lightning let off a dangerous aura, it had enough power to wipe this entire place from existence.
The dragon stopped circling around it and moved behind the orb. It roared once more and with its mouth wide open, it shot straight back down with the orb within its jaws.
It took a second for the lightning dragon to break through the first barrier. The second barrier lasted a full ten seconds while the third and fourth barriers combined lasted that same amount.
When it came to the Grand Elder’s barrier, it lasted much longer than the other ones. As someone at the peak of the Heaven Realm, he could match the lightning dragon’s power!
Floating between the barrier and his city, he had his hands out and maintained his defense. He looked up at the beast, staring it straight in the eyes.
He took a deep breath before chanting.
“Life overflows from the well of the void, It cascades from the stone, it floods the empty world, cascading like a waterfall, Overflowing Vibrance!”
A glowing golden aura emerged from his body as the barrier he created, glowed with brilliant ferocity. Despite that, the lightning dragon took no steps back.
The red sphere in its mouth trembled as lightning shot out of it, spreading all over the barrier. There was constant thundering as the land surrounding Heaven’s Gate turned black. Every tree, grass, and bush, all of it turned to ash with embers glowing on the ground.
But the barrier stood strong, enduring this tribulation.
However, there was a limit to one a single person can do and the barrier began to show signs of breaking. Cracks began to show and Elder Huang’ figure seemed to falter.
“Damn, reactive whatever defenses you can, match it with the sixth barrier!” he shouted.
People scrambled, trying to reactivate the formation, repairing them as quickly as possible.
The barrier cracked even more, down to the very edge of it. At the same time, Elder Huang continued to struggle, his arms trembled under the strain. For one person to go against the will of the Heavens was already an awe-inspiring sight, even more so with the sheer power being shown. How many could defend against such a powerful attack?
His eyes switched between Ming Yue’s barrier and his own, waiting and watching for the right moment. The barrier started to shake, and pieces of it began to fragment and disintegrate into energy.
Everyone watched, holding their breath at the attack, none of them moved from where they stood. All of them had faith in the Grand Elder, he was an immovable pillar, a reliable power to them.
Seconds passed as the barrier’s integrity continued to fall, and things continued to grow unstable.
And that orb of energy within the dragon’s mouth constantly discharged lightning everywhere. Just as the Grand Elder struggled against the beast, it had grown weaker. Its body had shrunk to a third of its size and continued to grow smaller and smaller as the orb continued to release more lightning.
But it was clear that the barrier would break first. Sure enough, it did break, shattering into millions of pieces and the lightning dragon descended onto Ming Yue’s barrier.
“Damn it!”
The Grand Elder retreated behind the barrier while clutching his chest, letting a bit of blood drip out of his mouth.
He looked back up, preparing to put up another barrier.
Sensing the oncoming danger, Ming Yue suddenly forced all of her energy into the Dusk Lily Pin, making the barrier even stronger. At the same time, the other barriers were reactivated. They were weaker than before but merging with her barrier gave it enough strength to stop the lightning dragon’s assault.
“Come on! Give up already!”
Ming Yue pushed herself as much as she could.
“We just have to last until Elder Hua completes the pill.” she thought to herself.
It wouldn’t be long now.
The Medicinal Elder was still focused on the cauldron, watching it closely. Her eyes widened as she saw the mixture swirl, gathering in the middle.
“It’s almost ready!”
All of that refined energy gathered and condensed into the shape of a pill. It just had to solidify.
But would the combined barriers last long enough?
It was already beginning to show signs of breaking, cracks began to form and Ming Yue could feel her strength being drained. Even the Dusk Lily Pin struggled against the surging energies.
“Nearly there!” Elder Hua shouted, “It’s almost ready!”
She took out a pair of tongs, readying herself to grab the pill out the moment it was fully formed.
“You better be right!” Elder Xiang shouted back.
He had already unsheathed his sword with his one hand, ready to take the lightning dragon if needed.
The merged barriers continued to crack even further, the edges started to break away as small bolts of lightning broke through.
They struck the buildings, leaving behind a thunderous boom and a blackened mark.
However, the main attack was still being held back, the dragon and its orb of lightning trying to pierce the top of the barrier.
Just when it seemed like the barrier would break, the churning water of the cauldron suddenly stopped as turned clear, revealing a single pill.
Elder Hua’s eyes flashed as the tongs moved forward, grabbing the pill and lifting it up!
“It’s done!”
The moment, she revealed the pill to the room, the red skies suddenly shined before returning to it’s original blue state.
The dragon pulled away though it seemed to struggle. It looked indignant as if wanting to continue this struggle to the end.
The moment the pill was out, the tribulation ended just like that. Everyone was quiet, both inside and outside of Heaven’s Gate.
Ming Yue immediately released the barrier, opening her eyes before breathing out. In that moment, she relaxed and her eyes went towards the pill within Elder Hua’s tongs.
“Is that it?” she asked, “Is that the pill?”
It was still steaming from its creation, a fresh pill from the pot. Its color was devoid of any luster. Instead, it was a dim white pill.
