Maiden Of The Splitting Moon - Chapter 770: Thinking of a Gift
“Girl? Ming Yue? Ming Yue, is everything alright?”
Senior Zhen’s voice turned hazy before clearing up and she turned her attention back to the spirit.
“I’m fine, it’s nothing… just… there’s a lot to think about”, she said to him.
The elderly spirit turned quiet, letting out a small sigh.
“Whatever it is, I’m sure that you can overcome.”
Afterward, his spiritual form dissipated, returning to the sword while Ming Yue sat in bed silently pondering about the future.
“Xue Yue, what do you think?” she asked, looking at Hongyu instead of Blood Moon.
“I go where you go and I’ll die when you die, that’s how it’s always been”, she answered.
Unlike Senior Zhen, Xue Yue was still connected to Ming Yue, they knew each others thoughts. Hearing this from her other self, the woman felt some relief, some assurance. She moved her hand over Hongyu, gently stroking the child’s cheek.
“That’s how it’s always been…” she muttered.
As the new day began, both of them got dressed early in the morning.
“Come on everyone, we need to go to Luan City early to help Elder Fei and the others with the celebrations.”
While Ming Yue and Hongyu were up, the three beasts were having a little trouble waking up at such a time.
“He’s still not up?”
The woman turned towards the house and walked back in. While Liang Wei and Xiao Yin joined them outside the house, Hei Yue was still curled up inside. She smiled, walked up to the fox, and knelt down. Placing her hand on the beast’s warm body, she gently rocked Hei Yue awake.
“Come on, wake up.”
Slowly but surely, the fox opened its eyes and awakened its slumber. It yawned, looking around before noticing Ming Yue, who stood back up.
“Come on, Hei Yue, we’re heading to the city.”
She waited for him to stretch and yawn once more before heading out together. With everyone gathered together, Ming Yue made sure that everything was settled in the house before leaving. Conjuring a large sword of wind, she brought everyone on top of it before flying off.
Soaring through the air, she suddenly thought of something.
“Right, the gift”, the woman muttered.
“Hmm, what should I get?” she wondered, “There should be two gifts, one for Elder Fei and Aunt Cui, one for Fei Xian and his wife.
It wasn’t as if she had forgotten about it until the last minute but rather, she just didn’t know what to get them.
“I shouldn’t get them any ordinary treasure. But I can’t just randomly pick, it will be a problem if it is not a good fit with the children later on. Mm, let me see.”
She looked through her spatial rings, seeing what would be a nice gift for them.
“Maybe something to bolster their health?”
Looking through what she had, it was mostly things that would benefit her, treasures that improved one’s control over the Wind and Lightning Dao.
“What about these?”
She then brought out some peach seeds, looking at them with a thoughtful gaze.
“These were from the Heaven’s Peach Tree, it might make a good gift.”
Although they wouldn’t yield results immediately, it would certainly be helpful in the future. Not to mention, a peach tree would add more life to the tea shop’s courtyard. And since it’d produce more than one peach, the would be enough for the family, let alone the children.
“Hmm, but it wouldn’t be difficult to grow right?”
Ming Yue started to doubt her choice, putting the seeds away for the moment.
“Giving them my old equipment wouldn’t be a good idea either.”
Thinking, she looked down below her, watching the land blur past her. Watching the countless trees go by, Ming Yue thought hard about the gift she wanted to send. What could she give that would be meaningful to them?
It was hard to figure it out but in the end, she couldn’t think of anything.
The group arrived at the city gates, getting off the blade of wind which dispersed almost immediately. As it was still early in the day, things were on the quieter side. Street stalls were still being set up and many folks still looked a bit drowsy.
Ming Yue went through the streets at a quick pace, heading straight for the tea shop.
She was still a short distance away but she knew exactly where it was. especially with all of the decor at the storefront.
Stopping just a few meters short, she stared at them, seeing numerous floral displays with messages of congratulations and whatnot.
“Maybe I should’ve had something like that for this”, she muttered.
“Ming Yue, is that you?”
A woman’s voice called out to her from the doorstep of the tea shop. Ming Yue looked up, seeing Aunt Cui standing there with a smile and a baby in her arms. Looking at the bundled-up newborn, Ming Yue pointed.
“Is that…”
Aunt Cui nodded before she could even finish, walking up to the woman to show her.
“This is Fei Xing or Xing’er, my second daughter”, she introduced, showing Ming Yue the baby.
The woman looked seeing the tiny figure wrapped in numerous cloths. The child’s eyes were barely open and its skin seemed a bit wrinkled. Xing’er didn’t move much, most likely asleep.
“She seems so… fragile.”
Ming Yue spoke softly.
Without even thinking she moved her finger towards the baby, hovering it over the little hand. Suddenly, the baby’s hand opened, grabbing her finger, barely able to wrap her little fingers around that one finger.
Aunt Cui smiled before noticing the others looking up at her curiously.
“Do the rest of you also want to see? Come, come, but be gentle”, she told them.
Kneeling down, she showed Hongyu and the others her daughter. While the little girl looked with wonder, the three beasts circled around Xing’er, sniffing and looking with interest.
“Okay, alright, come inside! We’re still in the middle of getting everything ready!”
Aunt Cui chuckled before turning around and going back into the tea shop while Ming Yue’s group followed her in. The moment they walked in, Ming Yue immediately noticed Fei Xian and his wife huddled together, looking over a carriage.
Hearing their steps, Fei Xian turned around and saw Ming Yue, smiling almost immediately.
“Ah, Ming Yue! It’s good to see you!” he exclaimed, “Come, look, it’s my son, Yang’er!”
He quickly turned back to the carriage, looking at Ming Yue and waiting for her to come over. The cultivator abided and looked over it, staring at the baby. Compared to Xing’er, this one seemed a bit older. His skin wasn’t as wrinkly and his cheeks were much fuller.
“Yang’er was born a month before Xing’er, strangely enough, she’s going to be his aunt.”
Aunt Cui walked to their side, telling Ming Yue this with a little laugh.
“Ah but I’m sure they’ll both be talented!” said Fei Xian, “Certainly I will have them learn the sword!”
Ming Yue smiled before looking over at the kitchen.
“Is Elder Fei there?” she asked, “What about Rou’er?”
“Yes, Fei Yun is in the kitchen. He’s been there practically all night long preparing a feast. As for Rou’er, she hasn’t come back yet. Her experiential training should’ve ended a few days ago so she should be coming back soon”, said Aunt Cui.
“Mm, in that case, I’m going to see how Elder Fei is doing.”
She headed towards the kitchen and walked in to find him hard at work, manning multiple stoves at once. There was a rush of heat coming at her along with the scent of over a dozen dishes.
Despite all that, he noticed her the minute she walked in.
“Ah, you’re here! And so early too!”
Ming Yue smiled.
“Congratulations”, she said to him.
