Marriage By Fire: All Hands On Deck - Chapter 36
When Ki Mirabelle was away studying abroad, a phone call at early hours of the morning changed everything. The illegitimate daughter of KiMyr Corp was told that she had to fly back home to pay her final respect to her grandfather who had just passed away in his sleep from cancer! Who would have thought that her quick trip home would turn out to be her posing as the heir of KiMyr Corp?
——————–
It was 1 am in the morning when Ki Mirabelle saw a number on her phone which resembled the one used by those back home. Not sure who could be calling, she then decided to pick up the call to know who it was.
“Hi….”
“Is this Miss Ki Mirabelle? I’m speaking to Miss Ki Mirabelle. Right?!”
Surprised that the person that called knew her by name, Ki Mirabelle’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Erm….Yes…I’m Ki Mirabelle and you are?”
This time her tone became guarded, as she didn’t want to give too much away without knowing the identity of the person on the other line.
“It me, Han Yi! I’m President’s Ki Guchang’s secretary! The President passed away yesterday night, in a private reading of his will….you were appointed as the new President by the late President Ki Guchang! This is a secured line that I’m speaking to you on, I have made arrangements for you to return to Beijing today!”
Not been able to have a full 5 hours sleep for 3 consecutive days, Ki Mirabelle’s head was pounding harder than usual on hearing the shocking news of her grandfather’s demise.
“Grandfather Ki is dead?! He had cancer?! Why didn’t anyone tell me that he passed away?! I was here and no one told me that he was dying! Why?!!!”
At that point, Ki Mirabelle broke down and let out a heartwrenching cry. Within her, the illegitimate daughter to the President of KiMyr Corp knew why her grandfather’s illness wasn’t disclosed to her, what right did someone like her have when she was born out of wedlock?
“Miss Ki Mirabelle, please check your email for your flight itinerary to Beijing. This can’t be delayed any longer! The board of director’s are already uneasy by the President’s death….I’m sure you understand what I mean by this.”
Rather than offering words of comfort, Han Yi was all business as he told the newly appointed President of KiMyr of what awaited her if she delayed in making a decision to return home.
“Isn’t there someone else that could take over? What about father? Shouldn’t he be willing to step in and take over the company?!”
Ki Pengfei did the bȧrė minimum for his daughter, by putting her in the family registry and sending a yearly allowance to his mistress for the upkeep of their child. Hardly had Ki Mirabelle seen her father during her growing years as a child, but she refused to resent him for abandoning her and her mother.
“Director Ki has been the acting president when President Ki was on sick leave, but now that the will legally states that you are to take over as the new President…..you may have to go to court to relinquish your rights to him.”
“I don’t mind going to court, because I don’t think I’m suited to run a company, but let me speak to my mom about it.”
Thinking that what she said would buy her time to worm her way out of the sticky situation. Ki Mirabelle was not prepared to hear what the secretary of her grandfather had to say next.
“Miss Ki Mirabelle, your mother Ms. Fu Peijun is in full support of the decision to become the President of KiMyr Corp. I reached out to her first, before calling you.”
