Marriage with an Idol - Chapter 1:Prologue
The snow had come crashing down and piled up on the roads earlier. Sometimes, the snow fell at the speed of lightning and sometimes it just fell gently and slowly kissing the ground. Snow had entirely iced the city. It is believed to be good luck if it snows on Christmas Eve. I wonder who this luck and magic will work on tonight?…
I slowly moved away from the window and started gathering the scattered paper from the table. There was a long meeting earlier today and to be honest I felt bad for keeping everyone at the office to finish this project.
As soon as the meeting had finished, I told everyone that they could leave and that I will handle everything by myself. As soon as they heard the words come out of my mouth, they didn’t even waste a single moment in leaving. I gathered up all the papers and left the office after tidying up everything. No one was around except the guard at the door. Everyone must have had plans tonight and once again I was the one without any plans…
“You have stayed till late?” the guard asked me while I was leaving through the doors. It would have been rude if I had just left, so I turned around and smiled to answer him…
“Yes… there was some important work that needed to be finished tonight…” I replied with a smile plastered on my face.
What a lame lie… lots of work? More like I had nothing to look forward to on this cold Christmas Eve…
“You are a hard worker. But wouldn’t your boyfriend or husband be angry since you have stayed late?” The guard continuously bombarded me with painful question… Men are not everything a woman needs in her life. We can be happy without love as well…
“Yeah… something like that…” I laugh and walk away while trying my best to avoid any more upcoming love related question…
The snow fell gently on the streets and everywhere you looked, there were couples. Arms locked together and some staring at each other’s faces. I wonder what they look at when they stare at each other… I brought the scarf closer to my nose to stop it from getting colder and redder. A sudden gust of wind picked up the snow from the ground and started spreading it around. I walked at faster pace to hurry home. I had forgotten to bring my umbrella and it looked like the snow will get heavier now. But then again, I don’t think the umbrella will be much of a help in this weather…
A gust of wind came again and blew a paper near my feet which had later gotten stuck at the bottom of my shoe. Everything was just starting to annoy me. A paper stuck under my shoe… Am I trash can or what? I knew it… Christmas or any other romantic special occasions were not my kind of thing…
I let out a deep sigh through my scarf and bent down to remove the paper. The bright colours on the paper attracted my attention and before I threw it away I was overwhelmed by the temptation to look at it… So I looked at the paper and there it said in huge capital letters…
“THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS IS YOURS… FIND OUT WHAT GIFT YOU RECEIVED!”
And then below the capital letters, it had a little headline running through. For a second, I thought it was moving. I closed my eyes and opened them again, so I could concentrate better. In the headline below, the words popped out and stuck like an arrow to me…
“You will find what you HAVE been most desperate for!!”
What have I been most desperate for? I thought to myself and laughed at my own answers to the question. Love. A partner. Monsta X’s Latest Album. Concert tickets.
I started to list down everything in my head and before I could think of more things, the snow started to falling faster. I put away the paper in my bag and quickly walked towards my apartment.
I walked up to my street and stopped to look at Christmas lightning… for some reason, I wanted things to go slowly but quickly at the same time. Once again the snow started to fall gently…
I looked towards my apartment building. I was lucky to find this place, it’s really close to work my place so it doesn’t take much time for me to walk. All the lights were turned off in the apartments except one apartment. I guessed that the person in the apartment must have had nothing to do like me. I laughed for a second but stop at the thought of myself. I had nothing to look forward to either and soon my apartment lights too will be glowing miserably…
I slowly started walking towards the entrance of the building…
Wait!
A sudden realisation hit me like a thunder. I looked up at the building and started counting the floors…
One, Two, Three, Four… Four….
That’s my apartment. Why are the lights turned on in my apartment??? It couldn’t possibly be a thief but then again, theft is a rare case in this area. I quickly rushed towards inside the building and started pressing the button of the lift urgently…
Come on… Come on… Hurry!!!
As soon as the door to lift opened, I threw myself inside the lift and quickly press the button to close the doors. Thousands of ideas came to my mind on how to handle the thief….
Should I call the police??
My heartbeat started to increase and all I could hear was the sound of my heart running…
But then again, what if it’s Mum that came over for Christmas?… The lift arrived at my floor and I stepped outside and walked towards my apartment.
I was surprised to find my apartment door locked and there was nothing broken on the outside. That meant it might have been Mum since she was the only one who has a spare key to my apartment. I feel so relieved after seeing my lock completely fine. And my heartbeat started to slow down… Thank God I wasn’t robbed on Christmas Eve… it would have been a hell of situation for me to handle…
I opened the lock and step inside. I look around the living room and everything is cleaned up. The towel I had left on the sofa in morning was not there anymore. Guess Mum must have picked it up…
I hoped she doesn’t yell at me for it though. My nose started to detect the smell of delicious food cooking in the kitchen. I took off my coat, scarf and shoes and simply dumped them on sofa like I had always done. I kept my shoes on since I couldn’t be bothered to take them off…
I took out the bubble from my hair and threw it into my bag that’s on the sofa… I didn’t even look back to see if the hair bubble made it’s goal or not and started walking towards kitchen. I walked towards the kitchen with my hair loose and my shirt out… as I was walking I caught my reflection in the mirror and laughed at the sight of myself. I looked like a drunk person.
My nose and cheeks were slight red from the cold weather and since I took the shirt out from my pants it definitely made me look like a drunk person…. I walked into the kitchen while stretching my arms above my head and then scratching my head…
“Mum…”
And the second word didn’t come out of my mouth, because I was totally blown away by the sight in front of me and trust me it’s not the food…
In my kitchen…
A member….
Of Monsta X…
I know I am crazy about them, but I can’t be dreaming right now…
Before I could say anything, I complete froze by the words he said…
