Married To A Savage Duke - Chapter 16.1
“Are you shy? Was I too honest?”
Cherryl was a little surprised.
He didn’t seem ashamed to talk about the chemistry between a man and a woman.
Cade even dared to admit his body was excited.
However, when she saw the tall and muscular handsome man blushing and unable to make eye contact, Cherryl smiled a little.
“Then I’ll be back, Your Grace.”
Back in her room, she changed her clothes first.
Since then, she had packed some clothes, large and small items, and other necessary things in her suitcase.
Cherryl had lived here for more than twenty years and all her luggage was quickly filled in.
But, somehow she felt empty.
“I can’t believe you’re leaving for good, My Lady. I can finally feel it.”
Cherryl held Lucy’s shoulder drooping in disappointment.
“I want you to go with me but at the same time, I don’t want you to be there.”
“I want to be with you, My Lady.”
“The wildlings live near the borders of Carlsvik. It’s a dangerous place so I can’t take you with me.”
Natasha had shamed Lucy many times for taking care of Cherryl like her own family.
Her stepmother might bully Lucy after Cherryl left for the North.
She will feel even lonelier once Natasha started playing childish tricks on her.
Cherryl didn’t want to separate from her maid, as well.
She cared about Lucy more than anyone else in this mansion but she couldn’t dare ask for her company out of greed.
Could Lucy——born and raised in the warm countryside of the Central Region——survive well in the North?
What if she found the conditions devastating to live in?
Rumors said that it wasn’t only wild-lings but strange creatures were also spotted living beyond the borders.
You shouldn’t have hoped for Lucy’s company, leaving for a dangerous place where you can’t guarantee your life.
In addition to that, the Marquis would never allow his household maid to go with a daughter he didn’t love.
“I had to leave this place because I had no choice.”
This space might have filled her with happiness once upon a time but it’s time for her to leave.
Her beloved mother was the only reason why she wanted to stay here but she was already dead.
She had to accept it was the turning point and start moving on with her life.
“Nothing bad will happen to you so don’t worry, My Lady. I think the Grand Duke’s companions, Lecter and Cole, are better than they look.”
Cade, who had dyed his earlobes red, and his entourage, who felt like the younger brothers she never had, suddenly crossed her mind.
Hopefully, her future with them wouldn’t be that disastrous.
“Let’s write to each other more often, Lucy. Please take care and let me know if anything happens.”
“Yes, My Lady.”
Lucy picked her luggage up.
The two crossed the familiar corridor and descended to the first floor.
Cade had waited silently at the bottom of the staircase as Cherryl had requested him to do.
He reached out to her and escorted her out of the Marquis’ Mansion.
As both of them walked towards the wide-open iron gate, Cherryl saw the Marquis and the Marchioness, the butler, and the rest of the servants.
Natasha still looked displeased after Cherryl had robbed her of her jewels under the pretext of dowry.
The Marquis of Milose approached the two.
“You’re going to be with the Archduke now, Cherryl. Don’t ever forget you’re still a Milrose even if you’re in the North.”
“…….”
“Behave yourself. Do you understand? Take care and see you at the wedding.”
It was a useless sermon purposefully aimed at Cade.
“I think today’s conversation was longer than the conversation I had with my father all my life.” Cherryl smiled. “I’ll cherish them deeply. I will never forget everything he had done for me.”
Fatherly love had never existed between them.
She would never forgive the Marquis for marrying her lowlife of a stepmother who tried to sell her to perverted grandfathers.
She swallowed hard.
Then, she turned her back and headed for their vehicle.
Cherryl saw a large, black carriage with multiple seats waiting in front of the gate.
It wasn’t the Marquis’ carriage that Cherryl was used to riding.
Five carriages followed the massive one and it almost felt like they were a tank unit planning to conquer the North.
Cherryl glanced up at Cade and expressed her interest.
“It’s my first time seeing this type of carriage.”
Cade opened the carriage door with nonchalance.
“I bought it.”
“Oh.”
The carriage’s threshold was as high as Cherryl’s waist so she hesitated because she couldn’t climb it.
Cade noticed that immediately and approached her.
Soon, his solid arm picked her up easily and ushered her inside.
The masculine scent of his physique from that quick contact was thick and fragrant.
He smelled good and it doesn’t even feel like he was wearing perfume.
With a groan, Cherryl leaned against the leather seat.
When she finally settled down, Cade sat beside her and closed the door.
Soon, the wheels of the carriage rolled and their bodies shook from its movement.
The Marquis’ Mansion, where she had lived a quarter of her life in peace, drifted away from her vision.
She had a lot of memories of this familiar border where she had spent twenty years of her life.
When she passed by the orchard she and her late mother used to visit, Cherryl smiled bitterly.
Her past moments seemed drearier from such gloomy recollections.
Cade’s broad shoulder kept brushing past her as they sat side by side in a cramped place.
She moved her trembling body slightly to the side, creating a little distance from the man’s overwhelming presence beside her.
Would it have been better if they sat face to face?
Since this carriage was rather exceptional, a shock-resistant cushion was placed in the cabinet in front of their seats.
That was the reason why this was the only place to sit.
She couldn’t believe she had to spend a few days alone with him in this narrow space.
Just imagining it made her feel nervous and awkward.
Cherryl rolled her blue eyes and peeped at Cade’s side profile.
His jawline was sharply angled as a well-crafted sculpture.
His eyes, which she couldn’t quite read, were slightly downcast as he stared at what was in front of them.
Cherryl couldn’t stand the awkward silence and spoke first.
“The carriage is very nice. Hahahaha.”
Even after she said it, she just felt sorry for herself.
Out of all the opening statements to use in an awkward atmosphere, why did she have to pick the most cliche-sounding ones?
She might as well have added, ‘The weather is nice, too.’
Cade looked at her with a mysterious smile on his lips.
Embarrassed, Cherryl hurriedly elaborated her statement to fill up the silence.
“I’ve never ridden such a good carriage before. Father only uses his fanciest carriage at home during long-distance travels. I don’t go out far, so I only rode small ones.”
“I’m glad you like it. I purchased this carriage before visiting the Marquis’ home.”
“Oh, I expected you to buy it from Hindel.”
“It will take ten days for us to arrive at Carlsvik without a break, so I want to take you home in comfort.”
